He's not using the cracked version. My version does the same thing on iOS 4.2, iPod touch 4G. (no sounds after going out of the game and back)

Don't see what all the commotion about lag is about...Of course with 10X better graphics you will have much lower frame rate, but the frame rate is smooth and definitely playable (NEVER lags) and stays around 30 FPS. Real Racing 1 ran at 60 FPS but lacked all of the detail that this game has. Anything above 25 FPS is playable and over 25 is smooth (I'm a PC gamer, I do game benchmarks and recordings all the time, I would know.) and this game has never dropped below 30 FPS for me.

My impressions on a 3rd generation iPod touch 32GB:

    • Graphics are amazing!
    • Physics are still rather arcadey but better than Real Racing 1
    • The AI aren't aggressive like they were in RR1. They don't try to make you fail. they either just stay behind you are are so far ahead that you can't do anything.
    • Gameplay difficulty levels are flawed. In Medium I get 1st place in every race but in hard I find it impossible to get better than 5th place out of 16 even with performance upgrades, etc.
    • Car selection is a bit limited
    • Multiplayer dsn't lag for me...You guys need better internet

  4. I was never able to set the controls in RR1 to my liking, but even the default controls on RR2 are perfect! Amazing game, best $10 I've ever spent on an app. :)

Just came back to this thread, read through most of it, and well, I probably shouldn't feel amazed cause I know better, but...I still do. I guess most people really will happily lap up any garbage so long as it looks pretty.

@Firemint: Shame on you for taking the original game and turning it into this. Have fun spending all the cash though.

Just because you don't like a game doesn't mean other people can't like it. Your opinion is worth just as much as mine or anyone else's and this game is better than RR1 in every respect except frame rate (IMO).

You might think otherwise but that doesn't mean you have to write something on every other page trying to convince people that this game is garbage.

I find this to be the best driving game in the AppStore. This can be used to represent iOS in a mobile gaming market. Very comparable to Gran Turismo for PSP.

I'm sorry Real Racing 2 isn't what you were expecting, please feel free to suggest any improvements that you think we should make over at our support site. If you've already suggested changes - sorry, I must have missed them - as you can imagine we're extremely busy right now! But I'll get to everything eventually.

I gotta say, minor bugs aside I'm really loving this game. I'm glad i bought this before all the others that came out recently. Once multiplayer get's fixed defiantly 5 stars. Are you guys going to stick to this game? I really hate it when company's have a near perfect game and instead of making DLC's they just make an entirely new one with a couple add-ons and charge another 7-10 bucks for it.

And I'll defiantly post some ideas, keep up the good work.

So I restarted my device today and Real Racing 2 does not lag at all now. Previously, I would lag about every 10 races or so, but now there is no lag at all (not speaking for multiplayer though, obviously). I'm running a 2nd gen, too, so more hats off to Firemint.

Okay, thoughts after 3 hours of racing:

    1. Drifting always slows you down! I recall back to the very early days of RR1 (yes, before 3GS was even debuted!) I get advices from other forum pals that drifting is bad in RR. Tried and proved. I dunno all of a sudden that drifting was good.

    2. No, drifting does not automatically brings a car behind you to the front. I was in a quick race catching up with the thrid and the fifth guy was way out of the HUD scope. I drifted (or better skidded), I corrected it and just that the third guy was much further away -- much to my dismay, but nothing popped up from behind.

    3. Sense of speed does not always equal to frame rate (note there is something call frame skipping), but it is really lacking here. Like many here, I am a driver too and I know how things look at certain speed. The game is smooth, I have to admit, but if RR2 takes away the sense of speed thing which many enjoy in RR1, this is not a very good thing, but not a deal breaker in my book.

    4. I don't mind "unreal" cars and thanks for the continue effort by Firemint, I can still enjoy RR1 with online racing.

    5. Bumping into other cars is some time fun, but slowing me down but not the other is not so. Please fix it.

    So much for now.

Here is a tip, when entering a corner try laying of the accelerator and not using the brakes. This takes some time to perfect but I find this fun and it can help mentain speed. You will still have to break a little at really tight corners.

What do you guys think of my tip? What do you do at corners?

But yeah, definitely what everyone should do. Good tip for newer players!

It's funny that you define this game as "garbage", guess I must eat it up then.

To me, the first RR felt chaotic and was mildly fun. It was more of an arcade experience, but not my cup of tea. I completely understand how those who loved the first have issues with the second, but I fail to see how this game is "garbage".

I guess what some people were looking for was basically more of the same. I'm glad that it's not just RR1 with a better looking coat of paint though. I'm glad to see the refinements to the feel of the car and the controls seem tighter and give me a better sense that I can actually control my car. I like that it's a challenge and I can't go in "Tokyo Drift" style and have to actually manage my speed and apex in order to hit the lines.

To each their own, but I defend the notion that this game is hardly garbage. I'm not sure why other people have had issues, but all I've been able to play is a smooth and invigorating racing game that really hits the spot and deserves the moniker of "Real Racing".

There isn't one. We believe that they are holding it back until iPad 2, possibly so they can include the retina graphics.

Well, since my suggestion would basically amount to: "scrap this version, go back and look at what made the original fun then start again," I don't think I need bother. Just a question though, if you have a minute: was this sequel really designed by the same team who made the first game?

If you like arcade game's, go play them. This is REAL racing.
