Like i said, experiences differ. I just go by my own, and friends of mine's. We all love the PS3, but we don't play together because we can do it easier on the 360 hahaha.

I plan on getting MW2 for the 360. Either system, it's going to kick ass. I got BF1943 on the PS3 though, and that rocks. ahahahah

You know that little "all in good fun" war between you and I that's been going down lately?

I call a truce because of that part in bold. I agree with it almost 100%.

Almost because it should be "...nothing more than a slightly interactive bad movie".

I get a lot of flak from MGS fanboys. I like the gameplay in that series...but there's so little of it. The gameplay seems to serve a respite from non-interactive cinemas rather than the other way around. And for a game series which is heralded as the pinnacle of video game storytelling, I must ask: Why am I watching most of the time rather than doing/experiencing first hand? It's an interactive medium, no? Why so much non-interactivity? Why is a series heralded for storytelling not telling it's story in a manner that uses the very strength of the medium?

For story in video game done right in an action/stealth game look toward Splinter Cell Conviction, which will apparently NOT be on PS3.

Was planning on getting a PS3 for my birthday in October, after playing inFamous, I couldn't resist. Now with the new Wolfenstein out (well, nearly out here in England), and the PS3 Slim looming, I honestly can't wait.

If it's one of the original run PS3s, with hardware PS2 backwards compatibility, I'd consider taking it off of your hands for a reasonable price.

BTW, the only games that would make me buy a PS3, rather than just playing those owned by friends (that's what friends are for :D) are:

Heavy Rain - I LOVE Quantic Dream's nu school adventure games Indigo Prophecy and Omikron: The Nomad Soul...Heavy Rain looks to take that quality up several notches.

Yakuza 3 - No, it isn't Shenmue, it's not even in the same genre, but the Yakuza series are some pretty fun beat 'em up/RPG hybrid games. I'm playing the 2nd game on PS2 right now, and I feel that when I finish I'll want more Yakuza action.

God of War 3 - it's God of War...do I need to state anything else?

Gran Turismo 5 - This game, btw, is Sony's system selling franchise. When GT5 hits, we'll see a sizable increase in sales, particularly in Europe where GT has sold Sony hardware since PSone.

    But, most of all:

The Last Guardian - Team ICO's two previous games on PS2, ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, where two of the best games of the entire last generation of home consoles. Just really stellar games, and this one looks to have that same magic.

Those are the games that would make me personally shell out for my own PS3 and stop free loading on my friends' (but, again, that's what friends are for :D).

Still, IMHO...I don't think those upcoming games, even with Gran Turismo and even with the price drop will be enough against 360 and Wii. The lead that MS has is too great, and shows no signs of slowing down (iirc, 360 sales have increased month to month, and Sony has never passed over the initial 5-6 million unit lead 360 enjoyed when it released first). The lead that Nintendo has with Wii is downright insurmountable, IMHO (by far the biggest surprise this gen for a lot of people was how the sales played themselves out).

God help Sony if Apple ever makes a new AppleTV with an architectural base similar to iPhone/touch (ARM CPU, PowerVR GPU) and therefore a similar SDK, and as open to boot. Not saying Apple would beat Sony...but it would be another competitor/headache that Sony can ill afford.

to be honest i dont feel ill ever NEED a ps3, my xbox 360 does the job and it costs less, plus u cant argue that halo is not awesome because really its the grandaddy of fps and it still tops pretty much everything else, kz2 and cod are a close second. and luckily theres 2 more halo games coming out, one in september, and one next year...when im bored of those i might consider buying a ps3 cuz by then itll probably cost like 200 bucks

I won't trash on anyone that doesn't like it. I know a ton of people who hate MGS games because there is practically more watching than actual playing.

MGS 4 wasn't even supposed to be made, so for a huge MGS fan like myself, this was a huge f*cking deal. All it did was pretty much wrap up everything (mostly) that we wanted to know and provide some gnarly end-game nostalgia (Shadow Moses anyone? *sighs*). So most people who just stepped into the MGS series with MGS4 will most likely be disappointed... greatly.

It is pretty much just an interactive movie. The previous ones were pretty much the same, but that is fine. It provides a unique experience that seperates itself from all the other Stealth/Action games.

I will agree with the fact that Splinter Cell series is over all probably the best Stealth/Action game as a whole, but it's the MGS story in general that drives it straight into my heart. Not to mention gameplay that over the years has just gotten even more accessable and tighter.

Call me a "Fanboy" or whatever, MGS for life. hahahaha

Wow.... Halo the grand-daddy of FPS games? What are you? 10 years old?

You are the pinacle of why people hate 360 "Fanboys" (Or all "Fanboys" in general) hahaha

I'm not even alluding to just the stealth/action gameplay. TBQH, I actually enjoy the gameplay in MGS moreso than Splinter Cell. It's...more intuitive. Not dumbed down as some say, just more...I dunno...pick up and play. A lot of the time in Splinter Cell I find myself wrestling with controls...at least in the early SC games. Animation wasn't as smooth, etc. There was...I dunno...lag in the control that I didn't feel with any of the MGS games.

Regardless, I'm speaking storytelling. The new SC game tells it's story using the strengths of the medium which MGS, for the most part, doesn't.

Example: If you've ever seen the bathroom interrogation sequence from E3, as Sam chokes out the character being "interrogated", and the character starts spilling info, the actual info is conveyed during gameplay. It isn't conveyed by spoken dialogue only, or a a simple non-interactive cutscene, but rather the info being spilled is shown in a sort of picture-in-picture projected onto the walls of the bathroom (super imposed onto the background)...and all the while you, the player/character (as Sam) have to keep wrestling/fighting/choking the character being interrogated. That's the sort of thing that should be done more in games, but most developers fall back on non-interactive cutscenes.

Nah. Fanboys are those that argue against anyone taking an opposite stance altogether. They don't "hear the other side out". You are not that type of person. You're an MGS fan, but not a fanboy. I'm an MGS fan too...but probably not as much as you. I like Kojima's older games more (particularly his adventure game Snatcher...AWESOME adventure game, btw).

Spiffy although we've had a moment or two in the past, the fact that you recognize ICO and SOTC, speaks volumes of your credibility. These games are ART!! They really are, and Last guardian looks to be nothing less. Shame that the games are mostly reserved for those who are generally jaded with todays games. Cause the rest are really missing out.

Yeah that was my main problem with the splinter cell games. The game play is great, but untill more recently, the games controls always seemed awry, if not only for a few types of moves/actions, etc.

The first 2 MGS games had interesting controls. I mean they were in no way perfect and definitely got much better with MGS3 and perfected in 4. I love them the most and they are really easy to use. But yeah I will agree that if it had more interactive scenes (Such as Sam's interrogative techniques ;)) it would be superior, and more interesting for more players.

It really does take a different kind of person to fully enjoy MGS games. that's for sure. One thing I always hated about MGS4 is that the scenes are only even "Semi" interactive (Like pressing the R1 button to have "Memory Flashbacks"). Sometimes I'll be hittin a bong and trying to watch the movie and I have to drop the lighter and everything to try and press the button in time to catch the memory screenies ahahahah. I would have rather is been all or nothing, cause not every cutscene had them. So it was a guessing game when they came up, so you pretty much always had to hold the controller, even though you may not be waiting for anything to press. >.>

And yeah I really don't consider myself a "Fanboy" of anything. I am a "Gamer" lmao. I have all systems and love to play games on them all the same. I like certain aspects of certain systems much more, but yeah... it's hard to argue with em ahahah they are like Republicans! ahahahahaha jk ;)

you forgot demon's souls and white knight chronicles :D 2 JRPGs that completely obliterate any other RPG in exsistance, and the best part, they're exclusive. all the 360 is getting is watered-down, white washed RPG games.

Yeah I am sick of the lack of RPG games as a whole for the latest gen consoles. I mean wtf? Nothing is good coming out. There are only a handful of mundane ass games coming out for anything. Tales of Vesperia, Whiteknight Chrons, and Sacred 2 are a few... but even those are... well while good we need more. Bottom line. hahahah I never got to play Demon Souls though.I never even see it around retail stores. I will have to look into the interwebz.

Very few video games, particularly outside of the adventure genre, actually tugged at my emotions like those two. I mean...that last section with Wander in SotC, where the player is being sucked into the abyss, and you can try to reach the girl...heartbreaking.

    No, I didn't.

I don't particularly enjoy JRPGs outside of a chosen few (and most are Sega RPGs, like the old Phantasy Star series, and my favorite JRPG last gen, Skies of Arcadia).

    SRPGs, though, I like...a lot.

Which is why Valkyria Chronicles would be listed above those two for me personally. And that game is only on PS3.
