What's frustrating to me, besides the problem itself, is that everyone seems to be in denial. Apple acts like it's new to them...."oh, tell me all about it and let's see what we can do"..... When told I'd tried the Nike and restore thing multiple times, they say that's what they'd recommend. They act like nobody else has mentioned this issue. When I've mentioned this problem in other forums, other posters tend to just say, " what do you care about Game Center for?" Really really REALLY frustrating.
That's strange. You've changed your nickname and it started working again? I haven't changed my nick but suddenly -- out of nowhere and without changing anything on my devices (iPhone 6S, Apple TV 4, Mac) -- Game Center worked again and I could log-in. But now it vanished again, only the White Screen of Death remains. I don't see any pattern here or a certain behavior we could reverse engineer.
I don't want to jinx it but it looks like that changing the Game Center nickname really helps. Can anybody else confirm this?
I believe I changed it through settings yes I'll go take a look and see if I can figure out how exactly I did it. I have one device with working GC remember so you might have to have access to another apple device with working GC in order for this to work. I'm sorry it's not very useful for those with only one but if anyone with two can give this a try and let us know if it worked? It definitely is weird GC came back on my iPad after I did it.
In my twitter DM conversation they want me to set up my phone as new for monitoring purposes. This is ridiculous [emoji35]
Me too. We could add the number of our forum posts (the total sum for example) to the petition. This bug crept on me progressively. I used to be able to resolve it by just force-killing the GC app. Then I needed to power off/on my iPad. Two weeks ago the airplane mode trick worked. And since a couple of days I'm 100% down. This "progression" took place in the course of about 2-3 months. This weekend I hope to do a wipe/restore. I first need to get my laptop back up and running; the HD broke down. I need my laptop also to get the GC debug logs for Hippie that is still on my iPad.
Be warned that a wipe/restore might not make any odds. It made no difference whatsoever on my iPhone. Oddly, GC started working on my iPad yesterday, and then promptly broke again an hour later. This is ridiculous. Still, I'm promised a call from Apple tomorrow afternoon. It'll be interesting to see how that goes.
This is so freaking frustrating. I can't believe how much time I've spent trying different possible solutions to no avail. I'm trying one more time combining all I've seen posted. The initial stage allowed me into GC for the first time in weeks. Allowed me to play a game I've not been able to play in weeks but now I'm adding the rest of my games so we shall see if it continues to work & if so for how long.
Uggghhh ... ok, ready for the backup/wipe/restore ... So how again do I make a backup to my computer? Seems that iOS9 (9.2) and iTunes (12.3.2.35) don't backup apps anymore to my computer?? Since I upgraded to iOS9 I haven't done any backup so this has changed since iOS8? I have one device only and just want to backup to my PC and then restore from it. Is that still possible? Am I getting old in not trusting re-downloads as part of a restore process (not to mention I don't want to tax my broadband account with 40GB of data)?
If I understand correctly. To have your computer automatically backup your apps - You probably need to go to iTunes, preferences, store & select Apps under Automatic Downloads. That will allow Itunes to download the apps you purchase.
Thanks, I did try that, but it doesn't change anything. Backup or sync only has put some music files on my PC so far. The option does say it applies to "new purchases made on other devices" which doesn't really apply to me (I don't have other devices and also, I want to backup existing purchases on my one device). Obviously my main concern is game save data (and apps that are not in the appstore anymore).
Got cha. Ok then the backup should bring in all apps not currently in the iTunes library on your computer including those no longer on App Store. Save data is tricky. it can be in iCloud or iCloud Drive or the app itself. That's where the restore comes into play. My concern is couldn't I also be restoring the GC bug.
iTunes no longer copies apps from your device. I read in the apple support forum that it has something to do with app thinning. Being that your device doesn't have the whole app on it, only the assets your device needs. If you want to back up you apps you will have to download them from the App Store. As for backing up your phone and restoring, you can do a back up by simply syncing your device with iTunes. Make sure you turn off Back Up to iCloud in your devices settings. Also be sure to go into each section of your device, Apps, Music, etc., in iTunes and make sure the sync box is checked or unchecked depending on your preference. My suggestion is to turn them all off if you don't regularly sync with your PC. After you sync with iTunes you can do the restore. When the restore is finished, restore again from the back up. As part of the restore process iTunes will initiate a download of the apps that were on your device, from the App Store. This download is done by your device. I'm not sure how this would go down if you turned on airplane mode. Basically either way you will have to download all the apps again.
Quick question: how many accounts are in active use on the devices of people having this problem? (I have two.) No idea if this makes any odds or not. Support call imminent, too. I'll post back here when it's done. Update: Apple aware of the issue. My case escalated, and I should expect an update early next week.
