*Spoilers (in white)* (quote) Why does it matter that Vandal is actually Karrie, a girl? -It doesn't matter at all. Most of us assumed it was a guy.. (/quote) Yup I don't think the surprise at the end was really about the main protagonist being female. I think people were more surprised about it being a nod to the Metroid series. In the original Metroid on the NES, they had a similar ending revealing that Samus Aran was female. Which was a surprise ending in the world of gaming back in 1986 when the game was new. Having this game reference that, was more of a "Gotcha!" moment from the developers, than anything else. (at least to me, it was) *End Spoilers*
Just read the plot of DS and DS2 on wikia, definitely some very interesting stuff. Not going to bother replaying the iOS version though. I can definitely say it was an incredible experience in any case.
Hands down one of the most memorable gaming experiences I have ever had regardless of platform. Not to hard, not to easy, not frustrating, great story telling, great twists, stunning graphics, spot on controls. If anyone out there has not played this game through you are not doing yourself justice. The polish, attention, and LOVE given to this game is far and few between. You are lucky to get 1-3 a year of this quality. To EA, Vis Games thank you so very much for some of the best 4-6 hours of gaming in a long long time.
Discussion about Tyler in white: Me too I'd be very happy to see sizzlin hot Karrie again. But if you think about it, since Radikov is usually the protagonist in the games, and seeing now that he used Karrie as bait to sabotage the Sprawl, would they be enemies if Karrie would be back? I'd love to see Karrie kick anybody's ass in future games. I hope EA's next iOS Dead Space we'll have Karrie Norton again. Oh, and the Marker in white here in iOS totally looks stunning.
I clocked a piece of the white text spoilers, must have been the angle of my iMac (I still willingly read it), but one confirmed my earlier post from last week about some arse on the App Store mentioning a spoiler in his review ... well, the one line spoiler was his review. I didn't know if it was true, but it's been confirmed here. In a way, the spoiler on the App Store review stuck in my mind regardless. How Apple allow some of the reviews to get through on the App Store is beyond me.
i feel so stupid for asking this question. i am suck in the initial tutorial of the game. i got into the room that teaches me how to twist the weapon and it gives me the task of destroying three power boxes. When i enter the server room i see the first two as soon as i open the door. after that i cannot for te life of me find the third one. what the hell is wrong with me?
You said this is one of the most memorable gaming experiences you've had regardless of platform. DS 1+2 are both better than this yet they weren't even that good lmao...
DS1 and 2 are amazing in my opinion, and the almost universally fantastic reviews would support that even if the high sales and large fan base didn't. Check the reviews for DS1 and 2 on Metacritic to see how great most reviewers think they are.
so you haven't played ANY dead space have you? lol DS is the best experience on handhelds since MGS and GoW on PSP... IMO, and DS on consoles 1&2 are the best horror games, and superb games overall no matter the genre...
I have only played this and the PC version of DS1. I love them all for great actions and atmosphere, but I don't think that is "horror". Below is just my $0.02. In DS, I have some high-tech "tools" that chop monsters into many fragments, so they do not scare me or make me run, except on very few occasions they sneak from behind. On the other hand, I share with many that ripping off limbs is intense, twisted fun, and hordes of them become somewhat I would refer as troublesome -- I know the highest difficulty setting is another game, but you need to go through many iterations to get there... I guess I would call DS-series tense due to the unknown atmosphere the gamer constantly facing. Oh BTW, ZP makes a very good comparison in one of his review on what "survival horror" is. The only game on iOS I find the need to run, even with some heavy firepower handy, is Aftermath. It is a very tense survival game, the atmosphere is no less, but the faces of the monsters are just too tiny to be horrifying...
Fatal Frame 1 + 2 gave me scares... DS did not... Might be that I was in my teens when I played FF... and 26 when I played the first DS... Not saying the atmo isn't creepy... But even the first FEAR gave me a scare in my 20's... As for this iOS version, I didn't get one scare... Then again, I had run through DS 1 at least 15 times before deleting it from my comp... Just seems the iOS version didn't bring anything new to the table... It was the same experience as DS 1, IMO... For real scares I think it's better the less you reveal (which is why the first FEAR really got to me...)
I think Dead Space vs Fatal Frame is like ALIEN(S) vs RINGU: Two different genres of horror. I'm myself never that scared of monsters we can shoot at like in ALIEN(S) and Dead Space. For me, scary films are films like Ringu, Ju-on, (the original japanese version of The Ring and The Grudge respectively, which are much better than the hollywood versions), Rosemary's Baby and The Omen (1976). However, Dead Space is in a different genre, it's a sci-fi horror like ALIEN(S) and a great one at that. Whether or not that genre is the one that scares me or you the most is more of a personal taste
I find the Dead Space series to be very creepy, but then again I never played many horror games because I can't stand the awful control in most of them.
Well, it's all subjective isn't it; we've all got different likes and dislikes. I've played Dead Space 1 and the iOS version and I have to say as good as ds1 was, I've enjoyed playing the game on my iPod far more. To me, playing it on a mobile device with headphones is just so immersive - and it was such a joy to play a game of such quality on my iPod. And I think the iOS version is better because of the shorter length - I think survival horror needs to be played in 'short sharp shocks' - personally my nerves had problems playing dead space on my xbox after a while. It just went on too long! But praps that's just me being a bit older than most of the people on this forum!
