I never expected it to be anything like the console versions at all, what I did expect however was fluidity and decent gameplay, it was supposed to be the successor to NOVA and was supposed to GL's new flagship game but after the immense hype it fell utterly short of the expectations set by me and others.
I would be worried about framerate on older devices (particularly iPhone 3G and 1st gen iPod Touches). Frankly, those devices are not going to keep up with games that push the boundaries of the platform. It's the way it goes with technology. As to the video, I would say that there were a good 3 or 4 scenes that showed actual gameplay, as well as some gameplay-cutscenes (that is, moments where control pauses to show a player move within context). All of that footage is from the iPhone version; you can tell from the textures and use of shadow.
Also to note is that, from what I noticed, the actual gameplay is always better then it looks from video and pictures. I noticed it with quiete a few gameloft games. And like the other guys were saying, obviously those with an iPhone/iPod touch lower then 3rd gen are gonna experience some lagginess. That's why apple isn't supporting the iPhone 3G anymore, or anything lower. Times are changing.
Everyone I know scc wasn't all we expected but I think we expected to much of course being it was console loved Sam fisher ,but we have to realize this is just the begining in the iPhone gaming revolution did we really think this was going to be perfect or really above average ,basically my logic is this the begining always has gliches ,tweaks, and issues I'm sure these problems are cause of the idevice ability to handle framerate speed, and a need for a better gigahtz processer and from what I've heard the new iPhone 4g has fixed those issues and then games will get the full polish and design they deserve it's all about strategy, marketing, and money they don't want to put full hard work into a game when the device can't fully handle it yet it would just be a waste of time and money understand ,anyway I'm just glad to see console games on a mobile idevice and it can only get better look how long the AppStore has been up and such fast progress I can't wait for pop ww next week and upcoming games being ported or being worked on(call of duty black ops,tekken6,devil may cry, marvel vs capcom) do u Hear these names I can't wait
I love how the iPhone/iPod gaming is advancing, it seems like more and more 3d games are coming out. it's kinda exciting.
Yeah as usual iPhone games have good and crisp textures but no shadow and lighting effects like in PSP. It's a trade-off I suppose, as all devices pre-3GS can't handle it yet. I wish they just went all out and make it look as great as possible for 3GS owners. I don't have a 3GS but want to see how great it'd look like.
One thing to keep in mind is that the PSP can't really do dynamic shadows either -- developers have just figured out how to fake them better than on the iDevice. Notice the little circle shadows under the prince in this Revelations gameplay video (starting around :40). That's the kind of thing we usually see from Gameloft iPhone games; the rest is just well placed textures, which sometimes don't fit realistically with the lighting in the environment (see :54 on the video, when the prince is climbing up the steps). I think ultimately it's a matter of budget, not of accommodating older devices.
Yeah but overall we see better lighting effects on PSP games, eg. God of War. It looks amazing in the caves with those torches and the characters become partly illuminated. Also look at Ridge Racer and how the cars are really affected by the lights, shadows and reflections. Only Ridge Racer on iPhone has real reflection and even the great Real Racing doesn't have it. In a funny sort of way, the cars in NFSU are more affected by its surrounding lights (become green when the lighting is green, yellow when the lighting is yellow) compared to NFSS. Yes NFSS has more detailed environments, but I'm strictly talking about the lighting. The cars in NFSS are almost unaffected by the surrounding lighting 'mood'. That makes sense.
Has this been posted here yet? From Pocket Gamer: Thoughts? Edit: Maybe it has been posted. If so, sorry
they shouldnt be worried about loss of sales, the retro version is like a dollar. and i think most people would choose the full 3D ps2 port over a decade (longer?) old game hope its not delayed
I think this article was in congunction with the announcment that the release dat would be June third. Make more sence anyway, I could be wrong..
I don't think so though, because PoP Retro was just released yesterday, while the June 3rd release date was announced before that.
dont forget though that Gameloft is Ubisofts sister company. They basically know everything about eachother. So im sure Gameloft knew about Prince of Persia Retro sometime ago before the release of it.
Yes I did. Especially when you had games like NOVA and Modern combat that really hit the mark. Were not talking about a small dev here with limited resources. Were talking about gameloft. Im very disappointed on what they did to splinter cell and theres really no excuses. Dont get me wrong, its a decent game but usually a company is supposed to move forward over time, not backwards.
The PS2 game is closer to 5 years old while POP Retro is more like 20, but don't underestimate it I had tons of fun with the original to this day. I still like the original and the Sands of time trilogy but don't think that just because one is older it can't stand up to the newer games. By the way I think how much people will enjoy Warrior Within depends on how gameloft does with the controlls and camera, in my experience with them its been a hit or a miss in controls.
