I don't mind wiping the device...only fear is I'll lose progress in my son's game and I'm just trying to avoid that. I'm hearing the save file is actually stored on Supercell's servers and linked to his device ID...so it may work out. Applesupport replied to my tweet, I'm just waiting for them to respond to my DM. We'll see how it goes.
So I've usually been able to temporarily fix the problem by: turning on airplane mode> resetting phone> going back into settings> logging out of GC> turning wifi back on> logging back in. But lately, I've been unsuccessful. I'll be able to get into GC on settings after resetting my phone, but when I log out, it just loads and never gives the option to sign back in. If I try to back out of settings and go back in, GC is frozen like "normal". Don't know if that would signify anything, but just wanted to let you guys know.
Listen to Lord Gek! Mine broke last night. Before heading to work I hooked up the iPad and followed his instructions. When I got home everything was there including all of the progress I've made on my installed games. It works, GC is back, and I will back up via usb cable weekly for insurance. Make sure in settings under iCloud Drive that you have option turned off where you back up via iCloud. Boom ditty boom ditty rat tat tat! - Mr. Roper
Glad to hear, but the true test is how LONG it works befote crapping out again. Three+ weeks myself so far but I just know this is likely temporary.
I don't think the backup & restore workaround is stable though, it failed on me in the past and as I said I even upgraded from iPhone 6 to an iPhone 6S and the bug carried forward with the device change!
What I can't get through my brain is why Apple is allowing this to continue. I just don't understand it at all. My method fixed it for me but it cropped out a few days later. Now it comes back intermittently but it will stop working again even when I quit the app that it just all of a sudden started working in lol How can Apple allow this to continue and not fix this?
My guess from what I know from working as a software developer is that the issue affects a small percentage of users, and the effort required to fix it is big. Apple might even have problems getting to reproduce it. The problem is that a small percentage of millions of devices is still a pretty big number of them. I have to agree with you though that it looks a bit preposterous since if it affects you, it is a pretty critical error with no possible workaround, you just lose a feature of the device entirely, rendering quite a lot of games unusable.
I doubt it. Companies will sue over lost revenue as they pay money for GC. I hope they keep it but simply fix it. Lord Gek has been going strong for more than 3 weeks. Prior to following his instructions, my GC would last no longer than 2 weeks. Back up device through computer, not iCloud. Then, do a complete reset. Do not restore as a brand new device. Restore it as the backup you just made. If you have a lot of apps it could take a few hours but you can walk away from computer and go outside, do errands, shoot hoops, etc. I'm going to back up frequently to make sure all is well. Also make sure that you turn the option off for backing up iPad via icloud.
While it clearly depends on how great your wi-fi connection is and how much crap you'd previously loaded on your device, but I just started it up before I went to bed and had most of my apps restored and waiting for me the next morning. Most of the apps restored with all of their unlocks and such intact by the next morning.
It's probably worth noting that although Apple generally recommends doing a restore and/or starting afresh, neither of these things is guaranteed to fix Game Center. A full restore on my iPhone 6s from a back-up temporarily fixed it, but it went again and has never worked since. (Similarly, the airplane jumping-through-hoops thing worked for a while, but doesn't any longer.) But if this were tied specifically to broken back-ups, my iPad Air 2 wouldn't be suffering with the problem, and it is. Yet this can't be specifically tied to accounts, because my iPad Air is, currently at least, fine. So far, my conversation with Apple hasn't been that helpfuljust fairly generic stuff about checking networks. Now they want me to do an iTunes sync with the busted devices, because that apparently "can help". We'll see
Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but my Game Center seems to break (white screen) whenever I use an app from TestFlight. I was finally able to get mine working by deleting all test flight apps from my device. Logging out of the app store and the doing the flight mode reboot fix. Hope this helps
Well, it lasted for 30 days. I factory reset and restored from back up on February 6 and today, March 8, it crapped out again. Boo!
Have you guys bombed Apple's new Twitter support account with our issues? For reasons unknown, Game Center suddenly worked again for me 2 weeks ago. But now, it's back to the White Screen of Death. I didn't try to factory-reset my iPhone, and Game Center is still working on my iMac and Apple TV. This is really, really annoying. But Apple doesn't seem to care about Game Center at all. Mac game devs told me Game Center is responsible for 90 % (!) of their support tickets and it's gotten worse with every new OS release. Who is responsible for this mess?
i bought a iPad mini 4 in February and no GC bug for a long time then I started losing GC occasionally usually when it was my turn to play a turn in a game thus causing me to lose. Now it looks like the bug is here for good. Strangely, GC Is working at the moment on my iPhone 6. It seems like it started working again after I changed my GC name. Just a coincidence?
