When to announce a game is a tricky thing in the iPhone platform. The first post on this thread dates back to August 11. If everything goes according to plan, there's a good chance that the game will be available in the App Store by the middle of November -- that's about three months since the first announcement. That would be considered lightning fast in the console and PC world, where games are sometimes previewed years before they make it to the shelves. In the iPhone market, where you have emotionally challenged individuals who have conniptions when they can't play Dungeon Hunter for a week and a half, it's a very different climate. If you announce too early, you end up souring the mood of the early adopters; wait till the last minute and the game can sink without a ripple. I think the one publisher who gets it right most often is Gameloft; with some exceptions their games seem to appear out of nowhere fully formed, build up their hype to the right level, then pop right into the App Store. The key might be to submit the game to Apple without fanfare, wait for approval and set a release date, then crank up the marketing machine a couple of weeks before the game is actually available. I don't know if that's something that unknown indies can get away with, but I think all developers and publishers should be inspired by the amount of control they maintain over the process. More to the point of this thread, though, folks need to chill. Ravensword is not some kind of vaporware: it's done, and has been done for weeks. Every day that it has been delayed has been another day of improved gameplay and interface. If only other developers had been as responsive to comments from beta testers and reviewers, we would have avoided a lot of promising-but-broken games. The Ravensword you will end up playing will not be perfect -- no game of this size can be -- but it will be a lot better than the first build Der-Kleine and I saw. And that's a really good thing.
Well, I was hoping for new screenshots and I got them, just not here... http://media.wireless.ign.com/media/037/037401/imgs_1.html Some are new, some are old...
Actually, those are all new -- notice that the character and change-view buttons are now on the left-hand side, to make space for a brand new button on the right. I have yet to see this build, but I have pretty good idea what that button is for...
Actually, I'm quite sure those screenshots are old, becaus the HUD is different from what it is now (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not on the newest beta!) The button for the inventory is at the top right and there is no clibrate button after the change to touchcontrolls! Look at the video and you'll see the difference! So, I am sorry say that all are old! Edit: @Squarezero? What? That button was there when there was still the tilt view controll! THAT WAS THE CALLIBRATE BUTTON!
If I say anything it could jinx the submission - so I can't say anything. I will say this - as soon as its submitted I will tell the world!
I'm not believing in you - unless you secretly work for Chillingo and plan on putting a halt to our submission!
This a thread about Ravensword, go spam somewhere else. Hey Josh, what are the enemies in the game? Mostly animals or more on the lines of Zelda monsters?
lets see: Orcs, Trolls, Ogres, Boars, Wolves, Bears, Goblins, Imps, Skeletons, Spiders, Zombies, Rats, Lizard Men, Sheep, Bees, Demon... trying to think if I'm missing anything...
First post on this thread, I can't believe this was announced back in August! It looks pretty damn amazing. I'm a huge fan of Oblivion, and this looks just as awesome. Great job
Ummm... Huh? Is the thread freaking out and reposting what's already been posted or something? Hmm..... Oh!!!! It's the Bat's first post on this thread. Makes sense now. Haha I'm suprised you hadn't seen it before now. You're lucky.... You haven't had to wait as long as the rest of us. Anyways! Still looking forward to it! Any news on if it's been submitted to Apple yet Josh?
Its not made for the 3GS, its called 'future proof' I personally highly support options to turn off Foliage and Shadows, dont nerf the game, just let people with the old stuff nerf it themself
