Oh, well, some may say running without gas or brake is bad, but I think it never hurts to apply a little brake before entering a corner and then gas, that make me faster. YMMV though. Back when some serious sims turns your car into a lazy susan by applying gas in the middle of a turn, I think racing games with modern cars are more forgivable in this regard, and I don't think I can apply gas and brake at the same time in RR2 (bummer!).
Retina on an iPad? You're kidding right? That would require 2560 by 1900 resolution. Not only would it cost a lot, most laptops wouldn't be able to run this game at that resolution smoothly. The most I see Apple is doing is 1280 by 800, and even for that they're gonna need a major CPU bump (1 GHz Dual Core? + a newer graphics chip with at least 4X the power.) and either of those would kill Apple's 10 hour battery claims.
Olliewollie > Gabrien Well, it really depends on the turn. Obviously the goal is to come out of the turn at the fastest speed possible, so depending on how sharp the turn is and how fast you're entering the turn, you're definitely gonna have to adjust depending on the situation.
Has anyone noticed that it is impossible to draft in this game? (Drafting is using the airflow behind another racer's car to reduce the drag on your own and go faster. This is a real effect that real race car drivers use all the time.) Whenever I see another car pulling ahead I get behind it to hopefully pull closer but it doesn't work. That's pretty annoying since even arcade games like Need for Speed have it. Not drifting, drafting.
for what it's worth, and it's probably not much, there are two of you in this 50 page thread that wish this game were RR1+. i, for one, enjoy this considerably more than its predecessor, which i agree, was brilliant. you really should slow down a little bit with the madness and play for a while. i think once you get the first game out of your head, you'll change your perspective. let this game stand by itself and stop comparing it to something it isn't.
i definitely think drafting should be featured in this game. it's been the cornerstone of my racing gameplay for a long time now and it is sorely missed in this game. so it goes...
By the way, after playing the game long enough to get to even slightly better car models, I found there is a much greater sense of speed if you actually spend the time to get to them. This is good pacing...if every car simply felt like it was the same (really fast) speed, then you'd get bored pretty quickly, no? And re: some peoples' opinions...again I am sure that Firemint realizes they cannot please everyone and personally I am glad they went for a more realistic, sim-like feel this time out. (But then again maybe I'm just one of the mindless, unwashed masses who loves the taste of garbage, eh? ) Real Racing 2 is a masterpiece, and with a little more fine-tuning with the multiplayer it could be not only the best racing game for iOS, but the best real-time multiplayer game for iOS.
I actually somewhat noticed this too and just wondered if I needed to get up to the faster cars to be able to draft more effectively.
Well, timing is everything. Sometime, I get aggressive, and I think I know the corner, I gas all the way into and brake a little right before the apex and get away clean.
Very good point. Though Shift completely overdoes drafting (and is a horrible POS in general), at least it has that feature.
There's definitely a heavy PGR3 influence in the lighting, palette, and even the scenery of several tracks. Mayapan Beach, with a 100bp or so vehicle and no assists, completely dwarfs any portable racing experience I've had, although I've never played Grand Turismo. A few of 10 unlocked so far are just as as good, and that's just two-thirds of the total. edit: Some resized snapshots of course reminding me of Japan course in PGR3 (4th-gen iPT): The tree pattern on the snow-capped mountain looked like a T-Rex from farther away (before the tunnel):
If you Ipad users read through the post you will notice that Firemint has mentioned what is going to happen on the Ipad. If i can remember correctly they said that they are working on Ipad support but it would be a while away.
