The image is the GOATICORN. The new egg you can run into.

Despite jakeb16's question being answered like 100 pages ago (and 3 posts under the original question):

Horse Mode and H.A.T.Z system are jokes.

The secret HORSE mode is probably a reference to Tony Hawk Pro Skater. H.A.T.Z is a Fallout 3 reference (Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System - V.A.T.S)

HORSE mode is partially tony hawk pro skater, but also way back I wanted to do a mode where the background was replaced with photos of horses. Didn't have time though. H.A.T.Z. is partially Fallout 3, but also just because I like completely unexplained acronyms.

We could probably mess with the prices more for belts and hats, just need to figure out what a good price is for both. Listening to suggestions on this if they're specific, "It's too expensive" doesn't help us much, really, unless it's backed up with more exact price suggestions.

In the future I think I'd like to do more of a big daily reward type of thing. Like play 5 minutes a day for a week to unlock the next thing, play for a few hours a day on top of that to unlock things twice as fast. That seems much more balanced for long-grind items, things still take awhile to get but it's not so out of reach. Though I think it's too late to do that in Punch Quest, as its easiest to do this with dual currencies (which people said they didn't want added).

I'll preface this by saying I'm not a developer and may not be fully grasping what you're thinking, but it seems to me this idea could still be done with in-game currency or rewards. A certain number of punchos would be an obvious reward toward those long grind items, but others could be credits toward those one-time powerups (armor hearts, quest skips, etc.) or hat reroll credits. Maybe even cosmetic benefits like a hat only obtained in one of those manners. Those examples wouldn't be a secondary currency to obtain something otherwise unobtainable (aside from the purely cosmetic hat idea), but a perk.

The closest comparison I can think of is that sword you obtain in Fruit Ninja by playing a zen mode game for 5 consecutive days. Just a cosmetic perk, but it sure did get me to play 5 days straight.

Solid article on the PA Report about PQ, Kepa. Very thoughtful, well-argued, nicely supported with facts and experience, and educational to boot. Well done, and I hope everyone reads it!

After years of lurking, Punch Quest finally inspired me to create a forum account. This game has taken hold of me more than any other game I can recall in recent memory. I've probably spent more hours playing PQ over the past few months than I have just about all my other ios games combined. I picked it up when it first launched free (after seeing the preview on TA Plays), and must have spent at least $40 on IAP by now (to buy Enter the Fray @ $15k/pop when I'm feeling lazy).

It is hard to put my finger on what exactly is so attractive to me about PQ. I think it must be the perfect balance of luck and skill required to master the game. To have a truly legendary run or combo you need a little bit of luck on your side. But all the luck in the world isn't gonna help you if you're skills aren't up to the challenge. So you have to keep playing and practicing and perfecting those skills, so when your chance at an amazing run comes along, you dont blow it (because there is nothing worse than that). And there is still a little element of strategy to it as well--you need to pick your skills carefully, make sure they compliment each other, and know where and when (and not when) to use them, The game appears so simple at first but there is a huge amount of complexity beneath the surface.

OK now I really need to stop the fanboy gushing. I wanted to mention my only small complaint/suggestion: please please please make idols a part of Cloud Sync!!!

I totally understand why Punchos can't sync across devices--if they did people would spend them twice. However, I see no such problem with idols. Is there any reason not to sync them that I'm missing?

I've spent the past few months playing on my iphone, and have collected almost 1000 idols (but only 1 pure idol, damnit!). Recently I fired up my old ipad and gave the game a run on the big screen. It is a lot of fun on the ipad also, and I'd love to be able to keep using it--but the thought of starting my idol collection over from zero is horrifying.

If there is any way that idols could sync I would be eternally grateful (though my overall productivity might suffer as a result).

Anyway, that's my $0.02. Thanks so much for not only making such an amazing game, but for hanging here in the forums and engaging with your users. It really makes a huge difference in how people perceive the game--you give it a personal touch that so many other games lack. It does not go unnoticed.

jontas, thanks! Hmm, yes I should probably sync the idols, no harm in that. It's on the todo list.

Ahh that article was great but also kind of upsetting. I feel like being the kind of company you guys are atleast gives you a stronger dedicated fanbase. Similar to how Seth Killian keeps Capcom's fighting game community connected to their games. There's really no other way to explain how they manage to sell the same game 4 times and still have people wanting a fifth.

Anyways I'll continue to support you guys in any/all your upcoming game releases. And I agree that you should definitely try that LoL style of iap and if you add in a mini-preview system for the iap along with some form of multiplayer or just some way of not feeling alone I'm certain it would be a success. Even like local multiplayer would be fine since so many people have iPhones and it would be easy to get em to download it and play together.

We could probably do one-time powerup credits if we revamped the boost menu some. Maybe made it more like Extreme Road Trip 2. Free hat rerolls is a fun idea too. We did cosmetic rewards in Hook Worlds, didn't really seem to be that popular. Plus we ran out of space to add new hats in Punch Quest, anyway.

I'm glad you appreciate the game! That's exactly what we were going for, an outwardly simple game with a lot of depth.

Making idols a part of cloud sync was planned, we just forgot about it for awhile.

For the Hook games, I think it's because we were the only people that make such games. It was pretty much our own exclusive genre. Plus they were all pretty different.

Mini-preview system: For "Mage Dungeon", we were originally going have a "free class of the day" that rotated. But we cancelled this because we thought it may be confusing, plus LoL actually offers like 10 free classes per week, not 1. So what I'm thinking now is having a "daily challenge" that has a class associated with it, even if you haven't unlocked that class. So it will be both a mini-preview and a daily currency bonus.

Multiplayer: We're going to try to make our first PC game co-op multiplayer. After that, we can try making an iPhone game that at least has local. In Punch Quest, we also wanted to add seeing signs of your friends in the dungeon. Just haven't gotten to it yet.

    WHAT?! NOOOOOOOOO!

In all seriousness, why is there no more space for hats in Punch Quest?

This is an aweome idea, and usually the first (and only) thing I suggest the few times I take an interest in an endless runner/puncher/crawer/jetpacker/jumper/humper.

There are only so many bits available to stuff data into Game Center scores... so we can display other player's characters. That limits how many hats, hairs, colours, etc. can be shown. Otherwise, there'd be no limits to the potential hatness.

Blasted Gamecenter! And there is no way around that if we want to see everyone else's avatar, huh?

Almost makes me want to see a plain list of scores if that translates to oodles and ooddles of hats and stuff. :)

Oh, there's always a way. I'd have to come up with a new compressed avatar data structure and detect whether it was using the old or new one in the scores. And this would be all wonky for people using older builds of punch quest that couldn't interpret the new avatar data structure.

My friend said, "hey garcia1000, people aren't agreeing with you about goaticorn being low scoring, because you haven't shown an understanding of high level play."

So I thought what if maybe I got #1 score then would they listen to me maybe. Also, brag time!!!!!!

FINALLY got my first ultrahat... It's such a buzzkill. I was hoping on a fancy tophat or something, but it turned out to be a Narwhal vintage specs of FLASH, with the "Quick Slam" ability.
Sure, it's better than nothing, but I turned into a freaking unicorn. With vintage specs.
