Is it not possible to state whether you expect Chillingo will be able to submit to Apple this week or not? Cheers, --Kahd
As already said It's full 3D and has amazing graphics for an iPhone game! (as you can see in the pictures and the screenshots! )
It's not open-world, but it is fully 3D. Not like Oblivion, but similar to Fable with connected 'zones'.
Not like Dexter because you don't select locations from a map or "gps". All the environments are connected to one another, so it feels like a cohesive world, but there will need to be load times between the different locations (from what I understand, not a beta tester). But yes, it's not like Gangstar. I think that's a good thing because the combined size of all the locations in Ravensword will be likely be significantly larger and more complex than something like Gangstar which, being a full 3D open world game on a phone, suffered from memory and performance limitations that resulted in (IMO) subpar design. A full 3D open-world RPG on the iPhone would be similarly dull.
Some of the areas are a lot larger than others, for instance, the forest and meadow are the largest in the game I'd say. There are actually areas in the game that are hidden, that you can only find by exploring around for awhile. We left them open, and we will add more to that later.
I wonder if I know them... do you mean places that are new maps (where there's a loading screen when you walk to them) or places hidden on the existing maps?
If you were to measure the virtual square-miles of Gangstar and compared it to Ravensword, the play area in Gangstar would probably be larger -- keep in mind that Gangstar is supposed to be explored by car, while in Ravensword you travel almost exclusively on foot. Ravensword, though, feels larger than Gangastar for three reasons 1) a lot of Gangstar is nondescript store fronts and roadways -- by comparison, Ravensword is teeming with detail. 2) Gangstar's draw distances are crap -- it's almost like you're traveling in a bubble. In contrast, Ravensword has incredible draw distances: you can see castle ruins far away, for example, and they remain in perfect view as you get closer and closer to them. It's a stunning effect, and kind of unbelievable for the platform. 3) Ravensword has depth, compared to Gangstar, especially when you're running it with full shadows. Josh is right about certain areas feeling larger than others. It should be stressed that even though there are load times between areas, it almost never feels disconnected. He's also right that they will be able to easily add more locations to the game -- it's pretty much built for that kind of flexibility. I may have said more than I'm supposed to, but it seems that beans were already been spilled a little .
are horses allowed in the cities or can i leave mine at a stable with a trust worthy tender? If you make alot of money off of ravensword will you quit your job to make games (this question for josh and russ and whoever else gets paid)
