What's the deal with iBooks? There are tons of free books but no latest titles or for that matter no paid books of any era at all. I am big on reading and have discovered that reading on iPad is actually very, very enjoyable (much against my expectations) Are the books available only in US store or something? Which brings me to my next question? Can I set up a US store account? I tried it once but it asked for Credit Card and address details which I don't have for US, ofcourse.
The iBooks store is built into the iBooks application that's the only way you can access it. I can't recommend it though it just doesn't work very well and the titles are more expensive and a lot more limited than Amazon. I'd say your better of investing in a Kindle and it would save you money in the long run as well as give you a much larger selection.
There's a free kindle app which can give me access to all eBooks on Amazon. But I find Amazon ebooks far too expensive. For example, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, I bought a paperback for about 6.67$ (legitimate copy). eBook on Amazon costs 10.46$.
And on iBooks costs even more http://itunes.apple.com/us/book/the-girl-who-kicked-hornets/id418647237?mt=11 Then there is the issue of iBooks moving your bookmarks around randomly which I've recently experienced. Really can't recommend it at all.
Oh well! Really don't understand how eBooks can be more expensive than real books. Before iPad, that was the only reason I never bought a Kindle. Ages after Kindle has come out, and ebooks are fairly popular now... it continues to remain true.
I'm waiting for the day that all college texts or any school texts for that matter are available on tablets. It would seriously cut like 10 pounds of weight outta my book bag, plus I'd imagine the environmental impacts would also be fairly significant. As for cost I'm not entirely decided on. On one hand being a digital version cuts out the price of printing, distribution, and shipping so you'd think you would save more then just a few bucks off vs. the retail copy. But sadly digital distribution seems to almost always be the same price as its real life counterpart so at this point I'm just happy to have all my books on my device. Now if they could improve their selection and have books released same day as in stores I'd be a happy camper. Still waiting on 'Damned' by Chuck Palanuik which came out last week but not available on iBooks til Tuesday.
