I LOVED doom resurrection, so I'm really excited for this! Just as much if not as when I didn't know if it was on or off rails.
I for one have to admit that I wasn't a fan of Doom Res, and I'm sorely disappointed that this is going to be on-rails. I'm an old-school Carmack fan and just found Doom Res to be too much hand-holding. Great looking graphics but I don't think I'll be getting this. Hopefully Id will follow Epic and licence the engine out to other devs to put out games/apps.
Not a fan of the on-rails-ness. It's like saying "aw, you iphone "gamers" can't be trusted to roam around freely. Here, we'll guide you around by the hand. Don't trip on any of the nasty mutants, now..."
After walking around Epic Citadel "Doom Resurrection 2.0" doesn't interest me. On-rails made me pass on Doom Res I don't want the game to take me anywhere, I want to walk, run, and crouch my way through, not just tap the screen. I can't tell; I'm assuming these are pre-baked images like in Doom Res.. that is not impressive after Epic Citadel; and if it isn't all Pre-baked some movability would be nice to appreciate the engine
I read your review, and I appreciate it. I'm sure it's awesome to look at and play for all the reasons you describe in your first-look piece, but I like to be able to explore, to get lost, to have to find my way. It's an element of realism that rails takes away. Given the level of exploration already possible in Epic Citadel, I am hopeful that that game will not be on rails. I understand that there was no where else to go -- of course there wasn't; why would there be if it's on rails? My point is that without other places to explore it's less fun for me. So, while the game is no doubt going to be good, and fun, I just wish it gave me the extra dimension of feeling that I have more control over my destiny. It keeps the game feeling new for longer. Hell, I break out Epic Citadel now and then just to explore, and there aren't even any enemies! This post is not at all a gripe-fest. I'll probably check this game out and like it for what it is. I just wish... for all that I want to come true! Then my life would be complete. Lol.
I think all Carmack set out to do was make a great looking fun 99¢ game, and he succeeded. If you want the full RAGE experience, buy RAGE when it comes out next year... For $60.
This As much as I'd like to play the full rage on my iphone, It's just not gonna happen overnight like this. I also think that a lot of people are forgetting that this will be 99 CENTS. This looks like a blast for that price.
$1.99 for the best looking on-rails shooter in the app store, with gameplay designed by ID, a company who knows the definition of fun... Sold!
I think so. John Carmack said that it even runs well on an original iPhone. Obviously the graphics will be significantly toned down, but 2G devices will probably be supported.
Yeah the 99¢*price is for the "standard definition" version of the game for older devices, and the $1.99 price is for the "high definition" version which is targeted at the iPad, 4th gen iPod touch and iPhone 4.
Can someone give me an example of another rail shooter on the app store? I want to get a feel for this. Not paying 6.99 for doom..
