For the last time Restore the device to new don't restore yet Create a new user Then update to the newer iOS 9 And then restore This took care of the issue for me
At this point, I'm just bracing myself for Game Center no longer working for me, at the very least until iOS X arrives and very likely not even that will fix it.
Just a quick update the fix that I posted about 3 weeks ago is still working for me had no issues at all
What was it? The restore stuff did work for me for about 1-2 months and now it is birken again since 4 months. So I am hesitant to do it again only to run into the same problem months down the road.
Ugh, had not had any GC problems since the first week they started last Fall.... until last week. So, I did the back up to iTunes on the computer and reset the device to factory settings and restored from the computer backup - - and yes, GC is working again. However, should I have to repeat this procedure - is there a way to keep all my apps in the current folders?? I was quite disappointed to see 17 pages of apps outside of the folders I had previously organized them into. That took way too many hours to re-sort and if GC stops working again, I'd like to avoid that if possible...
That shouldn't have happened. It never did for me at least. Restoring from the backup should put your device back the way it was. If you use the encrypted backup it should even restore all of your various login passwords. The only thing I ever had to do after a restore from backup was restore some IAPs.
I have a hunch gamecenter is being fixed Now I have no solid evidence but something or someone tells me that the gamecenter bug is now being looked at more and could be back writhin the next few updates. If you've read my posts in the gamecenter is dead thread then you know along with many awesome gamers that I've been doing my share lately of being active in trying to help with a solution to this bug. I was just lucky enough to have bought my iPhone 6 new and know exactly or precisely around the date and what I've downloaded when it (the bug) had happened because at that time I wasn't downloading items like a mad man. So with documentation , logs , and many accounts from when I have contacted Apple and submitting all my info to many sources along with countless other people constantly going at it I have a small reason to think this is close to being put on a bigger scale at Apple . Gamecenter was definitely not a top priority to fix as u can see with all the bugs that apple has been fixing . I can't really lay down the facts that back up my theory for certain reasons but if there was ever hope it would be now. Thanks to all the devoted gamers from around the web but most certainly toucharcade , I think we will see a result within a few months .
The bug is caused by TestFlight- and you have to download an ap in green light and log in Game Center while playing it- based on personal experience
Between upgrades breaking games and gamecenter bug (I just got it a while ago) iOS gaming is done for me. I can't the way Apple has been handling gaming. It is a shame, because I love mobile and iOS has so much potential. Gonna be back to Sony and Microsoft. If the scenario changes I'll be back.
That 'might' be one cause, but certainly isn't the only source (from personal experience, never having TestFlight installed on my iPad Pro which just got the GC bug this week). I feel like it's more due to older games using GC from my own experiences.... I rely heavily on GC to transfer game progress between all 4 of my iOS devices and if the bug keeps popping up, it will seriously make me consider: 1) the number of games I continue to buy; and 2) how many iOS devices I buy to play them on.
Well my iPad mini 3 running iOS 9.3 fell foul of this bug this morning as I was leaving for work so I've not had any chance to try any of the fixes listed in this thread. I'll be trying somebody them tonight and I'll report back what works if anything. I also have been using TestFlight on this device. But other 2 iPhone 5s and 6s plus still have game centre working for now
I'm still using iOS 9.2.1. This is unfortunate for some, but certain games will work perfectly with GC and others won't. Take the Angry Birds series. Not exactly a popular title on the forums, but it's easier for me to explain: Angry Birds Seasons, although released years ago should work just fine. Why? Because the iOS requirement is 7.0 or above, even though that wasn't the case upon release. Angry Birds original, Space, Star Wars Part one will potentially cause the GC bug if you are susceptible. Why? Because the iOS requirement is below 7.0. I've been through this trainwreck back and forth, all has been well, back up iPad directly to computer, and if there is a problem, install from your backup rather than as a new iPad. No tricks regarding airplane mode, waving a wand in the air, etc.. It's extremely frustrating because there is an insurmountable selection of excellent games that are still on the App Store that breaks GC. Although things are great, I still can't charge Air 2 at night because it will install 9.3.1.
Good luck! I will note that my iPad Pro and iPhone 6+ both had issues with GC in the past week - and when I updated the OS to 9.3.1 it appeared GC worked for a few minutes before breaking again. So, the whole backup to computer through iTunes, erase all settings and content on device and restoring from that computer backup has been the fix for me. (Although just to be safe I uninstalled some older games which I had played right before I noticed the GC bug and I also haven't dared open the GC app or GC settings...)
