EDIT RE-EDIT: I should have written the second-to-last last paragraph first.

Hmm...difficult to say. You could keep prices as is and increase the coin drop rate; as it is, the coin doubler isn't much use right now. If you want people to continue grinding, there has to be a carrot on the stick...the player has to feel as if he/she is able to make SOME progress without paying extra.

What complicates matters is the fact that the pricing structure of in-app items as well as the price of the app has fluctuated. So making Spartan mode an iap would piss off those who bought it with coins, even if it remained enabled if previously purchased (as someone who is often short on space and therefore deletes and reinstalls apps often, I HATE HATE HATE when devs pull this stunt). Might have annoyed people who've bought coins or coin doublers.

In short, I'm not sure. I can't recall how many coins were included in the coin iaps as of launch; that has to be taken into consideration. Have those purchases been rendered useless? Most importantly, useless for those who took a long break in playing, and have just stumbled onto the updated prices?

Charging an "unlock" fee would, IMO, take away from the gameplay.

I understand you undercharged at the beginning, and I'm more forgiving to you guys than I have been to others (cough, Everplay, cough, Madfinger...no rewards for being a paying customer becuase I deleted it to make room) because you are attempting to make money, not generate a new revenue stream from existing customers.

I would say that anything priced in 6 digits is too high; freemium game players (of REAL games, not Facebook style bullhockey) at least like to "believe" they can achieve something.

What IS the model? Jetpack Joyride made tons of dough despite everything being achievable theough gameplay. I wish you guys luck.

Err, if the prices stayed the same but an average run for lousy players like myself generated about 2.5x the number of coins, that might be about right. With a 5x multiplier (when the coin doubler is purchased), that would work out to me earning about 1500 coins a run...and what, 200 runs for one hat?

Here's my best bet: Throw in a slot machine/wheel of fortune like Pizza vs. Skeletons, Jetpack Joyride, Super Mole Escape, etc. Even if it USUALLY gives a small reward, it will still encourage players to keep on truckin'

Last point? Would it be possible for coins to transfer across devices via icloud sync/whatever it's called (just got an iPad mini)? Using the same bank of coins, of course. That way I could switch to my (now) primary device. Coins spent would still dissappear when spent in my scenario, but I wouldn't be forced to choose 1 device, essentially, to play on. I understand that may cause problems if someone runs the app simultaneously on 2 devices, that's why I ask if it's possible.

That's kinda my average too and except for ultra belts and hats with abilities I have every power up. Anyway my best score (won't be bothered to check now but it was like top 5%) was when I had almost no power ups long ago so my guess would be that the difficulty is kinda random. Or maybe I just suck too :p

Try getting a hat with either dull pain or hungry man imo that is the most powerful upgrade you can get. The combination of dull pain and hungry man gets me to lvl 20+ a lot more than with just one of those. Is this just me?

With hungry man and dull pain combo I get to level 20+ almost every time with my best being level 29 or 30 and gotten over 500k score several times.

    NO. Please no second currency.

...what are gnomey rewards? Completing quests or something else? In all honesty I haven't followed this thread closely (rarely do with any threads for that matter...) and gnomey's ultimate purpose still confuses me. Is he just in the game because everyone loves garden gnomes? Is he a deus ex machina; providing guidance in an otherwise senseless (in a good way) game? Don't tell me unless it helps flesh out the gameplay mechanics more:)

There are 3 quests active each time you play f.e. break 5 vases, defeat 25 hallucinations, defeat 20 imps. The progress you make is saved so you don't have to complete them in one go. I break 2 vases the first time i play, second time i break 3: total is 5 so i completed one of the quests now gnomey gives me a reward for the vases this is 250 punchos. The harder these quests are the more punchos you receive the possibilities are 250, 500, 750 and 1000. After completing a quest you get a new one this is an infinite process. So you complete the same set of quests over and over of course there are more than 3 don't know the exact amount.
Gnomey is the first gnome, completing a quest also gives you experience which makes him gain levels. After gnomey reaches lvl 50 he gives you a reward of 10000 punchos for helping him reach god lvl. He ascends into the clouds and another gnome takes his place. This new gnome is essentially the same as the previous he gives you the same quests and the same amount of punchos for quests and also the same reward for helping him reach godhood. The order is Gnomey, Dnomey, Cnomey, Bnomey, and Anemone. This is also an infinite process after Anemone reaches godhood Gnomey takes his place and everything starts over, it never stops. These gnomes also give you tips and say funny things..

Ok, here's one problem with the pricing as it currently stands (just played a bit). For 5 bucks, you get 250,000 Punchos. The descriptions says, roughly, "with this package you can buy a lot of hats". That 5 dollars would buy you ONE hat, and 1 of the cheaper tier 3 moves.

Or, that 5 dollars is the cost to unlock the new mode.

1 million punchos for 15 bucks gets you 1,000,000 punchos. That's one belt, an unlock for the new mode, and a hat. A hat.

I love you guys, but that's just silly...and I don't intend to offend.

I know about the quests, but how do you ascertain Gnomey's level?

All the perks cost tens of thousands now as well. I know I played this game a lot less than some here, so many long time players aren't seeing the current prices.

What are you talking about, you can buy tons of HATS for that amount. Ultrahats aren't just HATS though. They are divine creations of the gnome-gods.

At the end of each game it is shown what quests are active and your progress towards the goal. Just above the quests theres a progress bar to the left of it there's shown what lvl your gnome is LVL X/50.
The hats have an intrinsic tier 1 skill so they enable you to have two tier 1 powers at once. As i stated before being able to combine hungry man and dull pain is one of the MOST useful things in the game.

If it's an Ultra hat those are different than the normal hats they cost 200K and can be found in Shop->Customize->Ultra Items->Ultra hats if you bought one of the slots it should give you a random hat if you select it there's some info. The last part is important With FREE ... . Where the points are a randomly selected tier 1 power.

That might be interesting, actually (all belts the same cost, but you still have to buy a bunch). Still a lot of money, but more attainable via grinding that way.

Not sure on the reroll price reduction. They used to cost 50k, but they used to have only a 20% chance of giving a skill. 50k with 100% chance is a huge change.

We were thinking about something like this, but a lot of people really hated the dual currency idea so we didn't do it.

We're putting Spartan down to 150k in the update, it was too high before. Ultra Hats also go back down to 150k. Gnome reward is going back up to 25k, so that means more coins per cycle too. We do plan to tweak belt prices some, but maybe not with this update. The thing preventing us is that we forgot to add tracking to see how many people were buying belts.

We won't be changing the IAP coin amounts again. Mostly we'll be adjusting prices down of items. Will think about that drop. One problem we have is that I intentionally made it so consumables weren't that strong compared to other games, because I wanted skill to matter the most. We could always try making the consumables stronger, but I don't like the idea much. In other games, you *need* those consumables for high scores. In ours, you probably really want a good belt and ultrahat, instead. But that's really a one-time purchase...

They had consumables to fall back on. Also, they made Fruit Ninja, which kind of lets them do whatever they want afterwards. They can drive massive numbers.

Messing with the coin rates aren't possible, in either direction. Going up devalues the IAP coins. It's just way easier to lower prices in that case, which increases the value of both IAP and grinding.

We were thinking about doing a wheel spin. Not quite sure how that would work, though.

We didn't do coin syncs originally because of the possible issues with exploiting and conflicts. iCloud is really a mess. Sometimes it just doesn't work due to something on Apple's end, or it works oddly for the same reason, and then it's just a nightmare.

Long post. Anyway we'll figure this pricing stuff out eventually.

Everything in your post sounds good to me :p when are you planning to submit this update? I also saved up 250k for the spartan mode but now it's going down to 150 that 100k i save could almost get me an ultra hat. Hmm not sure i can wait much longer to try it out :D.
