a). It's a rumor, and it's not clear wich it will be. I guess it would be logical to say that it will most definetly not be the 8 core one.
Yes. I meant that the GPU comes in an 8 core version, not that the iPhone will have it. But the iPhone will definitely have the at least one version of it, because a driver bundle for it was found in iOS 4.3.
The battery is rumored to last only 4-5 hrs. Sad. Only slightly better than 3DS. Will still buy it anyway
Around 4 hours seems to be the industry standard. If I play Real Racing 2 on my iPhone 4, the battery also is empty after arround 4-5 hours, more towards 5 hours (Only with non graphic whore apps iPhone gets over 6 hours)
The battery is really the only thing giving me pause at the moment. Apparently Sony is taking Apple's lead, and making it so that you can't replace the NGP's battery. It's not a dealbreaker for me -- I don't mind that with my iPod or iPhone, so it hopefully won't be an issue with this -- but it's the one thing I'm a little iffy on. Actually, there's one other thing: the rear touch input. It's probably just something that you need to experience firsthand to totally get, but at this point it just seems weird. In any case, I can't wait for it to be released...unless the price is ridiculous (always a possibility, since this is Sony), I'm buying it the day it comes out.
Just watched the video on Uncharted NGP. The iDevice just got dusted, big time. Not even the Unreal Engine running on the iDevice can compete with that. Yeah, it ain't even close. The debate, in terms of graphics, is over. The iPhone and the 3DS have lost. We ain't going to see this thread develop into an "iDevice has better graphics" flame war, like with what happened in the 3DS thread. The only portable device capable of producing better graphics then this would be a laptop. A very expensive, high-end laptop. It's not the tech, so much as how much developers are willing to invest in the pursuit of maximizing the potential of said tech. Even if the iPhone 5 produces similiar tech, Sony will still have it beaten, because companies like Rockstar and Activision are likely willing to pour millions upon millions into NGP development. These same companies would never pour that kind of money into iOS development.
Kinda have to agree with this, especially the last sentiment. I mean Gameloft and the like are trying their hardest to bring us games that said developers won't bring, but it can never amount to the real deal here. And in this sense, NGP has it beat. Still though, I will often game on my iPod lol.
Agree with you. I'm getting it, as long as Sony doesn't go insane with the pricing. 4 hours of battery life is amazing! That's how the 3DS gets! And this Sony! And it has PS3 level graphics for Uncharted! Tough call: Nintendogs for 4 hours or Uncharted for 4 hours... Think of all the inputs they have to account for. The analog sticks, RB and LB button, the arrow pad, the A-B pad thingy, gyroscope, microphone, two touchscreens. That doesn't even count graphics. 4 hours is amazing
It's definitely something of a standard, but let's face it, it's a terrible standard. We really need a breakthrough in battery technology to double or even triple the lifespan of this stuff, otherwise we're only looking at a few years before the hardware is too powerful to hold a charge for ten minutes.
Would have to check engadget again, but doesn't Apple have a patent for solar panel powered devices? EDIT: Google: http://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2011/01/apple-wins-their-first-solar-powered-patent-for-portables.html
Sounds like a good idea provided it can get enough power that way. I suppose even if it can't we can charge via AC adaptor/USB and then just use solar to prolong the life somewhat.
This thing will have better graphics than even the next gen iDevices, but that doesn't mean I want one. Nor does it mean it will do better in sales than iDevices or the 3DS. Personally, I'll get a 3DS, because the 3D without glasses is pretty cool. And, of course, it will come with the ability to play some truly great Nintendo games on the go, something I simply can't get anywhere else (at least legally). For the rest of my portable needs, I'll stick to Apple. I suspect that once again the market will agree with me and choose Nintendo's handheld and the iDevices over SONY's monster.
I will buy the NGP. Access to all of my PSN titles for PSP as well as those on the way this year means I'll already have a nice library of games to play without bringing along my old psp. Even without that, I am loving the games lineup more for this than the 3DS though I intend to get both. I may not be the core target audience of the 3DS anyway, nor was I for the DS though I have one but not many favorite games with it.
