Yeah I think you are going to need to price it at $6.99 or as low as $4.99 to get people interested.

don't go to $4.99 that's way to low for a game like this. I'd say any where from $5.99 - $9.99

pricing should be the same as gamelofts titles.

people are now used to pay that amount of money for a quality game, while higher pricing would certainly put people off.
if ravensword lives up to the expectations, a lower price would be unjustified.

so seven bucks is just right imho and i would pay without hesitating while i would certainly hold myself back if the game costs 10 bucks.

Honestly, I would say no more than 6.99.

Hard to put a price on a game not knowing how long it is. If it's 8-10 hours then it should be 6.99$, but if it's 12-15 hours then it should be a little more.

People are already interested in this game. The YouTube video alone has had 30,000+ hits, and keeps a 4 1/2 star rating. They've gotten coverage in pretty much every website that covers iPhone gaming. And the game itself will likely be a category-defining one, in the same way as Real Racing redefined the racing category. So yeah, you'll get a lot of people to pay $9.99 for this. The cheapskates (and if you can afford a $200 phone/iPod and can't spend 10 bucks on a premium game, you are a cheapskate) can wait 3 months to get it.

By the way, 3 months after release, Real Racing is still #51 in the Top Grossing App list; the developers held out at $9.99 till as couple of weeks ago. 'Nuff Said.

Frankly, that's just insane. 12-15 hours? The main campaign in Oblivion didn't last that long.

Maybe he's talking about the entire game( campaign, side quests, and exploring the world)? But to help sales a 24 hour intro sale at $ 4.99 would help then a 6.99 price tag following the sale.

Ryan, who is going to buy RavenSword in those first 24 hours? The people who already know about it and are desperate to get it. Are those people willing to spend $9.99? Absolutely. Why would the developer want to charge them $5.00 less?

I understand that a lot of people here would rather spend less money on a great game. Heck, I love a great deal, too. But I also want there to be more ambitious, premium games on the App Store. If developers cannot make money on such games, they will no longer make them: it's that simple. This is particularly true for indie developers, who are risking pretty much everything to bring their talents to the iPlatform. They need a viable pricing scheme to succeed: 24 hour sales are not the answer.

Well seeing as no one knows if this is a great game and most people haven't heard of this developer, starting the game out at 10 wouldn't be the best approach. Having a sale would allow most people that have heard of this game and are on the brink of buying to give impressions and let us all know of it truly is worth a 10 price tag.

+1. Well said. I agree with the strategy of starting high and slowly chipping down the price. I have often made statements on this forum similar to your second paragraph and am in full agreement.

It's probably only a matter of time before Spungo gets here on his $.99 crusade. Lower price= more sales = more money.
    Gimme a freaking break...

Sorry, back on topic. I voted for $6.99. Seems right to me: you'll get plenty of people to buy it on opening day at that price. Won't scare people away with a $10 price on unknown IP, and there is room to adjust the price according to sales.

Am I the ONLY one here who is concerned about the expansion pack? I still say you should make this one cheaper and the expansion more expensive.

How are they going to credibly say that it's worth $9.99 if they didn't pay $9.99? And why would someone who is on the fence pay a premium price for a game? They might as well wait a few months and pick it up when it goes on sale.

It's like going to the movies: the people who are there on opening might are glad to pay full price for the ticket. The people who are on the fence will most likely wait till the film is out on the second run cinemas. Those who are mildly interested will get it from Netflix. As you get farther away from the release date, the price of admission goes down.

(I know that CDs are sometimes released at a discount, but that's from an already ridiculously over-inflated price. That's not the case with App Store games)

Not to argue, but why would they make the expansion pack more than the game itself? It's like selling the premium leather package for more money than the car.

The expansion packs should be less expensive because they will most likely be less expensive to develop. If I paid $6 for a game and saw a $10 expansion pack, there is a very small chance I'd be getting it. The game would have to be mind blowing and the expansion pack would have to offer double or more of the value. And it might piss me off too. On the other hand, if I paid $6 for a game and saw an expansion pack for a couple of bucks (1-3), there is a very good chance I'll pick it up.

Well I agree a 24 hour sale wouldn't be the answer ( cause it wouldnt be enough time for a unknown IP to reach the charts ) a 4.99 intro price would be until the game reaches the charts then they could up the price if they wanted too. While some people certainly dont mind paying more the first few days I think its proven that a lot of people get upset when a game goes on sale a few days after release as well.

Again people miss the point of the game being a unknown IP not whether the game is good or even great. People are hyped on the game here but the majority of idevice users dont frequent TA and prob will never hear of the game before release.

While good indie devs need support they also need to realize you dont become a millionaire in this biz overnight either and have to look at projects like this has future investments. A platform to showcase your talents for future titles and bigger platforms possibly. You have to establish yourself first and foremost.

I'll have to agree with Arn 4.99 is your best bet for success, Gameloft has had to really establish themselves to be successful at 6.99 and even then a few of there titles are falling off the top 100 quickly.

seems pretty overwhelming for the $6.99 price tag on this game.

As I said before the poll is going to be very biased, since this thread will draw people that are already very interested in the game and are more willing to spend more on the game then the average gamer out there. These are the more hardcore people hence the fact they are on a forums about games.

But good luck all the same.

Not completely. Last I heard from Josh, the expansion pack will give a bit more than the game.

I'd agree there. $1-3 more would be good. Definitely not double or more.
