If we're going to blame someone for this (besides the app approval process in general), it's gotta be the scumbags at Storm8. This mess would never have happened if they hadn't been caught red handed violating their customer's privacy. At least you now know what Eli thinks of the game .
I got the news today at just about 4:30 while taking my kids to get their "swine flu" shots. You can probably imagine how I felt - TERRIBLE! Luckily the TA guys were nice enough to do a write up about the issue - and I hope this will help other developers with any of these issues (that I do not understand because I'm an artist not a programmer) So yeah - its back in Apples hands yet again for round 2. Maybe if Apple gets wind of all this crap going on they'll approve it slightly faster this time. I'm really mad because the extra two weeks could have gone into improving the game, rather than being held up in line. Oh well - live and learn, nothing is ever how it seems after all. We'll keep plugging away behind the scenes of course. -Josh
Hang in there Russ and Josh, it probably feels like someone just came into your house and pissed on your kids, but in only a short space of time you will be sitting back basking in your success with one of the most successful games in the app store. There is no way the hype, marketing and general interest you have generated for this game will be damaged and your fan base will only clammer more for the games release. I for one will continue to talk-up the game in conversations, on message boards and at other opportunities to do so...the glass is very much 3/4 full and success is only a re-submittal away.
How disappointing. But I agree completely with squarezero. The fault here lies with Storm8, and as much as I hate waiting further for this to come out, these privacy violations are just the kind of things we want to see the approval process keep us away from. Apple is being a little overprotective here considering the lack of network functionality in this title, but I'm still glad Apple is forcing the issue that such code be removed.
Hi Josh and Russ, This totally sucks, but I guess there's nothing that can be done for now... Have a couple of beers on us tonight to make things a little better... The good thing is that I won't have to look at the TA website 20 times per day to see if Ravensword got approved...LOL Hang in there Phil
Totally agree. This is the one time when I'm glad of Apple's over-protectiveness (just like your parents, you're glad of them once a while, at least while you're young). I don't personally have an iPhone, but the things that Storm8 are accused of doing, they can't be allowed to get away with it. We all know service providers (at lot of them) collect personal information when they can, and then turn around to sell it (that's why you get spam and junkmail, digitally and physically). It's about time one of them get caught. Too bad they won't be hung and made example of. I'm just eagerly awaiting the class action Edit: Wait a minute, if I had read the article linked from the front page I would have known there IS a class action. Doh!
I'm using the time to get EVERYONE with ipods in my dorm hyped up about it. I have like 15 people who'll be buying the game now when you previously just mightve had me. That's 105 extra bucks, my Christmas present to the dev team! UGH APPLE YOU SUCK
Double damn! Damn the douche bags who embedded spyware into their engine and damn Apple for not being more professional about this and approving apps once the issue with the engine was resolved. Do all of these apps really need to wait in line to under go the entire process again? They are just punishing the devs and us by sticking these apps at the end of the line instead of green lighting them as soon as the issue was resolved.
The problem is that other changes could be made when submitting again. If they only checked to make sure that one issue was fixed, they could miss something else. Heh, and it wasn't spyware Unity added to their engine - as I understand it, it was approved system calls that were being used in a bad way. Basically another dev doing something they shouldn't have been doing. So I think Unity fixed it so that couldn't be taken advantage of again. Anyway, yeah, delays suck, but it's the nature of the game industry. If Apple didn't have all of these restrictions, we'd have SO many more problems with applications doing all kinds of crap to the iphone's system files and who knows what else.
damn Storm8, we must wait at least two more weeks for getting hands on it, if it even will be approved
Well...Sony did promise us 4D gaming with the PS3. Surely some of us here have PS3s, in which case we should join all of them together to unleash the power of Cell to open a rift in time and fix this unholy mess, as Sony alluded was possible. Seriously though, this just...sucks. It really, really sucks.
Not really their fault, it's those bastards at storm8. But would you really want to be spammed with text messages by random companys or wait 2 weeks. Apple is just protecting you guys Of course I'm not saying that Josh would steal phone #'s, but you never know.
I've had apps rejected for ridiculous things before, and it always gets reset back to 0 in the waiting line, no "fast line" for resubmissions. It would be cool while we wait if we could see some more artwork/screenies from the game Then we can get some fan art going here! Hang in there Josh and co! It will be worth the wait!
