One more thing about promotion... I have on my TODO list to make a gameplay video of ActionChess and put it on youtube or vimeo or something. I'm actually going to try and do that tonight. I've heard it's a big deciding factor for a lot of people who spend the time to research whether they want a game or not. I'm not actually sure if it'll help sales, but it should be fairly easy, so I really should have done it weeks ago. I'm also in the process of writing a press release. I should start a new thread for this, but I'd really love to see other people's press releases to compare. I've tried to google for them, and get a bunch of unrelated stuff. So anyone who wouldn't mind sharing theirs in some way I'd be super appreciative. (PS, I just stalked RovioMobile, (by looking at his previous posts) and his game is [app]Totomi[/app]. I just bought it to check out later.)
I read recently (i can't find where anymore) that unless you have atleast 20 reviews about your app in itunes in a given countries app store then your chance of being ranked well is slim. I think they even said if you can't get 20 user reviews then you might aswell not even bother trying to promote the game else where. I never realized before that the user reviews were part of the algorithm apple used to rank games before. Do any you know if there is any truth in what i've read about the importance of reviews?
I found the article about the 20 reviews: http://eliainsider.com/2009/04/15/lessons-learned-one-month-in-the-iphone-appstore/
The articles followed on from those links talk about the number 20 being a psycological one influencing potential customers, not something in Apple's algorithms. But still, inetersting read - thanks!
