There's been some controversy over the price of the PSP 2 (Example, Gamestop estimating $1000). Let me tell you that $1000 (USD), is in fact, insane. Thankfully, the price isn't on their website anymore. After researching the closest official price, I've come up to this site. http://psp.mmgn.com/News/NGP-wont-cost-USD-599 And if you'd like to know the specifications, here's a link right from Sony's website. http://www.playstation.com/psmeeting2011/spec.html Thanks for voting on the poll!
change the poll to "200-299" instead of "200-300" because as it is now, all the even numbers will be split between two options.
I can As far as the pricing is concerned, I seriously cant see sony selling for less than 500 without taking a loss.
But can you imagine people actually buying it if it is priced more than a normal PS3? I don't see that happening...Sony has GOT to aim for below 300 if they want to sell well Then again, Sony is historically known for overpricing their gadgets, so we'll see
hoping for $250. will be a shock to everyone and then i will buy day 1. but it will prolly be $350-$399. $300 is the sweetspot i think. lower than most people's expectations and just higher than the ideal price (for me and from what i've read a lot of others).
I'm guessing $350. They're saying that people will say it makes sense, but that it's affordable. Actually, going by this story, I'm going to guess that it'll be something like $300-350 for a basic one, and $500+ for one with 3G...
$299.99 They will take a loss, by the way, on the hardware, which isn't totally unheard of. The games will sell for 49.99 a piece, and they will rock, and Sony will recooped their hardware losses, provided that they suceed in preventing software piracy.
Well bear in mind the Go! wasn't even as useful or expensive to make as the normal PSP (no UMD drive, smaller screen etc) and they tried to charge almost as much as a PS3 when they launched it although this definetely contributed to the Go!s failure maybe Sony have learned I kind of doubt it though. Based on the above I've a feeling the price might shock everyone in UK money I'm expecting probably £300 for any lower end versions so I guess in a $ amount that's probably pretty close to $500. My guess is between the $400-$500 hopefully bundled with a launch game or two. Now I spent that amount on my Ipod 64gb which isn't half as advanced so I might be underestimating. I think it's very safe to say Sony will charge what they can get away with especially at launch although I expect the price will lower about 6 months in. That suits me as I like to wait and see if a device has any major issues before purchasing anyway. Really can't wait to get my hands on one though I may cave and buy one at launch it almost looks like Sony have made my ideal device.
They won't price it higher than the PS3 is already priced, or a lot higher than the 3DS. $249 or $299 is the best bet. Plus that's not far off from the iPods and iPhones
5 dollar footlongs in Subway .. I would really like it in the $250-300 range, but they're releasing one with a 3G connection, and one without it. Like the iPad, I think the one that has 3G will be priced at around $320-380
Perhaps your mind has been warped by Apple's overpricing and now you genuinely believe the technology costs that much?
It doesn't? Or are you forgetting that all the $$ Sony spent on R&D + the (future) marketing costs will also have to be included in to calculate the real cost? As far as apple overpricing stuff, let's not say they are overpriced based on the UK prices only.
ImNoSuperMan has a fair point. See it better explained here: http://daringfireball.net/2010/11/apples_pricing_advantage The iPad is aggresively priced for example. The difference on the PSP2 might be, that Sony will price it that they take a loss in the beginning like on the PS3, but due to lower hardware costs of the Flash drives and ARM chips in comparisson to 2007, and no optical drive, price of the PSP2 might be 300-350?
