Easy fix Alls you gotta do is sign out of GC and sign back in. Check GC and it takes like 2 secs to pop up but it works. I'm using an iPhone 6s with iOS 9.3 as well.
Just a quick update on this fix I posted earlier I had this running all day now with no problems all games that need Gamecenter running fine plus no white screen on the Gamecenter app itself having clicked on it loads of times .
I actually fear wiping my iPad to have iCloud working again. I play Clash Royale on said device and I don't want to lose the savegame by factoryresetting the iPad. Can anyone please confirm a 100% way where I at least have my savegame?
My GC suddenly tonight works again, I do nothing but I launch a game just downloaded and GC ask me to log in. I will keep you updated.
What?? How have I not seen this issue on here before? I've been dealing with this problem for like six months, maybe longer! Even after getting a replacement iPhone 6, I'm still having the problem. Getting a new phone and restoring the phone to factory settings resolved the issue for about one week, but that's it. It's unbelievable it's been going on this long. I work at Apple (as a web developer though), so I'm going to try looking into it now that I can point to this thread and article for evidence. I haven't looked at the entire thread, but has anyone noted that this is not a game centric problem? It's all of game center, and I almost think it's account related (like possibly related to the number of games you have). Once GC stops sitting in a game, you can't get into GC anywhere on the device. The app won't load (white screen) and the settings won't load (the Settings app will just freeze after tapping on Game center). Restarting the device sometimes works. More often I need to close all apps and restart the phone multiple times.
Welcome to the party, pal. Show some big wigs that this is effing ridiculous. It's been broken for how many updates now? Great quality control. I get a white screen when trying to open the app and when I try to access Game Center in Settings it locks up the Settings app so I can't sign out. Been happening for a solid year.
These are my steps to getting it works again from yesterday: 1) ios 9.3 upgrade (but I was in beta before) 2) airplane mode 3) close all apps 4) power + home to restart 5) after restart options-gc-turn off all the option inside (Facebook, Contact, friends etc) 6) after turning all off I sign out from GC Then after all I turn on wifi, I open a game and GC ask me to sign in. From yesterday it still works.
100%? Backup to your iTunes installed computer, factory reset, restore from backup, let all games redox load and install. All your saves, cloud and none cloud will be waiting for you
I think you all should contact Apple on Twitter, @AppleSupport. More is better, they can't act as if nothing has happened.
Doesn't work for everyone, did work a few times for me. Now it does not. The new update 9.3 logged me back into Gamecenter now I can't log out # can't play NBA Live any more ## This is crap! Just a little tip, if you manage to log out of Gamecenter don't log back in. Your life is better without gamecenter. I'm over it been a problem since September and I hate that I'm veteran of this thread. Apple will not help you, they don't respond back to me any more. I'm in the too hard basket. Apple are the worst tech company in the world at the moment... Congratulations # Thanks to Toucharcade for reporting and trying to get to the bottom of the problem. ##
I agree with this BUT if you end up in a DM conversation, tell them you've already done the usual things (assuming you have): - Synced your device with iTunes (Apple Support loves this as a fix-all, even though it doesn't really do anything) - Ensured the device is totally up to date - Restored the OS - Attempted to sign out/sign in (tell them if you have the Settings freeze and therefore cannot do this step) - Tried the Airplane voodoo trick (that was the one that convinced the Twitter lot to escalate my support) If they need to know more about what's happening, I believe my video on YouTube is broadly representative of what many people are seeing in Game Center, so point them at that if relevant to you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrNJS23xCSs You should be punted over to phone support, at which point you can repeat all of this to an Apple rep. After that point, I gather it's quite random. I was rebuffed pretty quickly, with a "it's being looked into and will hopefully be fixed soon" reply, but I know other people are immersed in deeper conversations regarding logging, screen grabs, etc. Keep plugging away, though. Because, as noted in the quote above, the more people who complain, the more likely something will happen. Otherwise, it just looks like a few unlucky people screaming into the wind.
This bug has been slowly advancing on me. About three/four months ago it was happening only now and then. Game Center worked most of the time, but sometimes it crapped out and opening the GC app just resulted in the now infamous "white screen of GC death". I didn't give it much attention or importance at that time and like others today thought too what are these people complaining about? For me force-closing the GC app resolved the issue and that was that. But the bug started to occur more frequent and at some point force-closing wasn't enough anymore. A restart of the device became necessary. From that point on the issue progressed faster and it got really irritating. I found this dedicated forum (thanks for all the contributions here!). Simply restarting the device stopped working too and I learned the airplane mode trick, which has worked for a few days (but only gave me 1 or 2 hours of a working GC each time). Today? GC is dead as a nail. It doesn't work anymore. I have a 100% outage. I still can play all of my games though (at least that), but it still means suffering for me as some of you from the forum know that I like competing on the leaderboards a lot. It's half of the fun for me! I always considered iOS to be the reference for games (the main use of my iPad), but I'm seriously considering that my next tablet will be running Android. Currently, immediately after executing that airplane mode trick, the GC app does open (bubbles!), but any interaction with it, makes it freeze (white screen). Same thing with the Settings app: going to Game Center there, at best allows me to log out, well, touch the logout option, but it results in an everlasting rotating "busy" circle, and the Settings app freezes on any interaction with it (no white screen here though, only the GC app does that) and needs force-closing. It doesn't matter how I go in or out of airplane mode, via the Settings app or via the Control Center. Many people have tried to relate the bug to all sorts of metrics. Number of installed GC games, GC friends, Testflight installed, having two accounts, etcetera, but for every explanation given, I have seen somebody responding it didn't apply to his/her situation. The only fact always recurring is iOS9. Based on my own history, the bug smells like it is caused by a memory leak or a local database corruption. Something local. The fact that a device factory reset and then restore solves the problem (for weeks at least, reading the reports) points to that too. But it is speculation. Only Apple will be able to tell for sure. Personally I don't execute the factory reset because restore is over-the-air only since iOS9. In my case that means generating 45 GB of traffic and I'm not yet prepared to accept that. Unbelievable that it is not possible anymore to do a local backup/restore. I have read the explanations that it is like this because of app slimming and such and I get that, but still... with devices today that go up to 256 GB?? So for now I hold out until Apple comes with a fix for the bug.
Based on what I know the Game Center bug can be reproduced like so TestFlight app Then update the iOS BOOM YOU GOT YOURSELF A NASTY BUG- which will be part of your hard ware forever. Here is a fix to try Before updating to a newer iOS Backup to a computer Wipe out your device Update and then restore from a computer backup And never use test flight
Yeah now that you say it, I had testflight installed two months ago and got the bug, so it must be related somehow. Now I have to do a factory reset every three weeks or so.
I am back suddenly today also. Did you ever contact Apple support about the issue? I did. This is the first time it has randomly start working with using the various voodoo tricks. I wonder if it was in their end the problem was.
GC started working again! Don't know if it's related, but I had TestFlight on my iPad, and the bug happened on my iPhone. After I installed TestFlight on my iPhone as well, and updating the app I am currently beta testing on both devices, I did a soft reset, and now GC works.
So I know this is a very long shot and could mean nothing at all. Since I've been talking to apple, came to conclusion earlier that if happened after I had TestFlight, surveying about TestFlight on many forums and social medias , sent documents in the mail, and talked to a relative that works within apple with all this information and sent many documentation of all these accounts to him to see if he can do something from within. Very slim chance but I will report anything I hear. This community alone has done so much... I believe more than Apple ever has
