Man, just played through 2 chapters - I'm not disappointed at all. I was worried I was going to think $7 was too much for this, but I was wrong, and I'm very, very glad.

It feels exactly like I would expect it to feel - like Dead Space on my phone. It's not the full experience of the console game, but that doesn't make it bad. I realize my phone has limitations - for god sakes, it's a phone. The fact that I can play Dead Space at all on it amazes me sometimes. :)

The controls are well done, I think - aiming during combat is a bit tough. I wish the Necromorphs were a bit slower - it feels like you can aim one shot before they're on top of you, and they need 3 to be taken down (on normal), meaning that you're almost certainly going to get hit at least once before you kill it. Fortunately you replenish health fairly quickly, and don't have to scrounge for health packs like you do in the game.

Everything is very accessible, and not intrusive at all, just like on the console version. To reload you tap on the display on your weapon - to fire stasis you tap the stasis meter on your back. The display is very clean, and very easy to both see what's going on, which is excellent, given the amount of real estate you're working with.

The sound design is excellent, as I would expect from this game. More than anything, I think that's what set the console game apart, and I would have been very disappointed if they had not made it work here. Unfortunately, on the 3GS, the headphone jack gets in the way of my hand, and I didn't think to try and turn my phone upside down, so I don't know if you can rotate the screen to put it at the upper right, where it might be less in the way. As a result, I played with the phone speakers on, and I didn't think it detracted at all. I could feel the rumbling as I walked, and hear the dragging and scurrying as the bad guys ran towards me.

All in all, I think it's an excellent game, well worth the money. I can't wait to see what the rest of the game has in store for me.

Only 10 minutes in, but man I'm really enjoying this game so far. Lots of details with the presentation - voicework, soundtrack, graphics (like when bloody scrawled words suddenly appear on the walls like Metal Gear Solid) are awesome. And yeah, there are a couple moments that make you jump a little (if you're wearing headphones). Controls are good but they need an update that let's you swipe to turn the camera quicker (would be much easier than double tapping the character to do a 180.

If this represents EA's new commitment to its games on the iOS platform in 2011, Gameloft may finally get a real competitor in the hardcore space. If not, at least we've started off iOS gaming in 2011 very well indeed.

It's probably an extra suit or weapon skin of some sort. Since it already tells you you got a free node for DS2, the secret unlockable will be worth more than that, I think. Man, combined with my DS1 save, my ignition save, and the collectors edition, I'm going to be decked out when I start up the game! I can't wait!

They distorted his voice (on the rig) so no one would recognize him..

Just finished Chapter 3. Pretty intense so far, and scary  Love it. Two and a half hours until the console game. More excitement coming my way.

Finally done downloading. Now to finish all my work, shower, and chat with the gf on the phone. Hopefully I'll be playing this shit by 1:30 :]. Can't freaking wait. Impressions sound overwhelmingly positive right now, heheh.

Dang, I never played the original dead space and I have a pretty low tolerance for horror, but I decided to pick it up and since everyone said it was awesome with headphones in the dark that's exactly what I did, I've only played about 15 minutes so far but dang does this thing do the whole horror atmphosphere really well, and the controls work great. The enemies haven't scared me a whole ton but what really got me was when I was walking down a corrider that came to a T up ahead I turned to look down one of the halls and suddenly I see something drop from the ceiling out of the corner of my eye, I jumped then turned and saw it was a body:eek::D. This is definitely worth the $7 dollars even though I'll only be able to play it in spurts :D

All I'm saying is this... Gameloft is watching this title VERY closely. EA couldn't have opened 2011 up with a more impressive title in all areas (well except controls and maybe even combat) than this game.

Yeah but the quality of the voice actor is still apparent even though the voice is purposely distorted. He just isn't very good. No big deal, just poorly done

I played for about 45 minutes and highly recommend the game. I was very impressed. Don't listen to all the complainers the controls work fine (not great but fine), combat seems very fun so far, graphics are amazing, sound is one of the best I've heard on the ipod. I've still got quite a bit to play but this could very easily be the best game on the app store.

    I have the iPad version.

The visuals are really, really well done. Everything from the textures and lighting down to the way in which vandal moves just ooze quality and polish.

The sound design is stellar as well.

There's just so much about this iOS title that impresses on a number of levels. Even the title screen is well put together.

If more iOS titles could carry this banner toward quality, maybe people wouldn't mind paying more than a meager 99cents for games. If more titles like this are coming, they'll definitely be within this price range. I'm down for that.

    Just hit chapter 2...

Couldn't imagine playing this on a smaller device than the iPad - it's really engrossing at this screen size.

The controls are definitely a non issue.

It takes a bit of getting used to, but TA's negatives remind me of the Tomb Raider review (which I didn't agree with)

    My Review

I have read the review that was posted just a while ago on the homepage. The review was great but i felt like they could have gone into more detail about the game and graphics instead of talking about controls and some other small things that flaws the game. So anyways here's my review, it will be more from a technical stand-point. Feel feel to comment as my opinion will differ from yours.

In Dead Space Mobile you play as an engineer, codenamed: Vandal. You start off in what seems like the maintenance room of the sprawl and the chuch of unitology instructs you to sabatoge some electrical panels which throws the Sprawl into chaos and necromophs are released. After realizing what you've done you fight to escape the sector and try to contain the necormorph infection.

Dead Space Mobile is a great game, players of the original dead space will instantly recognized the controls. Almost Everything from the first game is included in this game, kinesis, stasis, the glowing line that always seem to know where you want to go. The graphics are well...dead space, everything is dark, foggy, with the exception of a few well lit areas which will suddenly go dark in an instant and be crawling with necromorphs seconds later. The game has from what i think is dynamic lighting instead of real time lighting like on the console, althought it doesn't make much of a difference it would be nice to have it considering fourth generation devices could support it given the extra power in the A4. Overall the graphics are very detailed, dark and accurate to the franchise. The sounds in this game is top notch and the voice acting feels real (if only gameloft could get this right ;D). When the voice acting and sound feels real the characters feel real and you feel more attached to the game. Honestly I haven't played the game in a dark room with headphones on, maybe i'm scared to but i might later on, once i get more familiar with the game (and also my mid-term exam is in a few days and i need my goddamn sleep). A lot of people also have been asking about the scare factor, while the game does capture the essence of the dead space franchise, i feel as though you can predict when something's gonna pop up. For example a big flaw that i consider is the quarantine part of the game. Because of the quarantine you KNOW necromorphs are coming, in the early chapters of the game quarantines are frequent and really takes away the scare factor if a giant red light would set off everytime a wave of necromorphs are approaching, where as instead necromorphs just randomly popping out of airvents when you enter a room and you look back to realize there's a horde of monsters ready to rape your face and you shit enought bricks to built schools in Africa. Also i found the random necromorph running into airvents really freaky, and i would always lose a few bullets teying to shoot it, and the random bodies being dropped or dragged into airvents by necromorphs really creeps me out. The game also includes the occasional hallucination which really mind****s me (in one hallucination you get to play as a slasher for a few seconds). They controls from my point of view is perfect BUT i must mention i am a seasoned FPS on the iphone playing games like N.O.V.A, N.O.V.A 2, C.O.D Zombies, MC:S, MC:BP and Eliminate. I am really hardcore at shooters and nothing feels better than pumping lead into your enemies. While the controls are different in dead space and will initially take some getting used to i found myself killing necromorphs with 3 plasma cutter shots in 2 seconds flat by the 5th chapter. The controls are pretty standard for a shooter: left side to move, right side to shoot, etc. The only difference in dead space is the trademarked minimal HUD we have comed to love, with this it can make reloading and stasising a little awkward for beginners, tapping the ammo indicator to reload and stasis energy meter to stasis, which is very different from what N.O.V.A's controls are like having dedicated buttons on the side for you. But controls are very fluid and you will pick it up quickly if not well maybe shooters just aren't for you maybe. Also a quick tip if your're playing on an iphone/ipod and is bothered by the little screen real estate to to use only the bottom left/right corners to play, like me this way it's easy to tap the reload and stasis module and leaves you with 90% of the screen thumb free :)!

    Score:
    Graphic: 4.5/5
    Plot: 4/5
    Gameplay: 4.5/5
    Sound: 5/5
    Overall: 18.5/20

This game is a must get and totally worth more than what you are paying. Fans of Dead Space and even first timers to tbe franchise will love it.

Does anyone know how to clear this (excuse the pun) MASSIVE hurdle?

I'm not in the end but if this is the guy that charges at you and wraps himself like a turtle after taking a bunch of hits, then shoot the back (or yellow area)-- experience from Dead Space console-- only a guess since I haven't gotten to the end.

    EDIT: @orinationx2,
I have no clue :p I have to see it to know.

It's kind of sort of like a huge creature supported by two pillars, and it uses its tongue to lash out and hit you. The problem is, there doesn't seem to be any effect just hitting him, and you have VERY limited ammo at that point.

EDIT: I beat him, finally...it may seem like the most obvious option is to shoot into its mouth. DO NOT DO THIS. Look for the yellow, pulsing spots that appear on its body at certain key-points (such as when he readies his tongue for a lash) and you can take him down fairly quickly. AMMO IS LIMITED AT THIS POINT, I STRESS THIS, so aim your shots well.

    Holy...shit.

I did it. I beat the game, and the ending...was such a gigantic mind-****. To all of you complaining about the voice, you will find out that there is a catch to it. Needless to say Vandal's fate isn't too bright, but DAMN...it really caught me by surprise. I think the last time I was this shocked by the ending of a video game was sometime back in the 16-bit era...if I say what, I would spoil the ending.
