Hey guys, I know there are plenty of PS3 questions on here, but not one thread where we can all put our questions. I have a couple to start it off- First, can I change my gamer name on my account? I set mine up when I was like... 12 and first got a psp and don't wanna be stuck as huss101 forever. Second, I was told there was a software patch so that you can play PS2 games on the PS3 slim. Where's it at? And last, what's the must have game on the PS network? Fat Princess or pixel junk or whipeoutHD or something else? Thanks for your help and I'll try to help you guys out too.
I think something like the forums at psu.com would be able to help you better but I'll take a guess (not sure if my answers are correct)... First, can I change my gamer name on my account? I'm not sure, I don't think so. If you can you would do it in User Settings or something but if you don't see it there, it's not doable. But you can create a new gamer name very easily and it's completely free to do. Second, I was told there was a software patch so that you can play PS2 games on the PS3 slim. Where's it at? There is no such patch, it's not a software issue. They actually shrunk down the PS2's emotion engine graphics card chip and stuck it inside the early backward compatible models. But the chips was adding too much to the cost so Sony later took it out of all the models and dropped the price on the PS3. If you want backwards comptability, buy used one of the older backwards compatible models of the PS3. And last, what's the must have game on the PS network? Fat Princess or pixel junk or whipeoutHD or something else? I hear Fat Princess is NOT a good game. Don't get it. But the others are very good. If you like futuristic racing games, Wipeout HD is awesome and looks GORGEOUS. If you like tower defense games, Pixel Junk Monster is probably the best TD game I've ever played. If you like old school 2D shooters, Pixel Junk Shooter is amazing. If you like platformer/puzzlers,Braid is increbile If you like RTS games and want a downloadable one, the standable "Commander's Challenge" for Red Alert 3 is incredibly good. There's actually craptons of great downloadable games, and I have yet to try many of them.
I don't know about the other questions, but get 'Battlefield 1942'. It is a very fun online multiplayer FPS/Action game. You can download the trial for free and then buy it. It's on sale right now for £6 something. It goes back up to it's full price tomorrow, so you should get it today
Ah there you go, trying to talk facts again! Y'know for a guy with the name wikoogle you could sure do with some better researching. Anyway, yes the best PS2 emulation came with the Emotion engine hardware, but it's still quite possible to do with software, and after the hardware was removed they did in fact sell PS3 consoles with a software emulator of the engine installed. However this is no longer supplied or supported and to be honest it wasn't incredibly reliable in the first place. I'm sure it's possible people have modded their consoles to get it working again, but currently there is no legit method of playing PS2 games on a PS3. Also... no, there is no way to change your name. The only solution is a new account. As for PSN games, Fat Princess is incredibly popular and has a thriving community. Battlefield 1943 kinda drooped a little after the release of MW2 but it's still a fun game and you'll still find matches pretty easily. Both of those games are online only however. Bionic Commando rearmed is an amazing remake of a NES classic. PixelJunk Shooter is pretty awesome with all it's liquid physics and combination of puzzle and action gameplay, but it's kinda short... there will be an expansion at some point but it most likely won't be free. If you like billiards/pool... Hustle Kings is the best pool game I've ever played, at about 1/6 the cost of competing retail pool games. Looks beautiful too. Marvel vs Capcom 2 is a classic... if you've played the game before you'll already know it's for you, if not it might be kinda hard to get into. Far more chaotic than something like Street Fighter. If you prefer SF there's always Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Flower and Noby Noby Boy are closer to art than they are to games, but both are an enjoyable experience, if you're looking for something new and unique check them out. Then for the full-budget games, Wipeout HD is nice to look at, but not the easiest game on the store. Burnout Paradise is probably one of the best racing games I've ever played. Tons of modes, vehicles, speed, ramps, destruction, chaos, 8-player online, expansions (although one of the updates was a downgrade in my opinion). Gran Turismo 5 Prologue pretty much speaks for itself but if you're interested I'd recommend holding off for the full game. There are a bunch of others but... this list is getting long and those are fine to start off with. I'm currently more interested in the PSOne Classics myself... if you ever played them in the past you'll already know what you want from there.
Haha thanks guys. Dang the guys at Gamestop and BestBuy! I asked three different workers if I'd be able to play PS2 games on my slim and all three said there was a software patch online that allowed that... Oh well, I guess I'll just play more Uncharted, Assassins Creed, Modern Warfare, Little Big Planet, Brothers In Arms, Etc. I'm thinkin I'll download the WipeoutHD bundle for 22 bucks with the first and the Fury Expansion. I like Wipeout on my PsP. I really hope they make a PS3 Patapon. That'd be epic in my game room. Epic. Haha crap... I went and made another acount, and Hitch was used by a kid with 3 games, hasn't played in a few months. Hitch100 was taken by a kid who played fifa 08 (or something) once. PSN Id is now Hitch1000
Best PSN gaem: PixelJunk (anything) or Fat Princess. What's up with all the hate on FP? I liked it. Especially since it plays "Baby Got Back" every time you win. "I like...", well you know how it goes
