Zero for me. That said I've seen people spend WAY too much on this game. The game makes it easy to want to spend money but it is by no means necessary. If you want to go the free route just make sure your starting god is good and you should be fine. For reference, I started with a Persephone and it was smooth sailing with no money invested.
http://puzzleanddragonsforum.com/showthread.php?tid=6337 Basically the idea is you keep on redoing the tutorial of the game until that first monster you get is a god... and a good one. We have a godfest coming up some time this week (they haven't announced exactly when yet) so that is the best time to reroll until you get something good to start off with since a godfest triples the likelihood of you getting certain gods. the logic for rerolling is... the first monster you get is the only one you can effectively control (since if it's bad you just restart and get another one for free). After that it is truly random though (since restarting means losing everything including that first good monster) and the only way to get additional good monsters is to be lucky or keep throwing stones (aka money) at it. So if you guarantee you get at least one good monster (almost always from a gold egg from the machine you use at the end of the tutorial) off the first one you should be able to make it through the game with the free monsters you get from levels after that (with proper strategy and patience).
"the logic for rerolling is... the first monster you get is the only one you can effectively control (since if it's bad you just restart and get another one for free" Isnt that the same rerolling and restarting in this context? So what statd for a god monster are good so i would keep it?? Is this hunting season the godfest you were talking about?
Puzzle and Dragons The godfest is a time-limited increase in the chance of pulling certain types of monsters from the rare egg machine or a time-limited special dungeon where a certain monster will drop, meaning you get some of them after beating the dungeon. I've been playing for free for quite a while now (level 36) because I downloaded from US App Store which I have no credit card for. I'm in Canada and I read somewhere there are plans to release it here soon. Can someone tell me if it is coming to Canada officially? Mind you, It's kind of good NOT to be able to buy stones because they are expensive and the game REALLY makes you want to buy stones to beat a level you keep losing over and over, for example. The biggest in-app-purchase is $59.99 which gets you 85 stones. This is how they were making $3M PER DAY on this game in the Japanese market. puzzleanddragonsx.com has a database of all the monsters and how their stats level up and how they can evolve over time. I started with a standard blue Plessie but at some point got a decent leader through rare egg machine. You need to play the game for a bit to see how all the stats function. They tend to be balanced out in monsters with those having high attack skill not being as tough in HP for example. Very good to have a leader with a leader skill that you can build a team around. Each monster's leader skill offers a different type of benefit, such as ATK and DEF boosts for different colors or types of monsters, among others, that affect your whole team plus any helpers, so a good leader skill can make a big difference to a team's effectiveness. Getting friends online in the game is important because you use their monsters including leader skills if you are friends, and you get pal points which let you use the pal egg machine. I try not to spend stones on continuing battles or restoring stamina, trying to accumulate them to use the rare egg machine to get better monsters. So my point: you don't necessarily need to start with an ace god monster, you can build a decent monster box as you play levels. It's casual play so not really about beating the game as much as it is building your collection of monsters and having fun leveling them up and puzzling through battles. From a seemingly simple premise they've managed to craft a very complex game with lots of playability.
1) rerolling is the same as restarting yes. 2) See the thread I linked. In this coming godfest... any of the Norse gods would be good (particulalry Loki though since mono dark is the easiest to do with no in-app purchases) 3) No. The godfest just got announced and runs [Duration]: 7/31, 8:00 PM - 8/1, 7:59 PM (PDT). It will literally say "godfest live" or something like that on the rare egg machine button if it is on. All that said... this godfest combination is a little disappointing as most people were expecting Chinese and Angels... That would have been a great one to be rerolling in.
So even though the godfest isnt on yet... I managed to get "Ra".... Is this common to et him esrly in the tutorial ? And do i get the good goods aswell even though the godfest isnt on yet?
I tried this game because my boyfriend has been addicted to it for the last month. The game is alright, but it's pretty redundant. Worse than that though is that pay wall. The bosses have scaled faster than my monsters, so I'm at a point where I can't beat the bosses without using stones. What do?
Pay lots of money, of course. At least you can take comfort in the idea that the developers are making huge profits.
this game is easy to play without paying money. there is no paywall. you can farm alot of the necessary monsters at low levels and use them to farm the harder endgame monsters. plus you get some stones from gungho each month during the events. everything is killable without using money. plenty of forums and sites out there that have lots of information. currently im rank 250ish with max boxes and friends. along with 150 stones stored cause i don't really want any of the new monsters. I haven't spent a dollar and have cleared every dungeon. this game isn't about clearing every dungeon as fast as you can at the start. you need to farm up good monsters and level them up to make good teams to do the end game content. most people don't even go past castle of satan in the beginning cause they go straight to tech dungeons to level up stuff.
I don't know exact figures but I've been told the odds of getting a god normally are a little worse than 10%. So on average you should get a god about every ten times you do the tutorial... and it could be any of them. During a godfest the likelihood of getting certain gods is tripled... so the odds of getting a god overall increase to a little under 20% (so I've been told)... BUT it is about 3x as likely you'll get one of the gods active in the godfest as compared to another god. No ones knows the exact oddss but Gungho... but I hope that answers your question. EDIT: and yeah David... it's amazing how much money people spend on this game. I'm just glad I can enjoy it without spending a penny... but man... it's amazing they rake in millions of dollars a month on this game... it's like gambling in a cute wrapper!
You can actually get on alright by just making friends who have "Resolve" or a similar ability. Evolved Ogres and Viper Orochi have an ability that let's you survive a massive hit as long as your HP is at a certain threshold (50-75 percent depending on the Monster/skill name). Having friends with that ability got me through a ton of the early content.

i really want to like this game, i have spent quite a good amount of time, and money (like 100 bucks) made it to rank 60. and have realized how iap driven it is. the stamina is old hat with the iap, but the fusion part is one of the most annoying because you have to spend dollars just to hold all of the fusion materials (which there are tons) at a dollar for 5 slots. your bombarded with these crappy monsters and your gonna want to save at least 2 of each kind so when your ready for evolution, your not gonna have to wait for the "special event" to get a chance at catching that one elusive guy. most of the levels have super uneven enemies where your breeze through the levels, only to get stomped by the boss, so you can continue for another dollar. now to the icing on the cake. the only way to get most of the good characters, is to spend 5 dollars for a pull at a toymachine, to get a "rare" which almost never happens. even during their better chances schemes. i did about 15 of these 5 dollar pulls and only got 2 of the god characters, but i'm not mad i didn't get the rarest guys, but more than half of the time i got a garbage 3 star rareity or a copy of a guy i already have. i have gotten the same pull 4 times, (so 8 pulls or $40) since the game has about 800 monsters, i feel pretty cheated when i pull the crappiest guy two times costing me 10. anyway /rant do yourself a favor, dont play this crap. if only it was a real game, and not freemium crap, then i would still be playing as it stands, this game is the devil. deleted
They got you to spend $100. If people keep doing that, then of course publishers will keep making games like this. You're sort of contributing to the problem.
