Looking at the statistics now - 159 think it should be $6.99 or above, 71 think it should be under. 57 think it should be $9.99 or above, 173 think thats too much.

Looks like you have your magic price point. $6.99.

P.S. I am one of the 57 who think it should be $9.99 or above.

Frankly, the poll really offers no useful information, since it's based on a self-selected sample. Ultimately, the question is not what people say they want to pay for the game, and what they're actually willing to pay for it (given no other choice). The jury is till out on that.

i'd be willing to bet that everyone who checked 6.99 will pay 9.99 if that's what it costs.

    I also wanted to add:

Do you want RavenSword to compete against Dungeon Hunter and Crusade of Destiny (which is crap and should be $2.99 IMO) you need to price it around $6.99 or $7.99. If you don't then make it what ever price you want it to be.

HoS was $9.99 because a game that itself for it's time was cutting edge. Now look at say Modern Combat or Dungeon Hunter. Much much better games but we are used to games like this so hence why they sell better and for longer without a price drop at $6.99

Your point is totally useless if you're not in the top 100 you're obviously not selling well for one of the best games out there period. Firement had plenty of marketing towards the game leading up to it, plenty of support and feature spots from Apple and still didn't sell all that well all things considered or else they wouldn't have dropped the price. I guess it just magically landed back in the top 100 after the price drop for different reasons and still isn't in the top 75 games at the price point it is now...

you can flame me all you want (save the sob/sweat/tears stories for your kids), but i don't buy anything in the app store that's not 0.99.

i still firmly believe that if the game you make is solid, you'll make a killing no matter what, people need to follow the walmart model more, and the sony model less.

    A whole dollar. Wow!

Nope, you better save that dollar for the necessites. That whole dollar might getcha a 6oz bag of chips or a half a loaf of bread or a McDonalds cheese burger or 2 pulls on the claw machine at the entrance to the Walmart.

Nope don't go getting frivolous and spending that whole, entire dollar in one place big spender.

    I like that introductory offer.

Lol wtf, why are prices above $9.99 even up there o_O
No serious game ever went above $9.99, and the reason I said "serious" is because it excludes the joke apps put on there because either the developers are stupid or forgot when April Fool's day is, for prices like $30 or whatever.
The game can't be above $6.99, maybe $7.99 at the very most, if it wants to stand any chance at all at competing against the other competent large-scale games being sold for $4.99-$6.99 by well-known companies. Small-time developers stick to small games and low price tags, and big companies stick to big games and large price tags, it's common sense. People hoping that customers would be sympathetic and dish out $9.99 for a $0.99 game just because the developer needs the funds are pathetic.

Price is settled at $6.99, according to the developer. Don't know why someone bumped this thread. As to your ideas about what "small time" developers should or should not do, I'm sure that talented, ambitious people don't need your advice.

some developers start off with a sale price then increase the price after the next update. I don't know if that's good for ravensword but it might get more people to buy it right away.

Considering that Morrowind costs $10 new and is (presumably) a game with perhaps 10x the content of Ravensword, and taking into account the technical achievement of getting a game like this onto an idevice, I think 4.99 is a good price point... plus you'll snag a lot more buyers who'll want to get into the expansions. The elder scrolls people will die for this game if it's any good.

Perhaps JoshCM would be willing to call it an even trade if you paid him a debt of skittles for your copy of Ravensword. I don't know about him but I find the new skittles Crazy Cores irresistable :D
