This is exactly what is happening to me, after the patch. I had stopped playing my game after the no-string bug started to make the rounds, even going keeping my iPad in airplane mode and not plugging into the computer, in the hopes I could avoid getting the bug myself; I was a little obsessed with the game, hehe. I installed the patch today, started up the game, and was presented with the dialogue to create a new town... so I assume I had gotten the no-string bug. Buuuut, when I go to create a new town, the game crashes on me. I've tried rebooting a few times, but nothing seems to make the game work again. Sad.
Same... Had no string, update and town is gone, try to make a new one, crash. Always crashes there after trying a few times. Blah...
-checks app store, downloads update- Good news is the no string bug is fixed. Bad news is my save file is completely gone. I wasn't too far in to the game when the bug hit me so I'll take the free coin, start fresh with the advantage of knowing now what I didn't know then and hope the studio learns from this mistake and dosent break my game on me again heh.
Sigh, nevermind. Crashes every single time at new game creation. Reboots didn't work. Waited for gamecenter, didn't work. -twiddles thumbs- iPad3, 64gig.
iCloud backup is turned off in my phone settings. I am syncing a few things: contacts, calendars, reminders, and bookmarks. I couldn't find any iCloud settings in the app itself. But I do have an iCloud account, and if the app is doing iCloud saving I might not even be aware.
This is sick. Other than the update text in the App Store says a simple update doesn't fix your game. You have to remove it completely and reinstall the new version. At first I updated as they said but it crashed when I finished typing the name of my new city. Then I removed it completely including the data/game center (thanks!) and reinstalled it, which did the trick. But guess what: I have zero coins. Zero, not 5000. The update text said "just update", so I didn't follow the instructions given in a "P.S." in this forum. Thanks again. It's still a great game and I don't want to complain too much, but I would have preferred to wait a few more days for a perfect gaming/update experience instead of a new disappointment. I am somehow sorry for the devs, on the other hand I don't think I am going to feature the game with some IAP after today. Looking forward to the next updates and what might be coming. P.S. (haha): is there any chance to get the coins? /Edit: played it for about an hour and I still love it. Great game! I'm at level 7 now. Did you guys change the button layout? Some of the buttons for "instabuy" with in-game coins can accidentally be hit pretty easy, Not just because of their position but because they are green (which is pretty inviting). Has it always been that way?
Fixed the issue for mine. Just uninstalled the game and reinstalled. Let me make a town. So here's hoping. No 5k though
Should have read on here first, just updating hope I don't lose my save I didn't get any bugs the first time just crashes
Ok, so I saw a post saying that if we got no-stringed, we should reset our game before installing the update. Is there anyone who did that and has had good luck afte updating? I'm kinda afraid to update now with people posting that their save was lost, but maybe they didn't reset before updating? Meaning they still were holding out hope that they'd get their original save back... Ther has been some confused communication on this subject. Someone has been posting here seeming official, and said to reset their game before updating. But the Facebook page said the opposite. Btw I noticed a problem with those arrows, when you are in a no-moves-available situation. Scrolling left or right brings up the "would you like to use tools or unlock" dialog every arrow press. I guess it's good that there is some way to trigger unblock if you clicked tools and then change your mind, but this is kinda hidden and makes scrolling tedious. A better place to re-display the dialog would be, if the user clicks anywhere on the board.
No my game save is gone!!! This is absurd I put so many hours into it and was so close to finishing it.... I'm sorry devs but that was a bIg mistake on your part

Okay wait, I'm confused by a few posts here. Did anyone who had not encountered the no string bug update and have problems, lose their save, etc? IOW, I've played, or at least checked in to the game, daily and had no issues so far. Should I update or wait?
Guys, For those with NO STRING bug - as I wrote before. If you have NO STRING alert or blank name of your village in the main screen, reset game & start new one. Do that BEFORE installing update. After building market money should arrive. If you have already market built - money should appear at first visit in village.
