I am with you, it would be good to know if the devs generally have the possibility to update the AppStore product text without having an update. I am afraid the new text can only be published together with the update. And that is what we are waiting for. On the other hand - if it's possible - I would of course have expected some information about the bug in the product description. Now that I think about it I feel like you, but I guess the devs didn't expect the Apple update progress to take that long. In best intention they delivered the fix and maybe thought it would be available soon enough, without the need of removing the game. During the best and only phase of promotion and public notice. There is no second chance in a few month, press is happening now, there is only a small time frame of public interest for each new release. @Ars: sorry for bothering you again. I didn't understand if the save game is definitely gone or if there is a chance to continue (then without the 5000 extra coins)?
Just a question, did you know about the bug before you got it? You have been on the forums for a bit so curious.
No I didn't know about the bug when I bought the game. I bought the game on the day it was released but once I had become aware of the bug through this forum I stopped playing and decided to wait for update. Yesterday my phone crashed for no reason but it restarted with no issues. Everything is working fine on it now. I stupidly opened Puzzle Craft to see if it had been affected and that was when I was hit with the 'no string' bug. Not one of my other apps was affected. I just don't think it's right that a developer can continue to offer a game for sale knowing that there is a game breaking bug in it.
Don't be such a petulant child... Games are released with bugs all the time, both big and small. Its impossible for dev's to create the multitude of environments their app will be exposed to. There has never been a game , iOS , console , or otherwise, that has released without bugs. The devs have been consistently active in these forums ( way more than I can say for most iOS game devs). They know the problem and work hard for a solution. That is the sign of a good game - not the amount or severity of bugs present, but the dedication to eradicate them and listen to feedback. As far as your suggestion to "update their AppStore info to warn people", the bug is the exception not the rule. I haven't experienced it and most of the people NOT complaining on the forums haven't either. Should they hurt their sales and hinder their resources to fix the game (as well as make future updates) because of the minority? It WILL be fixed, so just sit tight. They have also said they are compensating players for the trouble. So chill out.
Point taken. I am aware that games are released with bugs all the time. I am also aware that the developer is doing their utmost to rectify the situation and that the update is more than likely delayed in the approval process due to the number of updates being submitted to Apple with the imminent launch of iOS6. I just think that from a PR point of view it might have been more advisable for the developers to pull the game until the update was approved. The game is getting 1 star reviews due the serious game breaking bugs that are in it. This will hurt sales. If they were to withdraw the game and then have a relaunch of the 'new and improved' game when the update is approved it would enhance the their reputation no end.
What gives you the right to insult someone who is only expressing their opinion? And how do you know that "the bug is the exception not the rule"? Just because it didn't happen to you? Most of us here have stopped playing in order to avoid the bug. What about those who don't read this forum? I agree with Mooro. Without the ability to put a warning in the appstore description (but I do believe I have seen warnings from developers in similar cases) that you may lose your game progress, the game should have been pulled until fixed.
Thanks for the back up. I usually ignore personal attacks. They don't further the debate in anyway. Usually means I've touched a nerve
I'm not sure the dev needed to go so far as to pull the app, but I have seen App descriptions be changed to add that a dev is aware of certain bugs and that a fix is in the works. I can't say for sure as I don't know Apple's policies, but I'm pretty certain devs can change descriptions without an actual update to the app itself. I've seen it numerous times. So, while I understand the fix may be getting delayed to do Apple's backlog with iOS 6, a warning to purchasers in the description could at least offset some of the backlash. The people on these forums are a very, very small percentage of those who play iOS games, so in all likelyhood they have no idea the dev has submitted a fix.
A warning at the top of the description is a really good idea. Shame someone didn't suggest it a week ago when they figured out what the problem was.
There is a note in the description letting folks know that for anyone suffering IAP problems, an update is currently on the way. EDIT: And that note has been there since the bug was discovered
Does that note have anything to do with this problem? I don't see how someone could deduce from a note about "IAP problems" that if they open the game they might lose all of their progress.
But there is no mention of the 'no string' bug that results in a player losing all of their progress in the game. That one is far more serious than the IAP bug.
Agree with this. I can cut the dev some slack for the actual bug since they discovered the root cause and submitted a fix. But if they could change the description for the IAP bug, this should also have been put there. I know about the issue and the dev's fix, but as I mentioned before, 99.99999% of App Store users wouldn't (as popular as TA is ).
Beat the campaign, kinda in a rush to just finish it by the end. Still though, fun game. First iOS game I've finished in a long time.
I have the no string bug, do I need to make a new game before updating to receive the 5.000 coins? or do I need to keep my 'no-string' game so I can get my game back like it was before the no-string bug?
I had the no string bug after completing the game ! ;( I just installed the update which makes 'fixes' and the app performs even worse than before. Not only is the no string bug not fixed, ie I don't have my game back I also go to start new game and after typing in the name, C.R.A.S.H! Even if it was fixed 5,000 coins is not nearly enough after completing the whole game to recover everything that was taken away. It was a Wonderful game but there is no way I can be positive about this any more. I'm sure the devs are working hard but I will wait when a new game comes out in the future as unfortunately this experience is not great, to be frank better testing should have been done. Sorry but this is just not a nice experience at all. If its worth anything, the gameplay was GREAT. It was my most recent favourite app on my iPad. At least I got my money's worth...
Just updated and it finally works on my iPod Touch 4. It did crash when I tried to load up my new game, BUT it works flawlessly if I run my device in Safe Mode. I guess there's some Mobile Substrate plugin or tweak I have installed that conflicts with it. No big deal.
