Universal Real Racing 3 by Electronic Arts

  1. Bugatti is $1,650,000. Divided by $2000 is 825 races. Let's say 10 races an hour.

82.5 hours times $10 (approx minimum wage)

$825 in real dollars or 82.5 hours of grinding.

And this doesn't count repairs, servicing, or wait timer cheats.

in response to the article link posted:

That's pretty much only applicable to the serious sim racing gamers that want to do everything the game has to offer. Casuals will probably delete this once they see that first wait timer and realize they could go play something else and free up the 1.8GB this game needs.

Add to that, casuals will need 2.6GB of free space (download size + install size) to get the download started and the patience to even finish the download. I think that's going to be a bigger wall than anyone thus far has predicted to this game actually getting the casuals to pony up the money for all the IAP that the more serious gamers here have shown they pretty much aren't willing to spend on this game.

Look at the charts under top Racing games (for free). Of the top 25, the download size on most are under 50mb. CSR is 142MB and would be the largest but the lite version of Need For Speed Hot Pursuit clocks in at 229MB so it knocks CSR (which is more popular) off the largest download size racer of the top 25 free racing games.

716MB is huge compared what the causal racers are getting, but then that 2.6GB of free space needed to get the download started will force many to give up not being able to free enough space for it. Then again, maybe casuals have tons of free space because they don't get games that often... which, then again could mean the entire release of RR3 passes them by since they don't follow this scene. Forget the fact this is a Sim and racing sim's aren't very popular amongst casual gamers.

Oh yeah there's that blip on the charts of RR GTi. It is small, but I think that's in reaction to the games getting pulled and people realizing they needed to download and back them up. I wonder if it'll be there next week?

No. I've logged 20 hours on this game now, I have 14 cars with162 upgrades. I'm level 52 and most 3 lap races pay about 8,000-10,000. With a full group of Gamecenter friends its always at least twice that, sometimes upwards of 40,000. I'm not sure if the payout keeps going up with your level, or how it works, but it seems like purchasing any car seems attainable, all of them....idk.

I do know I have been loving this game. It's awesome. The whole game is essentially a grind, but it always feels rewarding to me. I constantly feel like im getting better. I think it's fun, flame me for it if you want. I'm enjoying the devil's offering, I know.

Best ZERO dollars ive ever spent. I think Alacourse had the right idea with IAP though. If they offered some type of mechanic pack, reduce timers and maybe even reduced upgrade cost, it would be an instant purchase. As they are now, I would rather just grind for what they are offering.

  7. Good observations, and you are right, there is alot to like about the game minus a couple of things. Now that I have multiple cars from about 3 hours of play, the game has opened up with the next circuit, and not really having to worry about the wait timers.

And you have a point about it being a freemium. It does have a lot of bang for the buck. Had this been a new line of racing game other than Real Racing, I think there would have been a lot more positive feedback on the content, graphics, and driving, which are outstanding.

I kind of think instead of the wait timer thing and huge inapps, they should have just made the first 2 circuits free, start everyone off with 3 cars, and made it 99 cents to purchase each additional circuit. And maybe some extra for some exotic cars or paints.

There is a lot to like about the game, but with disk space a commodity at 2 gb, don't know how successful this business model will be. But nonetheless, everyone can try and I encourage everryone to give it a shot, cause there really is some great driving and graphics in here.

Completely wrong. I've put in about 10 hours in this game and I have 5 fully upgraded cars, $600+ in the bank. So plz come again!

Babies will keep on crying and creating fake facts while true gamers will keep on playing. Period.

Now I got two posts... WHAT!!!!!

This has to be a EA or firemonkey worker

  10. So one of those cars is a Bulgatti??? No way you can get a Bulgatti in 10 hours unless you are hacking the game. You say you got $600 in the bank, but do you mean $600,000? If you have $600 then, buying a Bulgatti which is over one million dollars will be hard to do.

Sob sob, we are crying, cause you call us names.

    Sob sob...

Two post criticising all of us must make you very proud, Mr. True Gamer. Carry on.

I'm saving for the Bugatti now with 635k in the bank plus the five cars I already have. My point is, if you complain less and actually play the game and become a better driver finishing races in 1st place, you get a whole lot of money per races. Some races have paid me over 10k. Also when u complete 25% and 50% of a series, you get anywhere from 20 to 40k. I'll have a Bugatti before this week is over and I'll b sure to show you the screen.

    Thanks

    Defred shame on you ;)

  15. Well, now that you are not just calling people names and seem more rational, I will treat your remarks objectively. Let's just use a sum of $7000 for each race.

That is 235 races / 10 races per hour, so 23.5 hours. You have put 10 hours in the game and are 1/3 there.

So maybe 16 hours more, so total playing time 26 hours for your Bulgatti. Or anything close.

Even though this doesn't include money lost to servicing etc, I can go with this number.

And as you mentioned, since you are a true gamer, 26 hours is not much to get that car. I can believe this scenario.

But please, stop the name calling bit, gonna make me cry, hehe, just kidding!

And remember, I love you too. :)

Not really sure it will take me that long, but even if it does the game is actually very fun and I really enjoy the way the cars perform on the road as opposed to RR2 where cars were driving on ice. So yeah I'm very happy with this game and it can only get better. If it takes me 30+ hours to get the Bugatti, that's fine by me, cause none of it feel redundant or grinding.

Freemium is the business model that is meant to exploit the impatient ones as well as those who rather pay to get to the top of the leader boards as opposed to getting any real skill in order to get there. And if these people are willing to spend $100 dollars to get something NOW that they could have easily gotten in 10 hours of playing, how can anyone fault a developer for targeting said audience?

It's nothing personal really. Just business!

Btw, I liv u all 2. No disrespect was meant earlier.

  17. Yuppers, good read, and good to see you are enjoying the game. Would love to get the Bugatti myself, it is one of my favorite cars.

I do agree with you that Real Racing 3 does get better the more one plays and I am beginning to enjoy it much more that I get 3 cars and money for a fourth.

Good luck, and if you ever get the Bugatti, please do post a screenshot of it, I will be jealous. :)

question to Connector...how are you making RR3 full-screen on the TV? I got an iPad Mini, and the HDMI adapter...but it's side letterboxed :(

Are you just stretching it from the TV? Or is it supported by the game in some sort of settings?

Asking cause I am curious, has any clock adjusting been involved?
I am at level 48 with $290,000 and 161 gold. I have 37 hrs Played of which 16 hrs are racing.
I have 14 cars, only 1 is fully upgraded, and only 3 others have 1 or 2 upgrades each.

I absolutely love the racing, but the timers Kill this game for me. I currently have 2 cars being fully serviced, one for 22hrs the other for 18 hrs. I know that they don't have to get a full service at once, but even just servicing the engine is 11 hrs and 10 hrs respectively,
I realize I have other cars to race, but what I don't like is the fact that I can't race those two cars for effectively a full day.
I am conflicted with this game, On the track it is fantastic, which I love, but off track waiting For the lengths that they currently are is just wrong.
