Sorry if this is the wrong forum. Not sure if it includes native apps.

I'm looking for a new email account that supports push active sync. As some of you will be aware, mail2web use to offer this for free, but now they are charging. I'm looking for a good alternative, either free, or reasonably priced. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Gmail doesn't push email. I have a gmail account set up as well as the mail2web account.

It synchronizes calender and contacts. Not email.

Of course Apple's MobileMe would work, but I don't know if this could be considered "reasonably priced".

I totally recommend MobileMe for what you get. It's so worth it for me. Especially if you use iLife on your mac. Push email rocks

You can buy Mobile Me on Ebay for half what Apple asks for it. I just picked up a renewal for $46, and I had the guy just email me the code so I didn't even have to pay for shipping.

    I was using mail2web too.
Now I'm trying the free 2 months of MobileMe, which is working well (with the added plus that you can personalize the SMTP server to be almost invisible if your primary account is another one, like Gmail).
Another (free) option is Yahoo (or Ymail) which is offering free push on the iPhone.
WHEN is working, it works really well and their servers are really fast (faster than Gmail and MobileMe in my experience); unfortunately you can get some black hole hours when your email is not pushed at all (seems random, you can find many reports on the Internet).
If it had worked realiably, I was tempted to switch completely from Gmail to Yahoo.
I'm doing all this just waiting Google activating push email (they already push calendar and contacts)...but it seems it's taking ages to have push email from Google.

Sign up for Yahoo. They been pushing enailbto iPhone from day one. It works and is free. You could also forward your other emails to yahoo and then get them all pushed to you.

    Did it work reliably?
I'm using Yahoo too now, but it's not reliable (unfortunately): sometimes mails are pushed 1-2 hours later.
I've tried every 'solution' find on the web but still...there is a huge thread on Apple forums regarding this issue (some blame Apple, some blame Yahoo).
I've reset the account countless times, did a new one, etc..etc...
Did it worked flawelessy from day one to you or did you did something particoular?

    Many thanks.

BTW: MobileMe has some problems too; it's very slow in marking read the emails read from the web site (the iPhone show the mails unread even for 2 hours if you do not enter mail.app manually).
Yahoo is the fastest one for sure in both pushing (when it works) and marking read.
It's the fastest SMTP too (sending emails).

Yahoo works for me about 95% of the time. Once in a while, I will have to do a manual refresh and found that I missed a bunch of emails in the last few hours.

    Thanks for all the advice.
I set up a yahoo account. Yesterday it worked fine, today it doesn't seem to be pushing at all. I might just set up 15 minutes fetch, although this might be a big battery drainer.

I wish I was that lucky...
Honestly I prefer Yahoo over the other solutions (now I'm using Yahoo) despite MobileMe allow to mask the SMTP server and Mail2Web was more reliable (but it used the only one possible exchange server in iPhone).
Obviously I'm not using it for work or capital things, but having an instant and reliable push is crucial for usign Beejive or other IM in 'background' till firmware 3.0.

Usually when I have problem with Yahoo push mail, I would do the following and it would fix the problem. On the iphone, go into Mail, and then hold the HOME button until mail exits. This shutdown the mail app and will restart it fresh the next time.

    I never tried this 'fix'.
Thank you...I'll try asap (now Yahoo seems to work...longest delay was 10 minutes).
