Just for that, Mr. Supposedly Vice President, Here is a screenshot of a cool game that just released called penumbear.... Hehe.
Well I guess I misunderstood when you used the term "readers." I thought you meant the people of the TA community. There's a general buzz with the release of RR3, so you created the article to get some of that traffic here. It's not that people want to read your content, it's more about having it pop up so when "Joe" googles for an RR3 review he will see a link to TA. So it's essentially "selling out," creating a review on a free game which your openly against, and not because the community here on TA wanted it, but because you're just looking to hop on the RR3 bandwagon. I'll be honest, when I first came upon TA, I saw the rating system, fairly well written articles and I was under the impression you guys were trying to be serious. However, after reading into the articles, it became apparent I was wrong. I do find it odd how a game discovery site decided to use an arbitrary scoring system. I mean what exactly are you guys scoring here if the main goal is just to say, "hey, this is cool, check it out." Are you scoring how cool those 10 minutes were? Not to mention the word review in the titles here. I guess that's thrown around very loosely these days though. The scoring system and the writing style is kind of like "well we are kind of serious but not really, enjoy. 4.5 Stars cause I just ate yummy ice cream."
No, it is plenty transparent. You guys do a great job on that front page, always liked your tone. I don't always agree with your reviews or ratings, but that's your opinions so i don't give a damn. For the most part your reviews are pretty solid, ratings aside.
Specifically referring to people who were going totally off the handle, attacking EA, me, my staff, the integrity of TouchArcade, and basically anything else that got caught in the crossfire of their hatred for Free to Play without stopping to take a breath and realize that the entire purpose of these soft launches is to tweak and tune things, not to do QA and gather community feedback. They've already done that long before the binary was ever even submitted to Apple for approval. That's actually one of the massive benefits of being a part of EA for Firemonkeys, they instantly gain access to that unfathomably massive support staff, testing, and QA departments they have for game launches. But, logic and reason was quickly abandoned for hatred and other raw emotion. It was weird. I'm glad it's (almost) over.
Hey Connector, noticed your photo of penumbear. lol Man you and that hdmi setup will never part ways. So what are your thoughts on that game? @ Eli, I def understand where you're coming from with that. Maybe just think a little before you make open statements like that in a thread like this. Also, appreciate you allowing our little bickering session to go on.
Well I for one really enjoy this game - nothing comes close to it on the store (racing game I mean). I just went back to coding when the timer came up. Still feels weird to have it implemented that way but I doubt they'd make more money with a 10$ sale price for a no wait version in the current market.. just look at how few premium games are in the top grossing. Sadly it's almost as if they had no choice to aim for something like this.
Got it and love it. That and Crazy Bill are my favs this week. Anyway I get your not to subtle hint *puts tie on, dusts off HDMI adapter and heads into the lounge room
Hello, I just got this game. Everything is a lot better than real racing 2. I can finally say it feels like I'm driving and not flying some hovering car. Keep up the great work. I hope the only updates will be of bugs and crashes if any are found. Please do not make updates based on player complaints because this game seems perfect as is... Hope to see multiplayer soon. By the way, time shift seems like a new name to call ai players with just our names hovering over it. None of those time shifted players drive as if they are real players. Why name computer ai time shifted? Thank you, Scary Guns
WOOOT!!!!!!! Just had two amazing races that we holding me back. I have now finished the Pure Stock section, 100%!!!!! I did those last two races in my best racing abilities yet! I'll post screens later. It's too bad that we can't watch a replay. It'd be amazing.
Even though I despise freemium, I simply had to try this controversial game for myself, if only for the graphics alone. The graphics are pretty spectacular, though I don't know if it's my screen per-se, but everything has sort of a grainy look to it. It's weird. I'm not digging the music, and the crashing sounds are terrible. So far, the wait times haven't been too bad, but I'm still stuck in the first set of races because I don't have enough money to buy any other car. My biggest problem with the game is the drag races. The green light seems to go off randomly, making it impossible to get the timing right and forcing you to waste more time, money, and or gold in order to win. I would recommend avoiding them if you can. Do turn off the brake assist from High. On High, it brakes so much that you actually lose time. You will definitely need to learn to brake and hug the corners. You will also have to get used to the oversensitive drifting The braking could definitely cost you races. Do not be afraid to take shortcuts on some corners to win. The impact of moving over grass is surprisingly small provided not all four wheels are going over it. There was a race that I found impossible to win until I discovered that I could cut across a particularly nasty 90 degree turn by simply going off the track. I'm finding the TSM system to be annoying, as you don't know whether or not you'll be racing against a superdriver or a newb, forcing countless restarts and wasted resources until you get a race you can win. The game somehow manages to be both amazing and amazingly frustrating at the same time. I agree with everyone else that if they took out the freemium and added in the real-time multiplayer this would be the best simulation racing game on the platform. The actual racing is definitely the best of the series, but everything surrounding it is highly questionable. However, I would be lying if I said that I'm not having fun
Because the AI is limited to our times. It's odd. It's not quite multiplayer and its not quite single player. It's like foreplay
By the power invested in me as the President of the Dead Trigger Defense Squad, I proclaim the hatez is now over. Actually, I thought yesterday was going to be a nightmare on this thread, and was happy that it was so civilized and so funny at times. Never believed that I would be laughing my head off, instead of witnessing the holiest of flamewars. So I congratulate everyone, Eli, mods, TA users, the world, and of course, my 25 foot hdmi cable. Good job, on a job well done! Signed, Connector President of the Dead Trigger Defense Squad
Coolness, I will look into Crazy Bill. Do you ever participate in Toucharcade's game of the week? http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=180060 For everyone, RR3 is in the running this week, so if it is your favorite release this week, make sure you nominate it right now.
Maybe it's just me, but I haven't ever had a huge issue with timer or energy based games, in fact I would usually say they recharge much faster than I can even play them, maybe it's because I rotate 20-30 even 40 games at a time, that I can't realistically spend the large amount of time even timer based games let you play. Once I hit the timer or energy wall, I just use that as the time for me to swap to a new game. I have so many that encouraging me to playa different one doesnt bother me personally. I couldn't See myself playing an ios racing game for much longer than RR3 allows anyways. Even without the limits I would still be playing it at a really similar rate.
