Quick-Fun-Super Hard-Games

Discussion in 'General Game Discussion and Questions' started by Slayergramp, Nov 4, 2013.

  1. I enjoy it. It is a difficult game and you have to take a lot of risks, which are worth it if you manage to make them work...somehow...it's a hard game

Its a really good game, but I never got into it.
I need to revisit it. It just never grabbed me and made me keep going.

No way, not at all. The core gameplay is so simple, but the devs really throw some insanely tough scenarios at you and there are tons of cool mechanics. There are puzzle elements, but it's all very twitchy and reflex testing. You have to be fast and be paying attention to beat the later stages and endless mode

Edit: This thread grew 12 pages in one day. Impressive. Nice to see that we have the big audience on TA for these kinds of games

  5. That is true, like Impossible Road, but usually never play for more than 5 minutes, though it is fun. Great icade fun too.

Thanks for the Catch 22 recommend, really enjoying it so far.

One thing that seems missing here is

    Don't Shoot Yourself!

Gut wrenching hard, minimalistic, and a huge blast.

I am loving the game, and there will be another control update soon with another control option soon.

It's not missing, there's just a lot of pages to get lost inside ;)

For those curious about how it plays, there is a demo online.

Also recommend Space is Key, Deadly Bullet and Bitless. Next to those are Pivvot and Hundreds.

+ if you have the time and have gone through all these awesome games, I challenge you to try "Clumsy And The Stars" the first game me and my partner made.

The levels are too hard for the casual player, so we made it completely free(no IAP, no nothing). It still doesn't get downloads.

Thanks for everyone who posted games on this thread. Not a lot of sleep will be happening in the following weeks :))

    Me too

Not to mention the several pages the Boson X thread grew, and the fact we bumped BX back into "Hot New Games".

^Crazy Bill and Slayin are two of my favorite Arcade Action games, but Crazy Bill doesnt really fit the "quick fun super hard" description as this is more an endless runner with tons of upgradeables and unlockables, and it has consumable IAPs included in it.

+1 for Clumsy and the stars. im Really enjoying this little game. Its like a much harder Little Luca.

Edit: also enjoying crazy bill, but the art and sound FX (especially the SFX. they sound like they were recorded on an iphone mic) are pretty bad. Ahh well, the gameplays nice. Just paid a buck to remove the ads, so I guess I gotta play it now...

I guess I'm going to grab Hundreds.

Thank you so much for spending time and playing Clumsy. It was really our first try at making an iPhone game and it is a metaphor to our dream of making games for a living(Clumsy is us ---> stars is dream).

Any feedback and opinions on how we can make it better are invaluable :)

I'd love to play it and give you feedback.
I've only spent 15 minutes with it so far, and my initial advice would be:
    - as you mentioned, the difficulty will put off most gamers. So if your dream is to make games for a living, your games need to appeal to players of all types.
    - I love that its heavily inspired by Little Luca, and it may be entirely too early to assume this, but it feels like you should have used LL as inspiration, yet varied from their formula a little more, so Clumsy could carve out his own Niche. (Even the "stars is missing" story is taken from LL) I think inspiration works best when you adapt it and make it more your own.

I will play through it and let ya know, though. Good luck. Love the game.

Edit: Wait, did your game come out BEFORE LL?

Hello gents. Bleau's partner in crime here and quite a player of difficult games. Few things make me giggle more than rage quits :))
@Lazer Kat, thanks a bunch for the feedback! Clumsy was not meant to be so difficult and you're right: it alienated quite a lot of players because of that.
About Little Luca, it's the first time I hear about it but we had a completely different inspiration source, which we utterly buchered during development. I also noticed that Little Luca came out almost 1 year later than Clumsy, at least that's what the App Store shows.

We did not mean to steal the thread and it is already taking up too much space ;). Is it ok if we just start a different thread on iPhone games and continue the talk there?

Have also dloaded clumsy but not had chance to play yet as I've been busy beating lazer on the catch22 leader boards :)
