If by PSX, you mean Playstation 1 version. Then the Dreamcast version is superior by a landslide. The Playstation 2 version of Rayman 2 however, is roughly about the same quality as the Dreamcast version. It is a nice surprise to see a 3D platformer making its way to the iPhone/ iPod though, but I would've preferred to see the original sidescroller.
Okay, now, I'm not a big Rayman fan, but I did happen to find my old PC copy of Rayman 2 recently. So, how the Rayman 2 games differ from platform to platform? Is one more buggy than the other or something?
The console versions all differ in graphics and sound, I think. From what I remember, the Playstation 1 version of the game generally looked the worst of the bunch with an inconsistent framerate (had slowdown through out the game) and unfiltered pixalated graphics. The Nintendo 64 version looked a lot nicer than the PS1 version, but didn't have as good of a soundtrack. The Dreamcast version had had better looking graphics and sound than both the Nintendo 64 and Playstation 1 versions. I have not played it on the Playstation 2, but I'd imagine that it's not all that different from the Dreamcast game. I also have not played the PC version either... but I'm guessing that this version would also be like the Playstation 2 and Dreamcast versions but with higher resolution textures and higher resolution graphics. I'm not sure what other differences there could be. I have only ever owned the Dreamcast version. But I have briefly played the game on the N64 and PS1 before.
Oh yeah. Dreamcast is Sega's PS2 right? And I would've preferred the original as well, since that's the only one I know, but we should be glad we're gettin Rayman without the Rabbids lol. Maybe soon we'll get the sidescroller. Hopefully. If not, I'll just find a way to ISO it, and stick to PSX4iphone.
Strange. I really had expected to see Rayman 1, considering the fact that Gameloft brought it to DSiWare last year. Rayman 2 is still a great game (I own it on PC), so I can't really complain. I'm sure we will see R1 down the line eventually, especially if this one does well. Now what I'm really worried about is the quality of the port. I don't think the Gameloft Virtual Pad will cut it here, as the game was originally designed for hardware with real controls. I would be lucky if I got even halfway through the game.
i'm sooo excited! played this game for days on end and never got a chance to beat it 100%..(well 99% technically) when i was younger...maybe this will be my chance
I thought it was a bit weird that they're releasing number 2 instead of 1, but a lot of people are saying that number 2 is as good as number 1 but in 3D. Looking forward to this, next week!
They both were good but play so differently. Rayman was my first PS1 game. I loved it and when I got Rayman 2 the thought of it being in 3D kind of turned me off. Then i started playing and it just got better and better, an excellent game. One of the best PS1 games. The sequel beats the first one.
it truly is, i spent countless hours tryning to get EVERY lum before i reached the end, sadly i phailed
Yes ... you are right. I wish Naughty Dog kept the rights of the game and developed for Iphone. All actual Crashs are poor. Also the crash cart in the store. Thats worse then the original Crash Team Racing.
Sorry if this has been answered before but I really don't feel like scrolling through 10+ pages: 1) Do you know how big of a file this game will be? 2) How much do you think it will cost?
1) You can never tell but take in facots such as 3-d graphics, voice-overs (if it has any), maps and the size of them. I'm goin for around 80 megs. 2) I think Gameloft's going with the super-premium $9.99
i seriously hope it doesnt have those terrible voice-overs from the ps2 versions, i like the random babbling they do on the n64 version (Doobaladay!)
