Depends on who you believe. I read some reviews saying the framerate isn't stable, so it's butter smooth when there's not much on screen but a lil bit laggy when there's a lot happening like cars, environment animation, etc. Of course, different people have different sensitivity. I often hear people say it's perfectly smooth yet when I test it myself I can notice it's in fact not that smooth.
On iPhone 4, the game is perfectly smooth until some dust or smoke is on the screen. It can be seen in replays mostly. Other than that everything is perfect.
Thats exactly what im scared of cuz many say its amazing smooth but others say it does have its framerate issues on a 3rd gen but then again hows is this compatible with all devices?
Not everyone has the latest racing games, so some of them probably compare Real Racing 2 with older racing games on the Appstore like NFS: Shift or they could even compare it with racing games on their previous Nokia / Samsung handsets (most I saw are choppy). Compared to those, RR2 is without doubt amazing smooth.
All I can assure you is that it's not as smooth as Real Racing 1. Yes it has better graphics, scenery, tracks and controls, but not framerate. As soon as some smoke appear, the framerate drops significantly, even more so during replay. And this happens even on an iPhone 4! Granted, faster cars feel a bit faster, but it doesn't change the fact that the framerate isn't as smooth as RR1. I don't have NFS: HP so I can't compare the two, but on my iPhone 4 it's not as smooth as Fastlane, NFS:U or Snail Mail, it's comparable to NFS: Shift performance on iPhone 4, but much much better than old titles like Ferrari GT. @Firemint: I do hope you guys do some optimisation tweaking for the next update so the framerate could be butter smooth like RR1 again Also, the crane (or whatever lines they are above the cars) look really pixelated and jaggy during replay. Maybe you could tweak it or even just hide it as they're so up close and ugly. The cars and scenery are amazing, but it unfortunately makes the road looks squarish..
Wow...after this went on sale I was ready to pull the trigger. But after reading some of the comments, especially from don_k, I think I'm gonna hold off for now. So it's really not THAT big of an improvement from the first one?
I love this game. I really only wished they would add a few more performance parts and maybe few more cars
so what's your plans for the future, Firemint??? DLCs would be nice waiting for RR3: a sip of Ferrari F458, a tap of Lamborghini Murcielago, a ounce of Porsche 911.... would be exquisite, also with some famous REAL tracks... Hope the smoothness of the FPS is better on this update because even on a last gen, it feels NOT smooth...
Since it dropped to £3 i thought i'd pick this up .... ever since day 1 of its release i felt on the fence about it. Wish i'd listened to my instincts and avoided ... just feels totally false in the handling and the speed penalties for slight over cooking a corner are ridiculous. Shame really
i picked this up at 9.99, and really regret it. the difficulty is just insane in this game. Easy difficulty usually results in you blowing out everyone by at least 20 seconds. However, medium is not really a medium difficulty, its more like hard. you basically have to have a perfect run in order to get into first place. Hard difficulty is like extreme difficulty. theres is no real "medium" difficulty.
It's really not that hard if you play it like a sim and not an arcade racer. I couldn't place in the first event on medium at first but when I actually used the brake button and slowed down for turns, it got a lot easier.
Any improvements in frame rate? I would really like something to toggle motion blur and anti-aliasing. I find blur to be useless and would give that up for anti-aliasing, since 3rd gens don't have a retina display, everything looks grainy. Can't have both due to frame rate issues. With anti-aliasing, it would look just like Retina display graphics.
