What a great thread! Too bad I don't have the after shot or else I'd post Coming from years of C++ I'm still getting used to this iPhone programming (although I have stuff built in Unity).
Unfortunately I dont have any "original" before and after pics of Tesseract. However, I do have pics from my "before iOS 4 enhancements" and after. (Still a work in progress) - The first 3 pics are from the "current" release. No AA, and only a semi-streamlined rendering pass. - The next 2 pics are what happens when you do not properly bind a FSAA buffer. (Oops! )... Cool effect though. - The last 3 pics are from the "soon to be" release. FSAA (look how clean those lines are baby!), and a fully streamlined rendering pass (note the colors seem more vibrant).
Cool thread Bing Bong! the game I'm working on started like this: More recent: I've added more stuff since these screenshots too, will try and dig out some more!
yeah the previous version looks much better and more well-considered. Reminds me of the early PC version of Risk.
I hope before and after videos are ok? Here is a prototype for a shoot-em-up game I started in 2007... I'm posting regular development videos in this thread so you can follow the game as it progresses. Great thread - I'm enjoying seeing everyone's progress!
Those screenshots look so good I had to buy this! Are you planning an iPad update? It already looks pretty good on iPad but would be great with high res art and anti-aliasing.
Some really impressive looking games in this thread. And this thread is burning a hole in my pocket. There's something about seeing the evolution of a game that makes me want to buy it
really cool thread idea, I love seeing this kind of stuff. here's some before and after of my little game, also in video form. still pics don't really show how much it's evolved - the graphics didn't improve at all (programmer art, what can i say ) but it got a lot more fun I reckon. [ edit: video of the even older version for the DS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbNVVA6Zc8U ] early version:
Wow, I like Magnetic Shaving Derby! I actually watched the whole video and laughed all the way through. It makes you cringe when the razor goes over the eyeballs. Hehehe
Awesome. Glad it made you laugh. And cringe. That's what it's all about Thanks heaps man! I submitted it about a week ago and it's waiting for review.. so, when Apple get up to it. Scary!
Looking forward to it! If you haven't already, fire an email off to Blake Patterson, I'm guessing he might really like it. Best of luck with your sales
Here's King's Cup HD: Party Edition before... "Hey, we should get an artist." After... We ended up using the first one for a free version.
lol reminds me of the shamwow commercialXD http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7zrly_shamwow-commercial_shortfilms
Xeno Sola had its Anime theme toned down quite a bit over the development process. Before: After: And just for reference, we're going much more realistic for its story-sequel, our current project, Xeno Versa:
Trainyard: Before and After The original design for Trainyard was a lot more playful. I still kinda wish I went this direction instead of the current direction, but I'm happy with what I've got. A weird design decision led to green tracks at one point(just as a test): How the game actually turned out: Old menu designs with awful colours: And the final menu design: Some of you may know that I created Trainyard first in Flash as a prototype, before I made it for the iPhone. I'm gonna let you try out the prototype, but first a couple of instructions... The green buttons in the top left make the trains go(at different speeds) The red button clears all the track The blue button puts the game back into editing mode, if you can't draw for some reason, press the blue button, it'll stop the trains and put you back into editing mode. To draw track, just drag your mouse. If you've never played Trainyard on the iPhone before, this'll probably be pretty confusing without any tutorials. Hold alt(option) and press/drag the mouse to erase Hold shift and click on a square with two tracks on it to switch the active track It'll say "puzzle solved" if you get a red and blue in at the same time, but your goal is to actually merge all the trains into just one red train and one blue train. This is a glitchy prototype build, so don't expect it to be fun or easy to play, heh. Here it is! http://trainyard.ca/share/wip/PaintTrainTest.swf And just for fun, another random artifact of developing Trainyard, a prototype version of the track drawing engine that works with hexes(!) instead of squares. It's super confusing, which is why I never used it. http://trainyard.ca/share/wip/HexGridTest.swf -Matt
