@Dan, I lost everything, and it's real simple: fourth gen touch, latest stock iOS (5.1.1) Updated on the device. Upon launching the game, no continue. Restarted, relaunched the app, nope, my previous game was gone. Started a game, entered a name for the town, waited for the opening story and... crash. Relaunched... same thing. Rebooted, relaunched... same thing. Came to forums, saw I wasn't alone. Uninstalled, re-downloaded, and now it works as well as it ever did (crashes every now and again, but it always has on the touch) sans my original game and the coins (which I don't actually care about, but figured I'd mention it ).
This is exactly what happened to me, except on an iPad 3 (latest iOS, 5.1.1). My device hadn't presented with the no-string bug, and I had avoided opening the game (for the past week or so), as recommended by ArsThanea. After updating, the option the continue was gone, and creating a new town caused the game to immediately crash. Solved by uninstalling, reinstalling the 1.0 version (backed up on my PC), creating a new town, then updating.
Update issue I had previously got the No String bug, have not played it since then and was awaiting an update to start a new game. Installed the update and tried to create a new game and it immediately crashed afterwards. Uninstalled and installed the game again and was able to create a new game now, but no coins I wouldn't normally care about the coins, except that I already lost a lot of time due to a bug and some coins would've eased the leveling up process. Using an iPhone 4S with iOS 5.1.1. App update was downloaded through iTunes on a Mac. edit: just went back and read the previous pages. the process of resetting before doing the update was not clarified at all on the app store, only in the forum which not many people will check.
I have, i'm on the 4s too. I'm guessing here but i think it happens if you scroll through your tools too many times. A workaround is to use another tool first, then the toolbar reverts to its default state, enabling you to access all tools.
Expanding on this again for Dan: Both of my devices are jailbroken. They both have Springtomize 2, Sbsettings, Winterboard, and Scrollingboard. Neither one has very much theming stuff, usually just a basic mask over the icons. My iPod 4 also has some launch daemons removed to free up memory, so it usually hovers around 110-120 when idle (which is what I traditionally see immediately after jailbreaking and before installing tweaks). Not sure if it's a memory issue because of this, since it appears to be enough to run all other apps on it with stability. *shrug* Both are also on the latest iOS version.
Everyone is not ticked off. Speak for yourself, but do not presume to speak for me or the community as a whole. Your inability to understand how this could happen merely shows your ignorance. Yes, it is a nasty bug. Yes the "fix" has made matters worse. No one is denying that. And don't be surprised if the next patch takes longer to get to you, because they spend more time testing it to prevent a reoccurrence.
First of all; I feel sorry for all the players that have had This incredible GOOD gaming experience ruined by those nasty bugs! I just want to let the devs know that not everybody is hating on their game.. I find Puzzlecraft to be one of the best iOS games released so far This year, and that i have enjoyed it very much. Never had a single bug either. I'm now hopefully awaiting a content update.
Agreed. Despite the problems, this is still one of my favorite iOS games this year. Sort out the bugs, and get some content updates moving!
I decided to revisit my beloved town of Mooreton. I could not belief my eyes. Once proud homes dotted the land. These homes provided refuge for tired workers after days spent toiling in the fields. Or down the mines where they used their bare hands to pull stone and ore from the dirt therein. These homes were gone. The fields and woods that once teemed with all manner of wildlife from rats to wolves and where grain magically turned into carrots were gone too. Nothing remained. What had happened to cause such devastation. Some said it was bugs. Others said it was a lack of string. The only hope is that the great god Chillingo can restore order. I have too much time on my hands since Puzzle Craft broke
There's a bug in 1.0.1 - when I scroll to the right in the tools screen the left ones disappear. Achievements don't work either.
It crashed again for me in the gas explosion. Not a chain reaction this time, it was the first explosion on that screen. Both crashes had the explosion in the upper left part of the screen, I don't know if that's relevant. Playing on iPad 3, no jailbreak or other modifications.
Crashed again. This time it didn't even get to the explosion, it crashed when I had five gas bubbles adjacent in a chain and it should have highlighted them to explode next turn. Seems like a crash is very reproducible if you don't even try to clear the gas bubbles or avoid explosions.
Some more ideas for future updates or add-ons: + new fields and resources: -- a port at the water, the river itself or a lake (fish, squids, kraken, shells, gold etc) -- the forest (wood, wolves, mushrooms, berries, deers) ---> following that logic the wolves/wood move from the field to the forest. At the same time they are substituted by moles and molehills (material earth/dirt after removal of the mole) on the field + new puzzle game mechanics for the new fields (instead of having to line up materials all the time): -- similar to Yoshi's Cookie (move rows) or Bejeweled (match-3 switching elements with neighbors) -- combining blocks (Tetris, Columns or Blokus variant) -- similar to Puzzle Bobble (shooting balls) -- or as known in a classic Memory card game ---> the mechanics that include more risk/luck or tempo seem perfect for something like fishing, which has to be done fast before the fish is gone. What do you guys think of these ideas?
Whelp, I'm also one of the unlucky ones. Had zero problems before the update, updated, and now it's a clean slate -- not what I was hoping for, by the way. And as anyone who's read my posts in this thread knows, I've offered nothing but praise for the game and its developers. But I changed my App Store review to a nice, fat 1-star 'til you guys get your **** together. Oops, forgot -- we're not supposed to be critical of $1 games. My bad.
Updated the game before reading this thread and lost everything- at least 10 hours of gameplay. When you make the decision to monetize the in game currency you have a higher responsibility to your users to protect it. 5000 gold does not come close to making up for the mistake the dev made. Total BS. This was such a great game too.
If you lost your save and weren't automaticaly given the 5000 gold is there anyone to get it? Anyone to contact?
You can try contacting the dev. Alternatively, if you still have version 1.0 on your computer, you can try reinstalling it, resetting the game and starting a new town. Play until you have the market and then update the game. At least 1 person has said that this works.
