There are both blocking and rolling, as well as spells (through an equipped rune-based system) and ranged combat using bows, crossbows, and powerful short-range guns called blunderbusses. You can use stealth to get closer to your targets and backstab them. There is also an exhaustion system that recharges when you defend, and if you are hungry health recovery is much slower. Enemies will attack you in groups and flank you, so just stepping in a spamming the attack button will likely get you killed.

As far as performance, keep in mind that the developers are still optimizing.

EDIT Just saw Josh's response. Forgot about weapon speed and upgrading.

Cool. Pretty much all my concerns about combat and performance have just been put to rest. Thanks guys. Those death animations look really nice, are they ragdoll? The walking animation looks a little weird, I thinks he gyrates his body to much instead of moving his legs.

Wait, backstabbing? If you can sneak up behind someone you can assassinate them? Neat. Will there be hidden, retractable blades replacing fingers? (kidding) Next time we see a vid could we see some first person gameplay, too? Thanks :)

looks awesome, keep up the great work, i can't wait.

Since it sounds like you have time now (the article alluded that this won't be ready for December) please don't rush it. We have waited this long, I'm sure we can wait a little longer if there were some features, optimizations you really wanted to make.

It's actually more of a stealth attack ability, with bonus damage, not "assassination" per se.

Probably about as good as iPhone 4S/iPad 2-I could be wrong though, but they have the same chips and RAM

I could be wrong, here, but I didn't really see a jarring degradation of graphics whenever I switched from my iPad 4 to my iPhone 4, and back again. Maybe the textures scale, or are just optimized depending on which device you're on. Josh, would you mind chiming in on this to verify. :)

I'm assuming the iPad Mini is supported as well.

I wonder if the UI automatically scales up to keep everything the same size on the iPad Mini or will the UI be proportionally shrunken relative to the iPad 2?

Is there any confirmed release date? I think it is Dec. 30? I'm not entirely sure...

TA wrote on the from page yesterday:

Speaking of release, Crescent Moon hoped to have Ravensword: Shadowlands out before Christmas, but with the holiday shutdown coming there's a slim chance of that happening. However, they should be submitting it in the next couple of weeks, and it will be in Apple's hands from there, so not too much longer to wait.

The game is in heavy beta-testing now. Without revealing any details, I can tell you that it's in good shape, but the game is huge, so it's taking some time to get to all the nooks and crannies.

Yea, yea, yea... Keep rubbing it in our noses that you're a beta tester

    :).

Seriously, though, even though I'm glad to be playing the game, beta testing is still work. I've had to start from the beginning several times, and our goal is to break the game, not just beat it.

I have to say -- I love hearing the VO artists reading place and character names I came up with :).

Plz dont ban me for this, and i dont want to offend anyone, or start a flame war, but is there any chance of this game becoming pirated? I REALLY don't want this game to turn into the situation MC4 is currently in. PLZ dont ban me! Just asking.

Seriously doubt it. TestFlight has decent security, and the testers are all trusted people.
