It's the same thing with other games, like BC2. I see no reviews on current but one on all. I'm in Norway so that's why there aren't many reviews.

yeah I'm on a 3GS and frankly I don't think it looks all that much better than RR1. Some anti-aliasing would help a lot I imagine. Some tracks are really quite messy looking...

But otoh I'm not all that surprised. I don't have un-reasonable expectations about whats possible on given hardware.

I find the shadows and overall track visuals are much nicer in RR2 compared to the first game, I am running the game on older hardware so the cars look a little worse but the tracks are a lot better and improved visually imo. Check out some real racing 1 replays on youtube while playing the same track on the iphone RR2.

Only the car directly in front of you will have there name on it. Then when you pass that car then the name will switch to the next car infront of you.

This is how I felt. I know to some, the original was one of the best driving experiences on the iDevice, but I always found it to be a little off and not really interesting. It looked great, but just can't put my finger into what kept me from wanting to play it.

For some reason, RR2 is an entirely different experience and whatever tweaks Firemint did to tune it worked for me. The controls just feel right to me now and I actually feel like I can get the feel of the car.

I haven't tried Multiplayer yet, so only base my opinion on Career.

Great job and probably my favorite of all the games downloaded today!

Thank you for clarifying the names above the cars.

I'm on a 3GS and yea - I could imagine graphical improvements in some spots.

That said, I can't stop playing this game! I hope for improvements as Firemint has done in the past but even so this game is a 10/10 from me.

Can you choose the limit of people you want to race with? Do you have to race with 16 people?

The actual game isn't that fun but the menus, graphics and 16 player multiplayer makes it the best racing game on the phone.

I'm still amazed at how good the graphics look. Sometimes it even looks like a PS3/360 game.

I've played a couple multiplayer games now and so far it seems like you're automatically put into a room with other people. The number of people is random though, so somtimes it'll be less than 16.

So hows the multiplayer? Thats the only thing that worried me about the game I loved the first one and the reviews are pretty positive. Defenitely will be picking this up.

The multiplayer gameplay overall is pretty good but the problem with multiplayer is that there is no stat tracking. Also before you go on multiplayer you might want to get yourself a pretty decent car because the game doesn't put you in a room based on rank. It's all random.

It's generally good however it's often unfair because people bring like a MacLaren to a Golf GTI race and obviously pwn everyone else. IMO there needs to be restrictions/classes so that everyone is racing a similar car, maybe like how in the singleplayer there are certain events where you are restricted within a certain range of HP.

Man I really need to upgrade… the difference between 3rd gen up and 2nd gen down is quite astonishing.

hehe I kept laughing at how badly I completely smoked opponents using VWs with an M3 GT2 until I was humbled by a Z4
there's a small amount of lag sometimes in multiplayer, sometimes an opponents stops or slows down for a second and then it suddenly zooms off again

Make sure you're playing with all the assists off. You don't lose so much speed when sliding/hitting things.

    @Firemint: any news on manual-shifting?

i like this game. much better then the first one. but theres 1 thing that keeps returning at all racing games on iplatform except Ridge Racer.

the reflections on cars. why can't any other game get this right? it makes the game look so much better and it adds a lot of realism to the visuals. ridge racer has it and it runs smooth as butter on my ipot touch 3g and my iphone 4. and theres the ones on windows like NFS:SHIFT. those 2 things just add so much more polish to a game. but those are just some extras.

but i am going to rate this game 5 stars good job good game! also gameplay is much better and less unreal then the first 1. and even without those 2 things i just mentioned it looks way better then any racer that i have seen on this platform.

After playing RR2 for about an hour and reading the thread, then going back to play a bit of RR1, here are my 2 cents on RR2:

If you aren't put off by the idea of a more deliberate, tactical, sim racer, then Real Racing 2 is easily the best racing game for iOS. Having read comments here, many are complaining about the sense of speed, or the lack of drifting playing a role in gaining the upper hand in the game. I will say this--when I say it's more deliberate and tactical, I don't mean it is slower and less exciting. I think it's rather less chaotic and more refined. Going back to RR1 there does seem to be a slightly enhanced sense of speed, but I think some of this may have to do with the lack of your ability to better control your car or and see what is coming down the track. In RR1, you'll find yourself having to make sudden breakneck turns more often because you don't have a mini-map showing you what's coming next, and if you've got steering assistance turned on, you won't be struggling to maintain control of your car as much. This allows you to focus more on your driving. Maybe this makes it a bit dull to some. Also, on my 4G Touch, the graphics are so good that you can see everything well and I think the nuance in the environments might make it seem a little more open, and thus your perspective doesn't alter as quickly as it would with less detailed surroundings. I hope that makes sense...not sure I'm wording that well.

Another thing I wonder about is whether everyone who is complaining about the speed is talking about the starting cars in the game, and comparing them to the higher level cars of RR1.

The lack of drifting as a viable way to take corners is what it is...you just have to adjust your strategy, brake and corner well, and realize this is not an arcade racing game. Taken on its own terms, this doesn't present a problem.

The only negative remarks I have about the game is in regard to the multiplayer. It does seem to be experiencing some issues, as perhaps the servers are overwhelmed right now, and I really was expecting some kind of buddy/match-making system, as well as hoping for more stats, but right now you are simply put into a match with random other players, although you can vote for tracks and number of laps. The multiplayer can be exciting, but frequently players will be lagging too much for you to get a real sense of your place in the race, and many people drop out, either because they lose their connection or they simply quit because they're not doing well. I also agree that some car class restrictions should be placed so as to provide for more even races.

But the campaign alone is more than enough value--it's massive, and the ability to upgrade cars that was totally lacking in RR1 adds a lot. It makes the game a lot more fun to progress through, and it's all the more addictive for that. The game looks brilliant, and having a mini-map makes a huge difference for me, and I love that addition. Excellent work by Firemint on this one, in my opinion. Again, this is now the best racer on iOS, in my opinion, by a considerable margin.

Yes, I hadn't thought of this--maybe this is part of the reason people are having trouble with the speed.
