Hey there, any advice from developers who've been through this before would be helpful. Thanks!

Swipey Rogue is my first fully solo game. My game status on iTunes Connect is: "Pending Developer Release" and there is a big button labeled: "Release This Version".

    Questions:
    - does the app go immediately live when you hit that button?
    - are there options after that button?
    - can I set a date so that it goes live at midnight in each time zone when it hits that date?
    - if it is just a manual switch, which time zone midnight should I choose? GMT?

Thanks in advance for any advice here!

2nd bonus question: how do I make one of those cool game threads in the released section now?

  2. We have also found this very confusing. We hit the release button based on New Zealand midnight and then it released at midnight based in all the other timezones. But if you choose a timezone definitely pick NZ.

Sorry, quick follow up question. Is there a dialog after hitting the button where you can pick a time/date? Or does the button just do it? It sounds like a stupid question I'm sure, there must be a confirmation at least. I'm spooked, so I want to make sure. Thanks!

Ok, here's how I understand it based on these two blog entries:
    http://andreaskambanis.com/pending-developer-release-and-availability-date-what-it-all-means/
    http://www.pixelenvision.com/3890/itunes-connect-availability-date-vs-version-release-revisited/

    - The "Availability Date" in the "Pricing" tab controls actual release.

    - The "Manually Release / Automatically Release" toggle (which is only visible before you submit for approval) only controls whether or not the app is set into a "release state" automatically after it is approved.

    - If you select manual then the "Release This Version" button appears when approved and the app is not put into "release state" until you hit that button.

    - When the app is in "release state", then it will actually release if (and only if, I believe) the current date in past the availability date in the pricing tab.

Since I had set the toggle to "manually release" when I submitted for approval, I see the "Release This Version" button now that it is approved. SO, I believe that as long as my "availability date" is set correctly for the future, I can click the "Release This Version" button and the app won't actually release until that date in each time zone.

*phew* Please correct me if I'm incorrect here. I think I've got it sorted. I'm releasing this Thursday so I want to be able to go to sleep tonight haha. It will be the 27th in New Zealand in less than 7 hours!

Wish me luck. I'm going for it.
