That's kind of odd that you can't allocate your stat points wherever you want. Kind of takes the "role-playing" aspect away from the game.
what do you mean? Do you mean look at how much health, strength, luck and such stuff you have while playing? You can look at those things in the pause menu!
From the preview http://www.slidetoplay.com/story/ravensword-the-fallen-king-updated-hands-on-preview It's not that big a deal (other RPGs like Earthbound did that), just a bit disappointing, and I'm wondering why they did it that way.
Russ will have to give his input here - but we have discussed it before. The reason I see it was to make it easier for the non hardcore RPG player to level up without having to worry about it. Ravensword is not a hardcore RPG though to begin with - I've mentioned that before - its a hybrid between RPG and adventure game. We may consider doing something like that for the expansion pack - but lets go over the list of priorities and see what everyone wants and then we'll make a "Top Ten" list of wants.
Makes sense. I'd prefer it but honestly there are probably other things that deserve higher priority for an expansion pack. And as you said you said you don't want to screw a player because he made poor stat allocation choices during the game.
That's true. It also keep the focus on the story and the action, not the stats. I would say that that's the main difference between Ravensword and something like Dungeon Hunter, which gets get people obsessed with loot and character builds. Even a game like The Quest, which has a strong story, can turn more into a management task than a high adventure. That's not the case with Ravensword.
rememver the old RPG which i love,Final Fantasy, chrono Cross,Suikoden you cannot choose what to upgrade when you level-up and i love RPG that has deep story
so... are there a lot of secret areas and little hidden items and stuff in this game? cuz i love that sort of stuff
Yeah, easter eggz are always nice to have in a game. I love finding them in GTA games - I will just play this game like it is GTA on horseback! Can you steal/buy different horses btw?
As Josh mentioned earlier, horse riding is limited to one area (and one "quest" really) in this release. There's a posibilty that it may be expanded later. There are plenty of hidden areas and surprises, as well as side missions. Actually, thinking of Ravensword as a fantasy/heroic themed GTA is not that far off. (No cut scenes, though).
Oh, well that's a shame. Hopefully they will expand the horseriding in the future. It's going to be a great game though, definately looking forward to playing it
The good news is that there's nothing in the infrastructure of the game that would prevent the developers from adding a global horse riding component. But if you think about it, it does add significantly to the complexity of the game. A horse really need to work as a companion character to be effective. It needs it's own health, it needs to be able to attack to protect itself. The possibility of combat suggests that horse armor should be available, and so on. It's easy to understand while the devs held off on it for (hopefully) the expansion pack.
No, not the horse armor, nnnnnoooo!!!!! Nobody should ever speak of the horse armor, never... unless it's free
This is very much the reason that I kept this stuff simple. I wanted it to be a more immersive experience, and less about fussing with numbers. One thing I've been bothered by with games like Fallout3 and Oblivion is that it really doesn't end up mattering all that much what your selections are... the game has to be designed so you can't paint yourself into a corner with bad choices. I'm thinking about ways to get around these problems though. Maybe an expert mode where you CAN ruin your character, and even have to start over when you die. I think a small percentage of players would really be into that. Hopefully I can incorporate it into the design.
I played dungeon hunter 1 time for about 1 hour and really liked it. I never played it again and don't know why. I think i will play this alot more tho.
