lol for reals? Thats funny. I keep hearing how this game controls are stiff, but does the graphics and gameplay still make up for it?
release it in Germany. the fact that german national football team is better than NE's should not influence the release of EA games by EA NE in Germany.
lol, yeah. He said, "That's a video of the PS3 game, and it looks sharper cause it's on a small screen". His face when I started moving Vandal around was a picture. And the stiff controls do not ruin the game ... at all.
I'm a bit confused by the 'stiff controls' people are mentioning. I think the control system works like a dream - better than most ios shooters. And you're meant to be a mining engineer using ordinary tools, not a souped-up space marine - so the controls should make it a bit more frantic when the combat heats up. Dead Space 1 was exactly the same. I seriously can'y believe I'm playing such a comprehensive, atmosoheric and quality game on my ipod touch 2g....
This game is way too creepy for me. They did a very good job with the lighting and the music... The only way I can play this is in full daylight and no headphones.
TouchArcade To be honest the Touch Arcade review made the game seemed like it was 6.5/10 or 7/10 at best, which really seemed biased and unfair. EA really went above and beyond with this release, it is certainly a bigger achievement than just about any other iOS games out there, even in the control department. If all EA did was port over the "greatest moments" or whatever shit other big companies are doing with a half assed game engine, it would have probably been a big deal already if it manages to capture that console experience in some way. But the Dead Space team didn't stop there; they created the game from ground up, along with an awesome original plot that's cannon to the series, high quality game script with high quality voice overs, an amazing score to go with the package, at just $7 (which is, by the way, less than $9 you pay for Secret of Mana). The author for the Dead Space review even commented on how he was unable to outrun a Brute, not realizing that was intentional by design (as per the first game, you need to run circles around the environment and or using stasis to beat it). Sure at 7/10 it is still a recommended buy, but credit should be given when credit is due, and EA deserves that credit. Dead Space iOS is the best thing to have happened on the iOS platform, and should be praised as such. Perhaps TA should stick to raving about Angry Birds and continue raving about retro ports from the 90s.
hats off to you and everyone at EA and Visceral for making such a fantastic game! You've raised the bar on ios...
I don't think "biased and unfair" means what you think it means. Again, we recommended purchasing the game. I guess you can divine whatever rating you want out of the review though, but that does seem a little weird. If we would have just mindlessly drooled all over it in our review, instead of people like you posting that we were too hard on it, we'd have an army of people complaining we were too easy on it... So we really can't win, no matter what we do. I highly encourage you to read this post if you're confused why we said one of the negatives were the controls.
I thought the review was fine and perfectly fair. I think a lot of people stop reading half way through so they really only read a lot of the negative stuff without reading through the last part where you guys recomend buying the game.
@Hodapp: Sure you recommend purchasing the game, I am just saying that's not enough credit given. I understand the complaint about the controls, absolutely, but the slightly-not-as-good-but-totally-workable-controls weren't the only thing that was negative about the review. For a game of this quality, it deserves more praise than these "minor issues". Even speaking strictly with regards to the controls, it is definitely still better than majority of the games TA deemed acceptable. Aralon, Resident Evil, to name a few. Look, if it was Chrono Trigger ported to iOS, you guys would be all over it. When a big company made a brand new, iOS exclusive title with a near perfect console experience no less, it should be praised as such.
I'm seeing some familiar names in the list of winners for EA's Dead Space Trivia contest. Congrats IMNS!
More like, they got to the second paragraph. Same here man, I chickened out playing the dark and played it in a room full of people in the daytime..and was still scared as hell. Those things popping out at the best/worst times..my god. I can't imagine how I'd be if I actually went through and played it in the dark last night like I thought I would..I'm terribly afraid of anything even remotely scary.
I agree with Hodapp, i think, but this is a great game, just like dead space, but there a few, not so much obstructive, but still noticeable, issues with controls and other parts of the game. But honestly, it was hard for EA to make it perfect, we all seem to forget, no matter how amazing an idevice is, well its still an idevice. Me personally, im quite pleased with the experience and hope to see more great titles of this quality from EA.
One word: AMAZING - This game blows your mind! This is definitely the best game out on iphone at the moment ..to all german users: Buy an itunes gift card and get this f***ing awesome game!
Likewise bud. I'm a wuss when it comes to horror/suspense movies or games, lol. I was sitting in bed next to my wife, who was on the phone to a friend at the time, and at the end of chapter 2 I let out this loud, "Ghaaaaah"! My fright gave her a fright, it was a comedy moment.
Too bad I bought this... haha hopefully I win that iPad though. Although I have an iPhone 4 and iPad 2 is coming out in a couple months, well it would still be freaking amazing!
