I've been talking to apple support and I remember exactly when mine happened. It was when I downloaded TestFlight . I've been trying to get ahold of everyone and find out if they have TestFlight installed
I do. But I also have it installed on my iPad and Game Center works fine. But it's broken on my phone.
That's when my Game Center quit as well. I had just installed Test Flight and 1beta game...a day or 2later GC was dead. I hadn't installed anything else in that time, app-wise. I tried deleting Test Flight and the beta game, doing a complete Nike and fresh restore, but GC still would not come back.
Ok, mine just broke after the 9.3 update. What I just did after lots of tinkering was to cold reboot the iPhone by holding power+ home button, then on restarting went to settings, game center, and then managed to log out and log in again. I wasn't able to open that menu before, since the update. Maybe this problem is different to yours, but thought I'd share. Best.
Providing info I have numerous games that require GC and its still working for me, current iOS always, iPhone 6, in Australia. I have not opened the GC app for quite a long time, although i am logged in so its run at some point, not sure if this helps, but may it be related to running the actual app, not just the background portion?
After updating to 9.3 I went into the GC app. Got bubbles and rejoiced. First game I booted up didn't load GC. Went into settings. Freeze. The GC app itself froze too. Airplane mode, logged out. Freeze. Sadness.
So is this something we should all be looking out for? Does everyone suffering from the bug have TestFlight installed? I know I do.
not me. Haven't had TestFlight on any of my newer devices that the Game Center 'bug' happened on. I must be about 6-7 weeks fixed with my full backup and restore. A wee bit trepidation every day though when I switch on my phone.
An Apple employee is currently investigating this issue with me. He requested videos of several scenarios (GC white screen, GC settings freezing, etc), I could still use some suggestions for free or cheap apps which downright crash or dont load upon opening them. I'd like to make my case as extensive as possible.
Was hoping the new update 9.3 would fix Gamecenter but it didn't so fixed it myself just make sure you have everything backed up on cloud and then restart your device from scratch and then when prompted reinstall from the back up Gamecenter works fine for me now
Every other fix I've used has broken instantly this has now been OK for about 6 hrs so hopefully not we will see
Ridiculous Fishing doesn't load, Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes doesn't load. Any game that relies on GC for doing backups and cross device linking won't work for that feature (like clash of clans or any other supercell game). Hero Academy doesn't work at all (loads but you cannot start games against your friends as it requires GC). Some are pretty big titles I would say.
It's definitely not Test Flight causing this GC issue. To be honest I have no idea what that even is, but it's never been on any device I've owned.
Interesting. My support request hit a wall when engineers said the problem was being "investigated" and "hopefully" there would be a fix "soon". The end. Good to hear there's still some further contact taking place. On videos, I would have thought the white screens and freezing would be reason enough for Apple to respond. The former is an app totally not working, and the other is a second app being killed by the Game Center process. But off the top of my head, Impossible Road has a high-score button built in that obviously cannot function when GC is knackered; and Dashy Crashy post-crash gives you a dialog box with a photo and a Game Center button, the latter of which kicks you over to GC (which, natch, will white-screen).
I just discovered the other day that the Halo games don't work without GC. At this point I'm not as concerned with GC, but I'm starting to get concerned about buying games now as I might not be able to play them.
