Interestingly, did you know that England only started sending their convicts and whores to Australia once America was full?

Not trying to antagonise - just sharing a fact I read recently that the earlier destination for our undesirables was the American Colonies.

Yes, that is so true. But, Australia also took Irish rebels who, like the Americans, rebelled against the crown. So Australia was contaminated with convicts, whores, and settled by Irish patriots.

This thread is getting way too personal, and all on account of a good game using lousy American accents when it would have been so much smarter to use good old British English. Coming from an Irishman, that’s quite a compliment.

Agreed - it is getting too personal. But only because you made some pretty nasty generalisations about Americans.

So you're Irish. To be honest wouldn't have guessed that from your name. Thought the 'Mc' was usually reserved by the Scots.

Almost got it. I’m Irish, but probably with a touch of Scottish on the paternal side from Cromwells escapades in Ireland, where much raping and pillaging took place as is usually the case with an invading ‘army’. But the bagpipes! That’s a bridge too far, they have a happy, mournful and cheerful note, used at all great royal occasions, such as ......the Edinburgh Tattoo. I love generalisations, and that smile from Andy Murray, wasn’t that a sneer when someone called him British?

It’s a common name in south Armagh, Monaghan, and Louth. A little like Smith.
I can’t be sure where the Mac originated, it’s the same as the McC, Mac, etc. the particular spelling of a name depended on the priests spelling. Apparently it means ‘Son of’. I have no idea what an Ardle is though, not sure I want to know either. With regard to Americans, just think Trump and Bush. For me, that says it all.
And on that happy note, I think I’ll call for a truce. Now, back to my original post; if only they had regional voicepaks

For years, you can hear American English accent in the cutscenes and dialogues and it wasn't an issue until 911 came out ??

Sometimes American accents are appropriate. Space, war, zombies, set in America. But a game like 911 allows you to choose any large city in the world. American accents not appropriate in say, London, Paris, Tokyo, New Delhi etc. Games with an historical setting in medieval Europe or ancient China, American accents isn't the best way to go. At least with the latter you usually have the option of subtitles and turning sound of, so there are workarounds. Hearing a Viking warrior saying "you god damned mother f$$$$in' son of a b#tch" with a Bronx accent, doesn't do it for me. It's about immersion and atmosphere, at least it is with me.
