The top portion of my post was directed at the poster (tied to a great modern gaming series)... The rest, was a blanket statement geared toward the inevitable onslaught of stupidity and pricing inquiries and ridicule/cheapness that will ensue once school let's out for the kiddies and such. Hence, generalized blanket statement about cheaping out and incessant whining on games that cost a mere $7...
gameplay video comming in an hour or two (or three, depending on youtube). I'll just say this: The controlls don't always do what you want.
You know what, no one is arguing about the price. I simply inquired is it worth the 7 dollars for an iOS game? Seeing that there are so many excellent games out there, priced the same . I have no problem paying a measley 7 bucks. Let's not compare console to iOS, big difference.
Your an ignorant fool. This is an iOS forum. Get off your high horse. No one wants to hear your ridiculous rants. If you like Mass effect so much, open up your own fan club, fanboy !! Did you read my other posts. Your ignorance is laughable !! btw, no one is being stupid. Just curious.
I can't answer in terms of its worth it to you or not, but I - someone who has played no Mass Effect games - am enjoying this. The auto-aim annoys me for one reason only: I was shooting at an enemy and two others came up in front. I unloaded a clip into the first guy's face and it did nothing, because I wasn't aiming at him. Apart from that, I haven't had issues with the controls. Walking left and right (strafing) kinda sucks. I haven't been doing much of it, but when I wanted to, it sucks. I had to learn to push forward on the left stick and turn with the right, rather than what I normally do. The shooting is actually rather fun, and if you're the kind that will replay sections to get the high score and max credits, you'll find a lot to like here. I rather like the story, but the start feels very Dead Space-y. I haven't played DS for more than 10/15 minutes though, so no further comments there.
Funny thing is no one was really making a price argument (honestly I think we're all pretty much cool with a 7 dollar price tag on a game), people were just wondering if it was worth it (as in if it was actually any good). Then a couple of righteous fanboys decided to chime in and make it about price. "oh you don't just download this immediately because it has ME in the title? You must be cheap, you should quit gaming." Fact is, from a perspective detached from the ME series (I don't play the console games), this doesn't exactly seem like anything special, original or great. Sure it'll do well because 7 bucks isn't much, and graphics without content (IB for example) tends to lead to success on iOS.
its reason like this why im glad i got a ps vita & a ios device cause you cant really think your gonna get top notch graphics, action,& depth for just 7$ ,im just happy there is actually a decent mass effect game on ios period
There's a very thick line between 'not worth 7 bucks' and 'I do not like this genre'. Would one say a game such as Mass Effect 3 is 'not worth £40/US equivalent' because one does not like that genre of games? No. So when I see a game with ridiculously high production values, amazing graphics, and what seems to be a substantial, lengthy, console-worthy game in front of me, and people are questioning whether this should have a value of $7 confuses me so. Why do you think they sell Ghost Trick etc for only $10 when they originally sold for and are worth a lot more than that. The iOS market, that's why. And until even the core gamer market such as the one on TA can be willing to buy or at least appreciate games of a higher value, then we cannot expect the casual gamers to follow suit and for iOS gaming to develop. Oh, and I do not like Mass Effect at all for the record. It just pains me that a game like this that would go for upwards of £15 on PSN/XBLA 'is not worth £4' on iOS.
Calm down dears, it's only an ios game! I'm liking the look of this so will defo pick it up once it hits the Uk. 'is it worth $7', or whatever.... It's a valid question to ask imo. In the context of the appstore where some of the best titles are avail for a lot less. Each to their own i guess... Anyway, thanks for the early impressions/vids, i'm sold
Well, I would say yes. I don't eat almonds. To me a bag of almonds isn't worth a dime, but I see them sell for much more than a dime frequently. Am I supposed to inhabit another person's body so I can assess their value from another perspective? No, all we have is our own experience, taste and opinions. To me, this game does not seem to stand out from other games like it iOS enough for me to buy it. It's not that I don't like the genre at all, just that I don't care enough to have every game representing it on my device. So far impressions, screenshots and videos have not shown me any reason to want this game. If you're excited about it, that's great. I understand what you're saying, I think you just picked the wrong battle. I have almost every top tier priced iOS game out there. This one just doesn't interest me, and I never said it wasn't worth 7 bucks to someone who would enjoy it. I would not have even bothered posting in this thread had it not been for that first post I replied to which just seemed ridiculous, and begged for a response.
In my original post when I mentioned is it worth 7 bucks. In retrospect I should have rephrased that question to "is it worth purchasing for a person that pretty much has all the top, FPS, TPS games on iOS" I didn't think I was going to start a flame war over pricing because to me, the price isn't the issue. I wanted to hear impressions about the gameplay and is it comparable to an iOS masterpiece like Dead Space. Also, it's the style of game that doesn't have me sold. I like a shooter, where you can actually shoot the guns, Not a tap to aim, where shooting is automatic. More than likely I'll end up buying it and judging for myself.
Jeeze... Some of you guys have been hanging around here together for so long your cycles have synced up!
You have clarified yourself a lot better now so I see where you're coming from; still I believe you've missed the point on production values etc dictating a game's overall, neutral value and that regardless of taste (personally I'm not that excited for this) a game like this with expensive production values, long lifespan and pedigree has more value than something you may play once, has generic doodle graphics or any of the other stereotypes of the iOS market as a whole. This is the sort of thing that won't be solved easily through a medium of text so I will graciously end this argument for this reason, and because it seems many hypocrites criticize others for having the right to argue and contribute to the discussions focusing on this thread without adding any significant discussion points either. Similarly to (if you live in England) people complaining about people posting a status update on snow on Facebook, it seems on a public forum, the people who complain about others using the service and arguing are more annoying than those arguing themselves. Good day.
There is a difference between saying that something is not to your taste and saying that something is "BS garbage." Well, at least grown ups can tell the difference . The example you gave is appropriate: you can justifiably say that you hate almonds, that they make you puke, that they offend your palate. The moment you call then garbage, however, I stop taking you seriously (since, as it happens, I love almonds). When you say almonds are "garbage," you are implying that I love garbage. And that's not cool at all.
the writing in the game can be sooooo bad when it comes to Paragon - Renegade decisions: *Player walks into room with random person* "Hello, where's Anali?" - chooses Paragon - "Leave, you're lucky" HE DIDN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION OR ANYTHING. WHY DID YOU LET HIM LEAVE WITHOUT ANSWERING?? - chooses Renegade - *Player just shoots him* "Everyone dies" So, WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THAT? AGAIN, YOU DIDN'T GAIN ANYTHING FROM THAT. (Note: no matter what you choose, the voice acting doesen't fit)
So, I'm guessing you're not liking the game as much as you expected? Out of 10, how would you rate the game overall?
I'm enjoying it after the 5 minutes I played. At a glance it looks like it has decent length. About 9 chapters it appears. Customization is nice. I liked the customization offered in DS but 3 suits wasn't enough. This one has multiple armor sets and helmets you can mix and match (most look pretty cool). Lots of abilities and different things to upgrade. I'm only disappointed there aren't more weapons. Basically one of each type of weapon.
I'm not him, but overall I'd give it a 7 with a subtitle: "Getting there" There are issues, but I'm still enjoying myself. Oh, and it's Elani. I think. If I remember correctly. Probably should check.
