Woozers, this is one game that I really wanted on ios for a very long time. Dotemu did a really good job with Blazing Star, so really look forward to this cause I love shmups on the ipad. Touchscreen just seems so natural for it!
I thought the port of R- Type was pretty good but that was a few years ago so hope this port is even better.

Actully I thought Blazing Star was pretty crappy but that might be because the original game wasn't any good.
Wow, why didn't you like it? The old school graphics? Or something else. I thought it was an excellent port, and especially after the update where they made it instantaneous touch, it played great.
It was just so boring, generic and stale. Maybe when it was released in the 90's it was impressive (doubt it though) but there are SO MANY shmups on iOS that are just plain better. Maybe if you have played the original (I never have) there is nostalgia involved and that's makes it somehow worth playing.
Hi everyone, We are very pleased to annouce the launch of Raiden Legacy winthin the upcoming hours! It has been a surprisingly difficult project to achieve but we are actually quite proud of the final result. As always we care a lot about your feedback so feel free to send them over on this thread or through PM. Hope you will love the game! Official trailer is just live : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnnFIc2_fk4 The DotEmu Team.
When I first played it, I thought the same thing... Until I got into the scoring mechanics of it all - then it blew me away, and has remained a favorite of mine since. --Though this is usually the case with quite a few shmups out there. Even Cave's games could be considered easy and get pretty boring if you don't take the time to learn the scoring mechanics - it adds an insane amount of entertainment, replayability, challenge and drive whenever some sort of nifty scoring system is implemented. If you didn't enjoy Blazing Star, you might not enjoy Raiden either.
Awesome...a non-bullet hell shmup collection. i really suck at bullet hells shooters; mostly because I can never remember the sometimes mind-numbingly complex scoring systems they use. Plus, I know I'm doing well if I'm not dying, which isn't always the case in bullet-hell games.
=o) Raiden uses 'Slaves' and medals - as well as grazing (yeah... bullet grazing), quick kills and chain kills in their scoring systems. It's also pretty difficult. Not bullet-hell, but definitely a HARDCORE shmup... even on medium it's pretty challenging.
Yeah, all the Raidens were pretty crazy hard after the third level or so. I sure hope this game is still on the tough side, cause that is what made the game so fun.
I just realized there is no Raiden II... Damn... I've spent a million in arcade on that and still like it more than any other shmup
It's crazy how gracefully these games have aged, and once again...what an incredible job you've done porting them over, DotEmu. Absolutely flawless and recommended wholeheartedly. What a steal for $5! Minor nitpick: The app title on our devices is "Raide...egacy". Could you kindly just leave it as "Raiden" in an upcoming update? Anyways, the title's there in the icon too. EDIT: Oh, the video settings don't seem to stick once you've killed the app. Even though the game shows "Video Filtering" as off, the game loads with them on and you have to go into settings, turn them on and off again for them to change.
Game Impressions Having no special "history" with these games, my impressions are strictly based on taking them at face value. I thought the proper thing to do might be to try them out in order, beginning with "Raiden." While being a decent enough retro style shmup, my immediate impression was that it was pretty underwhelming. This impression did not improve as I played through my first game which lasted maybe around 10 minutes. With expectations now fully deflated, I loaded up "Fighters," and SHWWAANGG! This is more like it. Intense action and memorable moments galore. "Fighters II" and "Jet" appear to be more of the same, and no bad thing. One possible issue with "Jet," though I'm not sure whether it is a glitch or part of the original soundtrack: a fairly annoying "crackling" sound comes out of the speaker with grinding regularity. Difficulty is indeed brutal. The game loves to punish you for standing still. Arcade roots and the focus on squeezing out another coin from the player are also very apparent. Interestingly, while normally when given the choice I will only play games like this on the iPad, in this instance the game works just as well if not better on the smaller screen. The retina graphics look excellent as well, given the games' age.
Super psyched about this one, gotta love the dudes at DotEmu bringing all this awesome goldies almost perfectly emulated!
