I just saw this video for an iPhone breathalyzer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vV3eyu06Leo&eurl=http://www.businessinsider.com/2008/12/iphone-breathalyzer-an-iripoff-aapl From the information I've learned, accessories connected to the dock can only receive information from the iPhone... they can't transmit information to the iPhone... at least that's what I thought... I'm wondering if this breathalyzer is actually sending information to the iPhone... can't really tell from the video... seems like maybe the iPhone just acts as a power supply? not sure.. Appreciate any information from developers or engineers that know about the iPhone dock...
If you look at other videos, it looks like it's just using it as a power source.. or just using the docking connector to get the sound output to send via FM. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWDHbFS1TQQ&feature=related The idea of a breathalyzer + FM transmitter combo sure is unique.
you can do serial transfer through the dock. its just not "technically" permitted by apple unless you are part of the 'made for iphone' program.
