I don't think it's going out on a limb to say that there is no way that any 3G service, if offered, would be free. What cell phone service provider would allow that? They're doing everything they can to make it service cost more, not less, let alone nothing.
Of course it's not free. I bought a 1200 laptop that has a reciever built-in for a 4g mi-fi service from a company called clear. When I got the laptop home, the signal was activated, but internet access was blocked unless you signed up for it. In this case, it was $45 a month. Same deal here. They can add 3g capability, but there will be a monthly service fee attached to keeping it activated. Anyone who pays for that service is an idiot. Do a google search, either for "mi-fi," or "mobile hotspot," then tell sony to kiss your ass when it comes to whatever stupid 3g scheme they concoct. Many of us are already paying for 3g on our phones. 3g Data is $30 a month, if unlimited. It's another $15 to tether. It's $10 a gig if you can't get unlimited. 1 mobile hotspot can take care of everything, including online service for your psp2 and your 3ds and your laptop and your ipod touch and your iphone.
On this subject of 3G, I wish iPod touches would get it. I would pay for it like for an iPad. And no, I don't want an iPhone. lol *runs back to PSP2 discussion*
It would be Sony providing it, the same way Amazon is paying the bill to the provider of the Kindle's free 3G. But yeah, too much data. It'd cost them infinitely more than Amazon does just to let people download a book for 60 seconds.
I think the 3G will be optional, like the iPad. It'd be a death sentence if it was required. But some people might pay to always have the internet with them on it. I wouldn't want to pay for 3G though, unless it had some very sweet online features. My only concern with the PSP2 is the battery life though. It needs to be good.
I just have to remind you that there is only 1 hockey game that has ever been released for the PSP. 1 version of NHL from EA, and no versions from 2K sports. That in somewhere around 6 years. Don't hold your breath.
Just found out it's at 1 AM ET. I would totally stay up if I didn't just take a night time cold and flu pill. Oops
I forgot about those Gretzky games because, frankly, they were utterly forgettable. Still, there hasnt been a hockey game released on the PSP in four years. All of the other sports continue to recieve annual PSP versions, even though the PSP has long since been in a state of a decline as a whole. Basketball, baseball, football, golf, soccer, MMA. Even wrestling. Every year, they get newly updated. Hockey, However, has pretty much been abandoned by this format.
By the way, the PSP2 is supposed to be similar to the iPhone 5, in terms of processing power. Except the PSP2 will have 4 cores, while the iPhone 5 will have 2 cores. It's no so much the power but rather what devs who have resources enough to pour millions into game development can do with it. That's the real difference between the PSP2 and the next generation of iDevice. Software resources.
Ha, well that's true, but that doesn't mean we should deny their existence And in all honesty, I would rather hold my breath for an NHL game for PSP2 than an iOS hockey game with good controls. I actually still prefer NHL 07 over the hockey games for iOS devices.
Anyone else following the press conference? The PSP2 (NGP?) sounds amazing! 5 inch OLED screen, two thumb sticks (actual, PS#-esque sticks, not just nubs!), front and back touch screens, a camera, 3G and wifi, a Sixaxis tilt capability...and the games. Oh, the games: Uncharted, Resistance, LBP, Killzone...
This is destroying 3DS in my opinion. If only they were coming out the same time... Still... it's amazing. I called it! I said if they showed Uncharted on it at reveal it would be a hit. Now give us a price!
It does look a lot better than I imagined formwise I was worried they would do some silly unusable design like the Go! it looks like an improved PSP and just as functional. I think I have to have one although I've yet to see any video just screenshots of the device itself.
How long until the kids show up to compare the graphics of that Uncharted game with "Shadow Guardian"
