I suspect the game uses loads of RAM for the graphics and 16 cars, so clearing a big space for it to play smooths it out. Prob run faster on the upcoming iPhone 5, but an option to scale back the graphics and have smoother play would be nice. No idea if the feasibility or level of effort to do this in the RR2 game engine. It seems to run fine if given the memory as is though.
I'm not surprised other people who have experienced frame rate issues have spoken up after it was first mentioned, however I was talking about your particular issues sounding highly unusual. I've never heard reports of whole replays playing at 12fps - this is highly unusual in my opinion and clearly shouldn't be happening. When you refer to choppy frame rates in the intro cutscene - are you referring to the pre-rendered intro that appears when you first launch the game? Sorry if you mean something else, but this is simple video playback and you really shouldn't be seeing any performance issues. Normally I'd recommend that you close all running Apps and reboot your device, but since you've already done this the next step I'd take is a delete and fresh install (followed by a reboot). If you're using Game Center, your progress will be backed up. To check your backup data, on the main menu select Pitlane>Profile>Player Settings and you'll find the Restore Save option. Here you'll see your last 5 automatically uploaded saves, you can manually upload your current save data here if you wish. Once you reinstall the game you should be able to restore your save data as long as you're signed in to Game Center. Spot on, but this is also good advice for any game really. For best performance, close any other Apps that are running in the background. Note: For further tech support, it would be great if you could visit our support site. While I'm happy to talk with our players here & on other forums, for the benefit of the majority of our players I prefer to discuss issues with our game in the one main location so that we can easily track how many people are reporting the issues, and players can easily share solutions. Thanks!
Sorry, I meant the intro right before we race, not the pre-rendered one. Just did that and the intro and replay is a bit better. Still not 30 fps when there are a few cars on screen (or even when there's only 1 car but from dynamic angles in replay) but it's better. I noticed that you've tweaked the specular and some lighting effect. How about tweaking the lighting under the tunnel so that the car's body kit could reflect / be affected by the lights under the tunnel? At the moment, when it goes under a tunnel, the car's whole body becomes darker, which is perfect if there's no lights. But if there are lights, then the car's body should be affected, so that it becomes dark-light-dark-light-dark instead of just dark the whole time. Play Fastlane street racing and go under a tunnel to see what I mean. Yes it's an old game and is no fancy at all by today's standard, but it's still got a nice lighting effects under a tunnel.
@Firemint Sam: Can we only upload a video of time trial mode? And only once per track? I can't find the 'upload video' interface on tracks I've completed before, is it a bug? Also, I'm sure most people will be more interested in an actual race replay than timetrial replay.
No, Every Time you get a record on a track you can submit a video. The video's in my case can take up to a week to show on youtube.
Though i say that. I got a record a few times on monday and submitted about 5 videos to youtube. They are yet to appear.
I played offline today and finished telkodata showdown. Even got gold medals on all races. When I started the game again later on, the progress was lost. I went to saved games in Profile but they were all for few days back. Shouldn't the progress be saved locally? Its crap that connectivity is required to save the progress in this game.
Actually I noticed that when offline the username becomes "Guest", so anything I do as "Guest" becomes invalid when I start the game and it connects to Game Centre. I don't understand rationale behind this design. Why can't my profile be permanent and then sync with game centre/cloud cell later?
I played online and after I switched offline something funny happened. I had to choose between Guest and my profile. After I chose it, I played a race then a couple of hours later I went back online and my progress was lost even though I loaded what it was the user with the same name as my GC id. Is it normal????
Fast Five has real reflections on the cars' body. Finally another racing game with real reflections beside Ridge Racer. C'mon Firemint, give us an update with real reflections on the car's body!
It's been 2 weeks since I clicked upload video to Youtube and my 2 videos are still not yet up on Youtube. My internet is ADSL2+ and always on. What gives? Now I've tried uploading 2 more videos but all it says is 'it has been added to the queue'. WHERE IS THE QUEUE??? Can't I just cancel it? Real Racing 2 really is a buggy release rushed to the market just to catch the holiday season. The no-class multiplayer is silly and how it doesn't save any progress without any internet connection is stupid. Firemint_Sam, any answer?
I just played the first Real Racing for a little while and now RR2 feels unplayable..I couldn't even finish a single race I just gave up
I personally found this better in almost every way from real racing one. My biggest gripe with the first was what I felt was a rubberband AI. If I made one slip up, put half a wheel off the track, I would go from first place to fifth in a matter of seconds. I honestly think real racing 2 is more forgiving for little mistakes, and tougher on harder one ( like slamming into walls). Also, I think the tracks have been stretched in certain ways that make them much easier to see and time your brakes. Like monte clair (or whatever its called), in the first game, I could never finish first on this track because there were two spots I would always go spinning of the track, and if I tried braking early enough, all other cars would pass me. The same track in 2 feels much easier to navigate, still challenging, but I am never spinning of by lap 3 due to a memory/learning curve. This is how I feel it should be. Also the 16 car races are incredible, but I love the variety of vs and elimination races (which are both excellent for farming money). Honestly, I do not see this game ever leaving my device. Edit: I have heard people saying this game is less forgiving, and it should be noted I am playing on easy and normal with full steering correction but only very little braking assistance.
I revisited this game lately since I now have an ipod touch 4g and the visual boost is stunning, really great looking game... But the framerate is the same if not slightly worse then it was on my 2g touch using older visuals, I was expecting the game to improve in that area too but it only does if I do single car hot laps, 16 car grids really does choke down in areas and i'd personally prefer it at 12 cars if it means keeping the game at a more solid frame rate. And yes I know about rebooting and fresh installs, done all that I still prefer RR1 over 2 by a long shot but the game does look really good on a modern device.
I too just revisited this game and does anyone know how to hide the name and numbers of the other 15 cars? I remember there was a toggle in the settings to hide this but I can no longer find it. And instead there's now a 'vibrate' toggle which I don't remember having. Maybe it's false memory but if anyone knows please enlighten me. I prefer keeping the heads up display (speed, position, map, etc) but without the silly names on top of other cars. +1
I can't use Game Center because I have a developer account. The game calls me 'guest' and asks me to log in with my Cloudcell or Game Center account. Where can I log in? I can't find a corresponding panel anywhere!
