That's got to be the strangest move yet. I can't think of a single reason to differentiate between the two. All it does is turn promo giveaways into a gamble with devs hoping users choose to redeem the code on their PC/Mac
I entirely agree. This policy won't change anything regarding fake reviews. But this means another slap in the face for indie developers. Getting attention for a newly published game without having a million-dollar-advertising budget was hard enough already on the App Store. Being an indie developer myself, I would consider Apple's latest move as a death sentence for many indie games in the future. Well, there are other mobile platforms out there ... niebau Developer of Knighturn and Swords & Earrings
I'm so sorry to revive this thread from its deep slumber but I just need to ask if this is still the case today. So we still can't drop a review if you got the app through a promo code from the developer? Thanks in advance!
Thank you very much for answering my question. Stretching my luck here but by any chance do you have a link of any recent article with that info on it with you? I tried googling it and the articles I found were 2 years old. It's fine if you don't have it. And, thanks again.
Sorry I don't, I just know from posts here and when I have tried to review games I've gotten via code I've not been able to. You can't delete the promo version and buy the app either as it will only let you redownload for free.
