Since we're talking difficult games here, which did you vote for this week (if you voted for either): Wingdot or Don't Shoot Yourself? Or perhaps if those were the only two nominees, which would you vote for? I'm still trying to decide between the two. While I really enjoy Wingdot's style and brutal gameplay, I felt that DSY's levels and mechanics were always inventive, challenging, and original
One big difference is one is portrait, one was landscape from what i can remember. Extended is better, but the original is quite good too.
I had a tough time choosing as both are my most played games this week, I've enjoyed both equally but in the end I went with dsy for the reasons you mentioned, I've never played a bullet hell type game before so that felt totally new to me which swung my vote.
I edited my post on the first page (post #4) to be a list of all the games mentioned so far throughout the thread
Maybe we should vote for an underdog this week over a well known. Maybe I will vote for Don't Shoot Yourself cause of the upcoming update and the game is great fun.
Am I the only one who doesn't enjoy Mos Speedrun? I got it when it was free a while back and I remembered it today because of the TA article. Played it again and my impressions were the same. I feel the physics are too loose and the controls aren't that tight. I finds it's too easy to overshoot jumps. Compared to 14px, Pixman, LoE, where I can land precise jumps as intended. Idk, just never liked it that much
I wouldn't call it super hard, but a good one is Pix N' Love Rush. I never played it on iOS, but I still have it on my PSP.
Another game I think fits the criteria here is Fireball SE. I usually prefer the more aggressive dual sticks, but there is something so satisfying about threading your way through a closing gap at the last moment.
You're not the only one, but I don't really enjoy it for completely different reasons than yours. At the same time, I do recognize it's a great game, and a lot of effort is put into it, but it's just not the game for me. Then again, I haven't played it in a long time.
My game of the week choice last week was much easier than I expected it to be. In a week where there were several big name premium titles that I really enjoyed (Oceanhorn, tilt to live 2, epoch 2, Neon Shadow), my favorite game was "Chicken Boy". A distant second for me was WingDot. I recognize that Don't Shoot Yourself is a good game, but the controls were unacceptable to me.
I'm voting for Oceanhorn but if it was between those two, I'd currently have to say Wing Dot. That may change when there are new controls introduced for DSY. But I've been having a blast with Wing Dot. And despite some people with reservations about the humor in the game, I kind of like it. I do really suck at it though.
I think Mos Speedrun is one of the tightest, best feeling touch-screen platformers ever, and I'm a very if platformer fan, and a huge critic when it comes to the genre.
I hope the DSY update comes out before the voting is over so I can make a better decision. Getting used to the controls but still not ideal As for Wingdot, it has that great SH appeal in that my first run was something like 5 seconds and I instantly wanted to try again. And really TA is slacking on the reviews. No reviews yet for Wingdot, Beat Leap, and then games that aren't suited for this thread but that I advocated for, The Honeycomb and Naught 2 Off topic, but I'm a bit bummed out because the Naught 2 devs had to close down because they never got enough sales
I would have voted for Air Supply - Infinite but it didn't make it into the poll. I have fallen hard for that game. Sorry it took me ages to accept your Game Center request, Lazer. I get a lot of requests and I usually ignore them unless I recognize a name from TA.
I nominated that game, I didn't notice it til pretty late on in the week and by then don't shoot yourself and wingdot had been taking all my time that teamed with the crashing issues I get with that game I've not had chance to really get into it yet, love what I've been able to play though and I'll be chasing you on the board when the next out (who am I kidding, no chance of getting anywhere near you lol)
I'm not real sure what exactly constitutes a twitch game, but my personal definition is a game in which your reflexes take over, and it doesn't even feel like you're using your brain. If this is the definition I'm using, I'd like to add add Bit.Trip.Run to the discussion. Now that the controls are fixed, when playing on hard, especially the original levels, can be brutally difficult. You really have to zone out and let your reflexes do the work to Ace the levels. I'm trying to get 3 "!'s w/ a +" on each level. Its very challenging.
Bit-1 Here's the free version of a cool platformer to try It isn't brutal at first, but it gets there. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bit-1-free/id492153831?mt=8 Who'm I kidding? This game is freaking BRUTAL. The thing about it is, though, its fair. Try the free version. IF you survive the free version, pick up the full one for a buck. Edit: this thread should come with a warning label. I'm sure it'll cause a few devices to get thrown.
