Uh, seems some of you are slightly delusional and think that the patch will rescue your save game. It won't, your game is gone, how they let this bug slip is beyond me because IT IS NOT RARE. If someone mentions that they copied their save file, it likely means they are jailbroken and mucking about snagging the raw files off their device. How sad is it that this is the only way to protect your game? Where is the patch? This dev should be offering a free expansion as an apology for this insanity, my wife lost her game just shy of getting the castle and she was pretty much incandescent with rage. Luckily I lost mine right after getting my castle, it still stings but I guess I am done with the game so...
You don't need to jailbreak to access your iPhone files. I use ifunbox.exe to access and edit my iPhone files.
They said they're giving everyone 5,000 gold with the update. It's definitely unfortunate that saves are all lost, and that some misinformation seems to have been put out there about this. As for where the patch is, ask Apple
Misinformation? You're one of the people who was saying that the patch might fix tue saves! And the dev never said anything about how it wouldn't. I probably could have caught up to where I was before my save was wiped if I wasn't avoiding playing it because of the hope that the patch would recall the save
BUT you may have run into the bug again, so it would have possibily been in vein. That's why no matter whether the save can be restored or not, I've stayed away from this game completely since I lost my save. Just figured why put in the effort if I might lose it all again.
Yeah I just saw what everyone else was saying and assumed it was true. I think it was all based on this post: Which I suppose could be read a couple of different ways. Anyway, I'm definitely confused as to why the devs didn't clarify earlier since people have been saying the patch would restore your game for pages in this thread.
So the update that patches the bug is out? I want to buy this, but not if my saved game will get deleted.
The update got sent to Apple awaiting approval. I would suggest buying this first since they promise a gift of 5000 coins to previous owners.
Bugs summary Hey Guys, I've said this so many times in this thread, but I will repeat it once more. Yes, we've made mistake, I understand your frustration, but bugs are already fixed and waiting in Appstore for review (Chillingo submitted update as expedited review so should be very soon). Now we want to repay you for your frustration. As an appologies from us, players who already played the game will receive additional in game money. Also there will be free additional content for free in the upcoming months. From the other hand - I don't feel very well trying to help you out and reading entries how devs should suffer for bugs. Believe me we suffer the most, because we've created good game and now part of the players cannot enjoy it. If some of you are devs you know what I'm talking about. We've put the game to the Appstore tested a lot of times and with strong believe that everything is all right, but again 50 devices vs 65k of devices is nothing to compare. The very first day after first person raported this bugs we work on them and it's done now. So, for now - let's wait for bugfix, and enjoy the game. The bottom line is that we believe we've created good game. With your help and support we can push it even more. Without your help we won't have this chance. This is my last post in this matter. I will of course help you guys if you have any questions about the game itself. Thank you all who understands for your help in this forum. All the best Bartek PS' IMPORTANT: For those with NO STRING bug. If you didn't start new game after it happen, please reset the game and start again BEFORE installing update. That way you will get additional money. Thanks.
Sometimes, no matter how much you test something, bugs slip through. It's inevitable. I helped test the Dungeons of Dredmor 1.1.10 patch, and after spending three months on it there were still bugs post-release. It's just a matter of human error combined with a lack of a big tester pool when you're an indie dev. When I was a kid, it used to be that you had to wait weeks or even months before a game got patched. Even if it was by a major developer. These days, we get a fix within a week and somehow that is still too long of a wait...what? I mean, I remember when Temple of Elemental Evil was shipped with a horrendous hard drive erasing bug. That took a few weeks to fix. And these days it takes takes Square Enix months to fix things. Blizzard has been trying to unbotch Diablo 3 for the past two months and it is still broken. Thereare still bugs sitting around in Left 4 Dead 2, years after release. Honestly, it is miraculous and really great of the devs here to be so open and communicative. Years ago when I waited for patches for my favorite game it was basically sit in silence and hope they get it done whenever. There's underappreciated old gems like Arcanum out there that never got fixed properly because the developer folded, and now the fans have to wait for volunteers with day jobs to make unofficial patches. Bethesda still insists on not including even the most obvious and basic game features in Skyrim, so modders have to do the work. And again, all of these things take lots of time. The people complaining here-- yeah I understand that it really sucks to have your progress erased. But this is a tiny team and they have literally worked at the quickest speed that is humanly possible to debug the game. Please cut them some slack. They are trying the best they can.
Just to make sure I got it right: the existing save game is definitely gone after the "no string bug"? So it is recommended to reset and start a new game and then wait for the update without actually playing the new game (to prevent the bug). After the update we can continue the new town we just started with 5000 extra coins. Or is there a plan B, where the update fixes the existing save game (if we didn't reset the game), then without the extra coins? Oh and to all PC players out there: it is a great game. A bad bug occured but will be fixed. After the update it will be an even better game. One of the best that came out in 2012!
Bartek, you've created an excellent game and I'm sure you are suffering more than us in many ways, including how this bug might be affecting sales. Obviously a developer would never knowingly release a game that would wipe our saves, but the complaints show how passionate some are about the game, only to be disappointed not being able to continue and/or having to start again. If the game was not so good, no one would care I've stopped playing and am waiting (patiently) for the fix.
I also just wanted to say a word in support of Bartek here. The sense of entitlement and expectations of some people on this board really do astound me! Of course I understand frustration, but DEMANDING these things from the developers is so incredibly rude, it makes me sad. People don't realise that these guys have put literally MAN YEARS into making this game. They have put their effort, love and creativity to make players happy and all some people do is complain. This is not a simple game (relatively speaking) and some bugs are inevitable. In fact, there are ZERO bugs as such, just a strange hardware issue that has affected a few in unusual circumstances. So Bartek, please don't take it to heart or let it destroy your enthusiasm (and thank you for approaching the subject in an open way... most bigger companies would not even have replied!)
I'm also going to jump to the defense of the developers, I not read all of this thread but going from the last few posts its clear whats going on. Skymuffin is spot on with his comments regarding patching as he said before the days we have access to the developers as we do now (yes count yourself lucky you ungracefully lot) we had to wait for a patch to hopefully come out if one every did in silence or look out for a patch on your monthly computer mag (thats how i used to get mine). The net has given us access to the developers that we never had before and developers have access to large number people that they simply couldnt afford too. With tech moving so fast today there comes a point where a game develop has to stop and its released to the general public so while the game would of been working say month ago before release something could of come out that throws a spinner in the works. Be thankfully that the developers are working to fix the bug thats coped up, i known many games over the years that where released with bugs and the developers simply didn't brother to fix them or as skymuffin said comment went to the wall. This people are not machines they are human people after all, and some missed code in 100's and 100's of lines can be easily missed i know i done it myself when typing in line after line of basic only to find i just of put a ",," in stead of a "..". My finally view on this is "if you can do a better job then i like to see you try" So once again stop all this complaining and wait for the patch to arrive at lest they are doing something about and for that i say well done and on also making what is a great game even better.
From a Chillingo perspective I think these are great posts. The guys at Ars Thanea, and our team here have been working round the clock to get this fixed for everyone from the moment we realised there was a bug. It's worth remembering that if our players are having a bad time then so are we! We don't want people turning away from the game so please trust me when I say we're doing all we can to get the fix through asap! Appreciate your patience!
Sorry but what do you call the thing that gives a null string and wipes out your 30 hours savegame? Do you even play this game? When players purchase Puzzle Craft, they don't expect a glitch that destroys the manhours they spent on this game. A working, bug free app is a simple demand, no? Why is it rude when you request for what you paid? The developers won't have to reply to anything if this hasn't happened. There would be no need for customer service if your product works as intended. Just put yourself in the player shoes and tell me your reply was justified. It's literally a slap in the face when you load up your game and find out all your hardwork is for null. Thanking the developers for a good game is one thing but defending them for a game-breaking bug? Really? Note: I am one of the lucky ones that did not encounter the null-string savegame wiping bug. If you were thinking of purchasing Puzzle Craft, I would highly suggest you to do so. PC is an amazing match 3 village SIM. However, avoid playing it until the update comes. You get some cash for being an early adopter and not risk having your savegame wiped.
