So starting today through Aug. 6, you can register for early access to Pottermore.
    http://www.pottermore.com/

They take limited people each day and then close for the day when they get enough so if you want in, you have to be quick. I got in easily though so I don't think it's that hard. Plus you have 7 chances (because there are 7 days left)

The first clue is out. And atm, registrations are still open if you anyone wants to sign up.

I'm pretty excited to see what this all is about. I can't wait!

If anyone wants the answer to the first clue its:
245 since the Emporium sign lists 5 breeds of owl and 5 times 49 is 245.

EDIT: Whoa apparently, it's all closed for the day. Took about 1 hour so I guess it is kinda difficult to get in.

Isn't this just the books online because Rowling want's a cash boost it all seems a bit overhyped and why bother to me. I think anyone who wanted to read them has by now.

I've no will to reread them online while paying a premium especially in a web browser that's just ridiculous. I think the less people bother with this the more chance she might actually write a new book.

    Just my opinion.

Is that really what it is? I thought nobody had a clue yet... except that one clue up there.

If it is, I expect it'll be like how youversion.com handles the bible. Letting people choose their language/version and make and share notes that other users can read and comment on. Highlight passages, allow people to create groups and so on, make the whole thing a social experience.

Not that I'd be a part of it. Harry Potter is bunk.

ya thats what its like. Plus the chapters that she cut from the books will be up there too. Its not just the books online.

also for anyone who wants a very cool, quick way of going through the harry potter books I found this site. I really enjoyed it because you got such a huge range of art styles used and some pictures are from perspectives you wouldnt expect etc. I really enjoyed going through the books like that. Thank god for stumbleupon.

Cool story bro. I on the other hand, like it very much. Again, if you formulated your opinion of HP from the movies, then you're missing out.

I think he's just confused. He has gone into every conversation about potter on here even though he doesn't like it. So either he can't let go of things or secretly he likes it.

Both the books and the movies. The first four books, then the first three movies.

Nope, there are very few threads dedicated to Harry Potter I've participated in. It's far more likely the movies/books have been mentioned in more general topics and I've just been my usual chatty self.

Ya like I said you get into all the potter conversations and go on about how it's been done before and you don't like it. Stop o sensing about it. If you don't like it then cool but why continue to address it. Wouldn't it be better to discuss something you like.

well it's pop culture and sometimes its fun to rag on it. :p

Seriously - I enjoyed the seven books for what they were, decent storytelling. But it wasn't brilliant - especially compared to something like Stephen King's Dark Tower series (complete with the 30 some connecting books). The problem with Harry Potter is that for much of it the setting, themes, and characters remain largely the same and a sudden change in setting near the end of the series isn't enough to relieve that tedium.

Take for instance The Dark Tower series - each book contains multiple new settings with new characters while at the same time keeping characters and events from other books (in and outside the series) relevant to some extent. Not to mention he has no issues breaking into meta and universal themes - and for the most part his characters seem so well drawn and human that even in the most surreal spots it doesn't feel made-up.

But the HP series was a fun read just not something that I'd likely read again. Also I'm not sure where her inspiration for the title Mugwump comes from - but I wonder if she read Naked Lunch:
